We hunted for the second year in a row with Alex & Mitchell in the mornings before our annual group pheasant hunt near Mina Lake and one of our pheasant hunting pals joined us this year. The Flatland Flyways team once again didn't disappoint as we had tremendous duck hunting and they exceeded expectations. The FF team again treated us like family and for 2019, we'll have a few more of our crew joining us before the pheasant hunts. Just an outstanding bunch of humans with impeccable customer service. If you book a trip with these boys, you will NOT be disappointed!
The experience at Flatland Flyways is incredible. The lodge is beautiful with every amenity you can possibly want and every detail when it comes to hunting has been thought of and addressed. I've been affectionately referring to Flatland Flyways as the "Duck Spa". Flatland Flyways is family ran and the staff is more than accomodating and the definition of professional. They go through great pain to ensure your comfort and enjoyment of your stay and hunt. The guest rooms are spaceous and comfortable and the bathrooms are huge with heated floors. There is a large living room to relax and play pool, watch TV or swap hunting stories. They have an actual gym, not just some treadmill and bands, for when you've hit your daily limit early in the morning. The grounds are gorgeous, with views of the fields and a fire pit where you can watch formations of thousands of waterfowl flying to and from the Wildlife Production Area nearby. There is a trap box 20 feet outside of the house so you can sharpen your skills between hunts. Down the hill from house there is a bermed pistol range with steel targets that's better than most professional ranges I've been to. The food prepared on site is breath taking. Depending on the time of year ingredients are sourced locally and from Maggie's garden. Breakfast is made available before getting up for a hunt and it's amazing. Maggie sent us out to the field with breakfast sandwiches and a thermos of coffee. Their food is great and food aversions and allergies are taken into great consideration. Our post hunt breakfast and dinner have been world class. Alex, Mitchell and Jake are incredibly knowledgeable of the area and they go through great lengths to ensure a hunt is successful. In this area waterfowl hunts are done in dry fields and you don't even have to wade. Decoys spreads are laid out and layout blinds are well camoflauged. You feel guilty showing up and just climbing in the blind with so little effort. They have dogs to retrieve the birds and they're needed to quickly pick up the birds between passes. The guides have one of the best feeder calls I've heard and birds will be called to within 15ft of the blind. Passes of 50 birds, that had me flabbergasted, were considered light passes. The guide staff can clean, bag and tag your birds for you and if your interested there is a local meat processor they know that can turn your birds into an amazing sausage. If you want to mount your bird, just let your guides know and they'll set it aside so it stays beautiful. The experience here has been incredible and I will absolutely be returning.…
Wow, what a place. I don't think I can say enough good things about my three day duck hunting trip to Flatland Flyways. The customer service is exceptional and all the staff are warm and welcoming, just like you are family. The recently built lodge is filled with luxuries, like a gear room with heated floors, and the rooms have very comfortable beds and pillows(makes a big difference!) The hunting was great, almost too great, as now that I'm back home I know I will never see 3,000 ducks landing on my head unless I go back! What an experience! If you have the chance to go on a Duck/Goose hunting trip don't waste your time and money anywhere else.
We have duck hunted here for the past two years and have loved each trip. Meghan and all of the FF staff are amazing and will go out of their way to make sure your trip is a memorable one. Having grown up and being from around Hecla, they have great relationships with all of the farmers and even some of the pheasant guides and can work out a pheasant hunt one afternoon if you'd like. The food is out of this world and will make you forget about the rare slow day in the field. Food has a home cooking feel, however prepared by a gourmet chef but not frilly to lose the hunting camp atmosphere. Accommodations are top notch, with heated floors in the bathrooms.
This is my third time at Flatland Flyways, and it has never disappointed. The guides are top notch and work their tails off to put you on birds. The lodge is hard to beat. It feels as if you are staying in a 5 star all inclusive hotel, but better. The food is also great. Make sure you leave room for desert! I will certainly be back and would give them more stars if I could!
