We were only here for one night which was a shame because we really enjoyed the spacious family suite. It was so nice to have so much room to spread out. My kids loved every second they played in the indoor water park--the pictures online don't do it justice. I only wish there had been an outlet to charge my phone while I was watching them swim. We got dinner at Oggie's and Kaylee was super friendly and helpful. The hamburger steak was delicious as was the pizza we ordered. My husband was chatting with a local in the bar who comes into Oggie's for dinner often so we thought that was a good sign. I liked that the hotel was removed from the hustle and bustle of downtown Deadwood (we were there right before Sturgis) but only a short drive/trolley ride away. There is a small casino on the premises but it's smoke free so I appreciated that. Definitely recommending this property to my parents when they do the same trip next year as this hotel was referred to us by my in-laws who loved it, too. Hopefully soon the Lodge will have completed its remodel although that didn't impact us in any way.

My husband and I chose this resort for our anniversary as we planned on bringing our snowmobiles out to ride the Black Hills.
This place is amazing!! Rooms are cozy, beautiful & include a microwave and large mini fridge. It's very well laid out and includes a waterpark area for kiddos & a nice size hot tub.
The food is simply Devine!! Every single thing we ate was prepared beautifully, tasted amazing, and included fast & friendly service! Oggie's Sports Bar had the BEST pizza & the Deadwood Grille and their servers were top notch as well! I would compare the Grille to some of the pricier restaurants in Vegas however, without the huge sting to your pocketbook.
The Lodge was also a great central location not only to areas to trailer your snowmobiles to, but also to other attractions in the area; Mt. Rushmore, State Parks, Adam's House, Bear Country, Sturgis, Historic downtown, etc! We loved that the trolley ran hourly for only $1/person to take us from the resort to throughout the downtown area - so much to explore, great food, & fun times to be had as well as shopping!
The Lodge's casino was also a lot of fun! The resort offers a package you can add daily to pay $30 and receive $25 in food coupons & $25 in free play - what a deal!
We're already planning our next trip!!

Excellent location, easy to find, quiet. Great price for accommodations. On site restaurant was excellent and prices were very reasonable. All staff, including those at the front desk, casino attendees, restaurant servers, housekeepers, etc were professional, helpful and friendly. Being the summer of COVID-19, everyone went above and beyond to ensure we safe. Distance was maintained, masks were worn, hand sanitizers were readily available. The trolley into Deadwood was a pleasant surprise, especially with all the highway construction. We will definitely stay there again when in the area and recommend it family and friends.

Despite calling the Lodge several times before check in we were never informed about the pool being closed and the lack of housekeeping during our stay. When we checked in to our two rooms there were no notices nor were we told that there would be absolutely no housekeeping during our 4 day/3 night stay. There was a sign stating that the pool was closed for renovations. At that time they ran my card and placed a hold for “incidentals”. There was no notice that the only restaurant was operating on limited hours and menus. The casino sucked as half of the machines were down and none of the newest machines were operating so we were forced to travel to town to play at casinos and to eat. When I checked out I was told that because I booked my stay through Booking.com I would not be getting a detailed receipt. This was the first time that has ever happened as I have booked through Booking.com many times over the years. Subsequently my card was charged an additional resort fee by the Lodge after I checked out. When I questioned it I was told it wasn’t collected by Booking.com. I went back and checked my receipt from Booking.com and found that all taxes and REAORT FEES were collected when I paid in advance. Again I have to ask what were the resort fees for since there was no pool or spa, no housekeeping, only half the casino open and only one of the restaurants operating on limited hours? I have asked for a refund but I’m not holding my breath. By the way, their customer service sucks and most of the employees could use a class on being more customer friendly. In this time one would think they would be happy to have a job. Don’t stay here unless you are wanting indifferent, unfriendly treatment with no amenities or housekeeping. I would give it zero stars if I could.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review on TripAdvisor! We appreciate the feedback. We had to close the facility for two months and were only able to open under the guideline set forth by the city and state of South Dakota. This is why you will see only half of the machines in the casino and tables open in the restaurants. The menu in the restaurant in limited just like what you see in the grocery stores some products are out or simple are hard to get. We are only doing limited service in the guest room to protect you and our employee’s safety at this time. Thank you again for the comments and we appreciate the feedback.

This is a beautiful lodge, rooms very nice, beds very comfortable. Food really good,That’s the pros:
Cons:
No masks anywhere(which is fine with me) no signs for masks, you forget about covid here which is also fine with me, but when they tell you at check in there’s no housekeeping because of Covid, I just want to say really? How stupid do you think people are? We can walk around everywhere yet a room attendant cannot come into an empty room and vacuum, empty garbage, make beds and renew towels? The price for a room remains the same or higher with no housekeeping when you are here 3 days? We have to make our own beds, empty own garbage put dirty towels in hallway and go to front desk if we need more of them, not to mention when you are here for a few days the carpet needs vacuumed, next there will be vacuum cleaners in room. This is not a vacation!
Now for the casino, we play video poker, there are probably 15 machines in whole casino with the worst odds on a machine I have ever witnessed. Playing dollars you get 30 for a full house….it’s laughable really. Machines are very tight and I guess as much as we love South Dakota, we love our gambling trips this is not the place to come.

