Detailed Reviews
I stayed for a long weekend at Holiday Shores and the staff was absolutely fantastic. They were genuinely there to make your stay as positive as possible. The hotel itself is located just a few steps from the beach and they will give you beach towels if you ask. They really stress a "just ask and we'll be happy to help" mentality. The hotel itself is nice. The common walkways upstairs are a little worn and a little dirty, but that's probably par for the course if you are near the beach. I had a suite that had a small living room, bathroom, kitchenette and bedroom. It was really comfortable and was the perfect amount of space for two people. I will admit that the carpet was a little dingy, but I have definitely seen much worse. Also the bath towels are thin and a few had some holes in them. But it is a quaint little hotel that is very centrally located and we had a great time. The only thing that I absolutely have to recommend to the hotel is to get rid of those platform beds. I must have smacked my my shin on it half a dozen times to the point where it broke the skin and I have a gigantic bruise. Especially in the middle of the night when I would get up, I repeatedly hit it. I would have to imagine I am not the only one. Other than that, I'd definitely go back.

This was definitely our best stay at a motel in at least a year and we travel a lot. This property was recently remodeled and the furnishings are now new and modern. The balconies facing the pool and the 60s motel style are awesome. My kids had a blast here even though the pool was closed. They loved running on the astroturf and the close proximity to the beach. The Keurig in the room was a nice touch along with the super comfy beds. We travel to MB frequently and this will definitely be our go-to place next time.

Response from Breana Swain, Guest Services / Front Office at Holiday Shores
Responded Feb 22, 2021
Hello Travelingtaters, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay here as customer service is what we value most. Our staff worked relentlessly on remodeling the property to give our guest a comfy southern welcome. We would love to have your family back in the summer to experience the warm weather and tropical poolside. Thank you for the feedback, as I will be sharing it with all staff members here at Holiday Shores. Hope to see you soon!

We loved our time at the Holiday Shores. It's a small family hotel with great affordable rates. About 300 yards from the beach it's the ideal get- away!! Our room was very clean and had everything we needed for a week away from home. We would recommend this motel to anyone!!

Unfortunately this hotel even though it has been remodeled forgot to really exterminate before putting furniture back in room and wall art. I mean this is an old 50 style cedar block hotel that has been through World War II era. I believe the roaches hanged out in the bricks while they were redoing this place and decided to come out after they finished. I was on the second floor on the right side I think the room was 207. I could not believe the amount of roaches. Very poor design the refrigerator almost sits on the floor. The shower stall has half glass and half curtain. The platform bed is terrible you will hit your knees in the night quite frequently. I guess I would call this a Goodwill new dress on an old'50s model Hotel. I think they need to close this down for about a half a month and really spray hard with a professional Roach company. I also think they should fix the small little details like locks night latches and good fitting doors with weather stripping Etc. I also think they need to add a hot tub here since they're charging a resort fee. I do not classify sleeping with roaches as a complementary gift to the guest. I was really hoping on this redo I was a long time Holiday Shores Motel customer. I will probably never come here again they just have too many problems. God bless I really wish you would have done the update a lot better than you did.

Unfortunately, I still haven't gotten rid of the cockroaches. I have stayed at this place on and off before it got sold. I mean, this is a special place. It's a nineteen fifties hotel that has stood the test of time around the huge resorts that have taken over nearby. Unfortunately , they forgot to really do some good preventative pest control when they did the redo. Stayed here for just a weekend.Roaches were everywhere. Just stayed one night and checked out next day. It will take a deep pest control plan to get rid of all these roaches. I stay nearby at one of the high-rises.I have never seen roaches in my room ever. I think if they ever find a way to get rid of the roaches, this might could be a promising property. Also the price point is not that cheap. I don't understand why they charge you a small resort fee. I really wish they would really exterminate. This property will reduce their rental rates. The roaches never left the original property. I think they have multiplied and become even bigger. Unfortunately, roaches have enjoyed this place more than anybody for free.

If you like cockroaches in your hotel room, this is the place for you! My son found it in the bathroom, killed it and refused to stay here. He is now in our rental car outside bc he is sick to his stomach.
Disgusting, I want a refund. Especially considering that I paid for a two queen room and instead got a one queen bedroom & pull out sofa.
Roaches are a MAJOR red flag!

