I wanted to stay at this hotel because I wanted to learn about the history of the building, when it was built and what it was used for from back around 1900 to 1973, what was part of the original building and what was added on. So I figured what better way to learn about it than to stay in it. It is a little confusing and inconvenient to stay at the hotel back inside the casino. You will need to walk through much of the casino and go up a couple elevators. There is no one to ask where the front desk is but there are signs. You can park by the front door when you get there (between the casino entrance and by the parking ramp entrance) and then amble around through the casino until you find it.
The room was nice but warning, this had to be the most inconvenient and confusing hotel I can recall. No apparent "main lobby entrance", so we parked in the alley separating the building from the parking garage to run in and figure out how to check in. This is the entry to the casino, with no sign of a hotel, or anyone to ask directions. Finally another family that pulled up said I had to go clear through the casino to find the elevator that takes you to the third floor hotel. After check in we then go down a hall to another elevator to get to our third floor room, then go down with our parking pass and move the car into the garage. Whew! Grab everything you want from your car, If you forget something could be a 20+ minute round trip back to your room. To be fair, later I did see some signs in the casino pointing to the "Hotel elevator". The room itself was nice and clean and looked out over Deadwood. Close to the "main street" and to Jacob's Brew House which was very good for supper. Would be nice to get some check in directions when booking a stay here. Also disappointed that this Holiday Inn did not include a breakfast.…
My wife and I stayed at the Deadwood Mountain Grand during our vacation to the Black Hills and used this as our home base. We chose this hotel more for the amenities of the property and activity of Deadwood over its distance to attractions throughout the Black Hills. Yes there are places to stay more central to activities throughout the Black Hills like the much smaller Custer or Hill City with less activity, and even Rapid City that has the feel (to me) of any "x,y, or z city" in America. Deadwood has the charm of a western town, yet still with plenty to do in the area. The hotel itself has plenty to offer in its restaurants, shop, and casino. I have read past reviews that talk negatively about the casino and its proximity to the hotel, but it is completely separate from the hotel. It is just a short walk through the casino to get to the hotel. Don't let this sway your decision. Get on the elevator to the hotel and you are transported to a well-appointed, highly rated hotel away from the casino. The front desk staff is extremely helpful in making the best of your stay and they are ready to give any recommendations you might ask for. The rooms are well-appointed and quite clean. One of the greatest amenities of the hotel is parking. You are steps from downtown Deadwood and you will always have a great parking spot at the hotel. For those that day trip into town will find that parking in Deadwood can be difficult. I recommend you book well in advance and request one of the top floor suites for a balcony view of the town. I called the hotel directly and they were able to get me a great rate. When you plan your Black Hills vacation, realize that many of the destinations are a bit of a drive, no matter where you stay. Treat yourself to the Deadwood Mountain Grand when you return from your day of exploring! You'll be glad you did. For any return trip to the Black Hills, I'll be staying here!…
All in all, a pretty fair weekend, except for a couple of troubling things; on our second day, when we returned to the room after being out all day, I noticed a strange “lump” in our bed. When I pulled up the duvet, I found that the bed hadn’t been made, just covered with the duvet! The other bed was rumpled. The keuring still had a used coffee pod in it. I know that they were in the room because there were fresh towels and the trash cans were emptied. Housekeeping is a hard job, I get it, but don’t do deceitful things! And how “sanitized” are the rooms with this type of behavior? And the gentleman at the desk (around 7 p.m.) was as concerned about my complaint as he would have been if I had told him that the price of beans had gone up!!!!
This place was amazing! We had some trouble figuring out where to park and how to access the hotel. I called and the lady that answered was super friendly and helpful. We had to walk through the casino to get to the hotel elevator, but I didn’t mind at all. We got an executive king room and it was amazing. Very spacious and comfy. Everyone was very helpful. And they have two restaurants on site. Easy walk to downtown as well, so excellent location. Would definitely stay here again!
This is a great hotel with s great location, and if you are traveling with your 4 legged friend they will accept them. Your dog gets a bowl, a ball and a cookie upon arrival. Jane and Even were really great in helping us extend our stay. I will definitely will be back again!
We stayed here on our short girls trip in February 2021 and it did not disappoint! From the second we pulled up to the door all the staff was very friendly and helpful, the check in process was smooth, the rooms were clean and comfortable. We ate at the restaurant a couple times and ordered room service every morning. The food was so good! It is within close walking distance to all the bars and casinos downtown, but offers enough here that a person wouldn't need to leave if they didn't want to! We will be back to stay again in the summer sometime when we can enjoy the outdoor bar and entertainment!
This is our second time we have stayed here and have already book for October. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and large. Love the walk in showers, the beds are comfortable. We travel with our dog they have a nice area to take the dogs out its a great place for your pets to go for a walk. Love the ladies at the front desk they are friendly and so good with pets it means a lot they treat them as a guest. The parking ramp is great too.
Very accommodating to our dog. Not easy to get to room. Into the casino and two elevators but it’s on the side of a hill. Staff was wonderful and accommodating. Room was quiet and clean. No smoking inside is great. Very friendly clientele. Very good dog place
We stayed here for the Mickelson Trail Marathon and really enjoyed it. It's a little confusing getting through the casino to the hotel but it's due to the historical nature of the original buildings and their renovations which adds to the charm of the whole facility. The rooms were excellent in every way. The beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was fully updated and clean. All the amenities you would expect in a high end hotel. The doormen, Dennis and Charles, where especially helpful with free shuttle rides around town to save us having to drive. This is one of the best benefits since parking can be limited in many areas of downtown Deadwood. I would definitely stay here again when we come back. Keep up the great work!
