We booked our stay for July 1st and july 2nd back in April. Asked to have the rooms by eachother, they were not but were on same floor. It was a busy week, couldnt be fixed, not a big deal. Ofcourse I ended up in the room by the ice machine rm 222 and of course the review that mentioned the jack hammer sound, well thats exactly what I got. But its not from the ice machine. Every time a room runs the shower the noise starts off and on, i heard it till midnight when I finally fell asleep, not good when I had to get up at 6am to go sight seeing. The resort area has terrible cell phone service, and very few TV channels but we weren't there for that. The resort was clean, many of the workers seemed to be new and didn't really know what was going on. Down in the fun zone social distancing wasn't really a thing. Kids everywhere practically riding bikes into our van. We rented the 4 seater bike and went on the water slide, we wanted to use the pool but you have to get a time reserved and we didnt do that cuz we were busy for most of the day driving around Custer park. We didn't eat at the resort, we tried to stay away from crowds and the smell of horse poo was pretty bad by the stables. We did enjoy petting the horses though. The hot tub in the hotel was open so we went in there for a bit. We enjoyed our stay and hope to be back some day. We will always remember the crazy hail storm during our stay, so will my van.

Stayed in a room on the second floor near the ice machine. It had periodic loud noise episodes, about every 15-20 minutes, like a jack hammer. Asked Front desk and they said they did not here the noise I described. It happened several more times. Went to front desk and again they did not hear it. Said they would call engineering. Engineering never came. That the front desk staff did not hear the noise is absurd. They need to be trained in customer service. I do not like being lied to. Makes me wonder if the manager gave them a script to tell clients who have herd the same noise, to blow them off. Other than that it was a nice place.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the Badlands/Black Hills. The lodge itself is comfortable and well appointed. We had a king room with balcony on the second floor, that was clean and quiet. However, we felt the name to be misleading in that the lodge is not a stand alone resort. It's part of a KOA campground. We were expecting resort amenities such as WI-FI, 2-3 upscale restaurants, etc.. This is truly a destination for families with children, not for adults seeking natural beauty and serenity in the heart of the Badlands. While the lodge advertises WI-FI, it was not operational during our stay, and in fact, our cell phone voice service could not be activated, so our only form of communication was intermittent text messages. The hot tub hours were very limited, the free breakfast selections were below average, and the only restaurant/pub on the property was The Peak, which had limited family-style menus, limited seating and did not take reservations. The lodge should also consider providing directions with its confirmation, as GPS sent us to Palmer Gulch Road in Hill City, which is several miles out of the way. Again the lodge itself is well done, but this is definitely a campground in terms of crowds, food and beverage and activities, and not a 4 or 5-star resort.

I stayed here for 4 nights and had a comfortable room with a king bed looking out on the forest. The bathroom is a bit spartan and could use some enhancements. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is included, but it is quite limited. My room wasn't cleaned as much as it should have been, and I should have said something to the staff, and I am sure they would have addressed it. But we were so busy hiking and exploring I kept forgetting. This is part of a large KOA campground so be prepared for crowds during the summer season. I would definitely return.

We stayed for 5 nights I the lodge. Had a great room right next to the indoor hot tub. my feedback is that if you are going to have an amenity for guests to use make it useable. The hot tub closed at 9 pm. Most guests are just getting back from the days adventures about 8 or 9 so I would recommend keeping the hot tub open until 11 or so so guests can get a chance to relax and use it. Other than that the kids loved the pools (heated) ,water slide, golf and outdoor chess. Good value and I would rate it great value if the hot tub was open longer - the breakfast was lacking however. add some eggs or meat. oh yes and they claim to have wifi but it was never working
