Was ready to write off staying at B&Bs; tired of Victorians loaded with dusty tchotchke and quirky (not in a good way) owners. This place turned me around. The inn is immaculate, the owners accommodating, with a comfortable bed and spacious room. Jean provided me with a wonderful gluten free breakfast and Don took care of storing our bikes while... This is such a sweet inn. The owners were very welcoming and great host. We had to arrive later in the evening and leave early but it was a cozy little stop. We were welcomed downstairs the following morning well rested with a lovely full breakfast. Thanks so much for great accommodations.

Just 4 miles off 95 but a world apart from the standard variety highway hotel chains. Jean and Don have lovingly renovated this old school house to become a warm and charming B&B. We stayed in the Nancy room, which has a comfy king size bed and a nice sitting area, in addition to a well appointed bathroom. Jean cooked... More

My wife & I were traveling to Walterboro for a friends birthday party. Not a fan of all the mundane chain hotels, we always try & search out a nice B & B to stay in. After reading the reviews of the Old Academy, we called to make our reservation. Upon arrival we were greeted by Don & Jean, absolutely... More

My husband, 5 year old and I were driving up from Florida and had a wonderful short stay here. Extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated and great breakfast! We stayed in the king sized room and loved it.

We are snowbirds and wanted a change from hotels along the highway...well we found something Special! I would call it Southern charm at it's best. I love a beautiful dining room and this one is stunning. Jean made us a scrumptious breakfast served in her beautiful crystal and China. Bedrooms are all nicely decorated and spotless, just like the entire... More

We flew into Walterboro on a small plane trip to the Bahamas. Don and Jean were willing to be flexible on our reservation since it was weather dependent. Don picked us up at the airport and took us back the net day. Clean and pleasant. Nicely decorated. Jean was flexible about breakfast time so we could get an early start.

We enjoyed two nights at this delightful b&b. The former schoolhouse is quiet, restful and immaculately clean throughout. There is a variety of room configurations. We chose one with en-suite bathroom. Not disappointed. It was cozy and super comfortable. The delicious breakfast included fresh fruit, home baked goodies, real maple syrup - all elegantly presented in the dining room. Jean... More

Old Academy is one of those places you cone across only once and awhile. The owner/hosts make you feel immediately welcome. We arrived early and our room was so comfortable with its relaxing chairs and calming atmosphere, we never left our room until the next morning. The breakfast was wonderful and if we would have had more time we would... More

I stayed for one night on my way back to Florida from North Carolina. I was coming down with a terrible cold and just wanted rest. I was offered the most delightful room where you feel right at home. The bed was most comfortable and just what I needed after 5 hrs. of driving. Jean and Don are the "hostesses... More

“Some of the rooms don't have their own bath, so be aware of this when booking. The room we stayed in did have a very large nice private bath. Walterboro is a small quiet town, so don't expect much in the way of night life or excitement, but if you want a nice relaxing stay this is your place.”