Holiday Shores Motel had a lot of potential. It was inexpensive (~$125 / night), but not ghetto like many other beachside motels. Also, we could book a room for four with a kitchen, so we could cook some meals ourselves. Finally, we could get away from the high school and college kids coming to MB to party. We decided months before our summer trip that Holiday Shores Motel sounded like the perfect place for us to stay.
The day before our long drive, I called the front desk and spoke to Kathy, the owner and GM to confirm our reservations and ask some last minute questions about the room. She caught me off guard with one question: "Is everyone in your party over 21?"
I told her that, no, we had 1 person age 20, while the rest of us were over 21. She told that this was not okay, and that she would not rent to us. I realize she was stereotyping us as a bunch of "young, crazy, partying college kids" which is unfortunate given that the 4 of us are actually: a grad student, a teacher, a biology lab researcher, and a computer scientist. Despite our maturity and credentials, we were discriminated against on the basis of age.
She called me a liar and said she would not rent to us. She stated that I'd told her "no one in my party was over 21", but I was quick to clarify our ages and even offered to present IDs at check-in if she were still concerned (though I thought to myself how ridiculous this seems).
I told her that I'd read the age policy from her website which states: "Guests under 21 are not admitted unless accompanied by an adult." I explained to her that our 1 guest under 21 was accompanied by 3 adults, so everything seemed fine. She insisted that what the policy really meant was only families with small children can have guests under 21, and to bring a friend under 21 we would have to be "in our 30s". Well, I'm sorry, but the policy doesn't say anything like that. She got very nasty and called me a liar again and hung up on me to deal with another customer.
She canceled our reservation less than 24 hours before we were supposed to arrive.
At this point, I felt severely wronged as a customer, so I called the Oceana Resorts corporate office. The rep was very friendly, and I was transfered a few times after explaining the situation. They told me that we were indeed in compliance with the age policy, that they would talk to Kathy, and that we would indeed have a room upon arrival.
A few minutes later, I received a voicemail from Kathy about how I was a liar, and she would not be honoring what Oceana had told me, that I would be out of luck. This is an unreasonable way to handle customer service. At this point, my guests agreed unanimously that they'd be uncomfortable staying in a motel whose owner treated customers like this.
Frustrated, I called Oceana again. Once again, the reps were very friendly and I was escalated up the hierarchy as high as possible until eventually being told that reversing the decision of the hotel GM (Kathy) was beyond the power of the highest reps. When I detailed everything Kathy had said to us, I was transferred to the "Assistant to the CEO" who I left a voicemail for describing the whole situation.
The Assistant to the CEO must have seen my perspective because I got a call from Kathy an hour later. She stated she would be happy to rent to us if we each presented identification at check-in, which was weird, since she declined when I made the same offer earlier. She asked me to re-authorize her to charge my card since she had canceled our reservation. I politely declined stating that my fellow travelers would be uncomfortable given the way we'd been treated before even arriving, and we parted our separate ways. If you are a young adult, I recommend you consider any other motel or hotel around the beach that will not discriminate.

Response from OceanaResorts, General Manager at Holiday Shores
Responded Jul 24, 2013
We certainly regret the miscommunication that occurred over your reservation request with Holiday Shores. Our company policy is that one person in the party must be over the age of 21 and we always adhere to that policy. We sincerely apologize for the miscommunication over this matter and welcome all guests to Holiday Shores within our policy guidelines. Thank you again for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

We had a fabulous time at Holiday Shores! The entire staff made us feel at home. They welcomed us and took great care of us throughout our stay. We were a step away from the beach, shopping, and attractions. It was refreshing to stay in a smaller hotel where people take a genuine interest in your comfort and enjoyment while you are visiting. The price is right and the people are even better! I highly recommend Holiday Shores to any person or family looking for that little extra care you don't find in most places anymore!

My husband and I went down for our Anniversary last year. We already had a room at the Hilton for 2 nights, but decided to go early and find a room somewhere else for 1 night. We ran across the Holiday Shores and just thought it would do. When we got into the room it was late and we just went to bed, but we slept great. The bed was so comfortable and it was quiet there. The room was very cute and very clean, the bedroom was at the back with a small living room up front with the bathroom and small kitchenette to break them up. The pool was clean and the people were very nice. After one night in the other hotel, we wished we could go back to Holiday Shores. We will definitely stay there again in the future with our family.