This is a beautiful resort and, for the most part, their employees are very nice & helpful. However, they have no housekeeping, even for extended stays. I travel a lot, so I know most hotels aren’t doing daily cleaning of rooms, which is fine. However, they usually come in to freshen the room if you’re there at least 3-4 nights. We were there for 5 nights and it wasn’t until we asked if our room could be refreshed or if someone could at least empty our garbage that we were told they don’t do that at all and we were given a bigger garbage bag and told to put the garbage in the hall. Okay…

My second concern isn’t completely on the hotel, but, at least on the weekend, the pool area is overrun by small children who aren’t being supervised, so they were jumping into the hot tub, splashing each other, throwing balls around, etc., making it completely impossible to relax at all. That is on the parents, but the hotel could at least have someone check in periodically. I wasn’t about to go to the desk in my wet suit to ask for a manager, but you’d think they would have cameras in there or at least have someone walk through every 15 minutes or so.

Lastly, we had a newly renovated room, which I would usually really enjoy. However, the remodel is an epic fail. The rooms used to be nicely themed to match the Deadwood vibe. Now the room looks like some modern hotel in NYC (look at my pictures to see what I mean). We chose this hotel, in part, because of the western vibe. If I wanted modern, I could have gone to the Hilton Tru hotel and paid less than 1/2 of what this place cost.

Not only that, but the room remodel was done horribly. Where the linoleum in the main room meets the bathroom tile, there’s a big sharp ledge. You could see light under the door to the balcony. The temperature of the water in the bathroom sink fluctuated randomly. You would be washing your hands & suddenly have scalding hot water. The water never got completely cool, either. The light fixture over the desk was incredibly crooked. The lamps next to the bed are so low that they were useless for reading in bed. The alarm clock has a nightlight that turned itself back on randomly. There was no phone in the room. I could go on, but I’ll stop. Lots of little things that didn’t make it a horrible experience, other than the water - that was bad, and the guy they sent up shrugged his shoulders & said someone would be back to look at it again on Monday, but no one ever showed up. Mostly we were just scratching our heads & wondering why they dumped what was likely a ton of money into this room, but didn’t keep the theme and didn’t make sure things were right before they had someone stay in the room.

To be fair, we had a very nice view from our room and there was a fair amount of storage, which was nice.

My advice: request a room that hasn’t been renovated yet.

This place is touted as "the place" in Deadwood. NOT. We are not picky, high-maintenance people, but when we checked into our room there was toilet bowl fecal spackle from a previous guest. Gross.

Then there was hair on the rim of the tub. The telephone in the room had a layer of visible dust I had to wipe off in order to call the front desk. At this point I'm already wondering if the sheets were really changed and imagining what other 'short cuts' were made. This was not conducive to a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

I called down to the front desk to ask for housekeeping and was told they were gone for the day.

Great.

The maintenance guy ended up coming to our room to clean the bathroom. The poor guy had to do housekeeping's job. He was the hero in this situation and tried to make it right.

Moving onto the other aspects of our stay.

We did not realize that this was the hotel people stayed with their pets. We have nothing against pets. We have cats and dogs of our own. However, when the dog across the hall was barking, howling, whining until 11:15 PM, because we are assuming the owners went down to gamble, that was the last straw.

The Lodge is a bit away from the city center, and there is a shuttle that they say runs on the hour every hour. We had to ask. There was no obvious information about the shuttle whatsoever in the room nor anywhere that we saw.

.....and yes, I addressed these comments with management.

I would NOT stay here again. A discount motel would have been a better deal - and probably cleaner.

Booked a standard room, arrived and they upgraded us to a deluxe, king size bed and an outside balcony with great views of the surrounding mountains AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. Front desk staff were very friendly. Great happy hour drinks&food. This lodge sits on the side of a mountain outside of Deadwood, very quite. Shuttle runs to town cost $1.00. We'll be back!

Our family only stayed for one night, but it was just what we needed when we visited Deadwood. Check-in was easy without no wait. We stayed during the Days of '76 and getting down to the rodeo was super easy using the trolley ($1/person). The kids thought it was cool too! The pool was geared towards kids and was shallow enough that we didn't have to be in the water the whole time with our 4yr old, just on the edge watching her. Nice bathroom facility in the pool area as well and fully stocked towels! On our trolley ride back from the rodeo, it was dark and our daughter exclaimed "There's an arcade?!" when we were getting dropped off at the hotel. I told her "No honey, that's a casino....kind of like an arcade for adults!". We never went in the casino area, except to use the cash machine ($4 charge) and getting change. Staff was excellent!

The Lodge is a beautiful property on a peak in the Black Hills. The rooms are super comfy, furniture made of wood and not particle board. Beds & linens are soft and clean.
The rooms are very quiet for being a casino hotel, good construction. No foot traffic in the area makes for quiet & safe surroundings.
Oggie's Restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner (closes at 10pm) and their menu selections are great. Unique food and drink that are native to the area.
There are renovations to the hotel currently but you barely notice them. They are also adding a sports book in the casino. The casino is clean and has zero smoke smell. There's a small portion of the casino you can walk through to get to the restaurant if you don't want to go outside.
We stayed with our dogs in a double queen, pet-friendly room and we really enjoyed our stay. Plenty of grass and outdoor areas for walking.
The Lodge is also very close to a great hiking trail on Mount Roosevelt to the Friendship Tower that overlooks Deadwood and the surrounding peaks in the Black Hills. You can see all of the way to Wyoming from the tower.
