On 10/08/22 I booked with Hotel.com (div. of Expedia) a 5 day stay (entering 08/21 and leaving 08/25) at the Mermaid Inn in Myrtle Beach SC. The reservation stated that the cancellation deadline was 08/20 before 06:00. Saturday 08/20 around 11:30 AM on Highway 81 about 15 miles past Syracuse NY I had a mechanical breakdown on my car that required towing and repair. Since I didn't have the no. like. from Hotels.com. Knowing that I could not go to Myrtle Beach, I called the Mermaid Inn with my number. reservation form indicating that I had a mechanical breakdown and that I had to cancel my stay and as soon as I could do I called Hotels.com to let them know what had happened and at the same time request a refund . Reimbursement was refused as it appears to be in conflict with Mermaid Inn's cancellation policy. It makes no sense. So, a friendly advice, I recommend you do not do business with them or with Mermaid inn. Because in the event of a problem, you will never be reimbursed. We have lost 850.00$ CND…
Place is nasty and shady. Crappy little junky motel surrounded by much nicer ones for same prices. Pool has no lighting at night. Rooms are disgusting. Shady area. Better options within walking distance of this shack. Definitely don't book through AirBnb for this place. Scam.
We decided to leave for our vacation two days early. We arrived in Myrtle Beach very late and the office to the place we were staying for the week was closed so the Mermaid Inn was close by. Check in and check out was easy. Staff was nice but the rooms need updating very bad and wasn’t the cleanest. The parking lot smelled of weed. It’s definitely not a place I would spend my vacation. We stayed there two nights and I couldn’t wait to check out.
Our flight was canceled which resulted in us not being able to stay, Brenda the manager is unsympathetic and would not work with us to reimburse or offer any other creative solutions such as a credit, split the difference. HER response says it all, she said I could write a bad review, it doesn't matter, they are filled up every weekend regardless...no empathy, sympathy or customer service!
No perfessional customer service, dogs barking all night, even after quite time. Management said that they couldn't refund my money so I could find a better hotel. I have two rooms booked and spent too much money and time trying to find a place out of town
We had a great stay. Coffee pot wasn’t working but that was no biggie for us! Only thing I would recommend is wiping down the bathroom door was a little dirty from people touching it. Other than that great stay! Was so happy how close to the beach it was! Would def stay again and the front desk ladies were so nice!
My family walked in and booked a room today. They had lost their reservations at their original booking because they were late arriving. They decided not to stay at the Mermaid after they found some things not quite right with their room. The person in charge said they would not refund any of the 3 day charge that had been paid just a couple hours before. They had gone straight out to the beach before checking the room so when they reported it they were told to call back in a couple hours to check on their refund. Then received a call and were told they made up the issues with the room so no refund. That is not true.
Room was clean , clean beds and bathroom . It’s nothing fancy but basic , clean room , pool was nice , short walk down to the beach. This place is for the vacationer that’s not looking for all the bells and whistles of a hotel . Basic room clean and priced fairly .
DO NOT STAY HERE!!! The hotel was absolutely disgusting and very disappointing. The room was filled with mildew, the bathroom had muddy boot prints and the tub was covered in black mold. The staff was as rude as they were incompetent. The manager refused to even speak with me and ran out the back door when I tried to confront her. When I asked the desk clerk to call her, she claimed she didn’t have the number. When I questioned her on how she would contact her manager if there was a problem or if she was sick, she responded that she “would come to work sick”. I said even if you thought you had COVID19 in the middle of a pandemic? She said “Yeah I would just wear a mask”. Really??? As I said, rude and incompetent! Another desk clerk gave me a key to a new room, but when I when I opened the door there was a woman sitting on the bed. I was mortified and the woman was understandably angry. The clerk gave me a key to another room and when I opened that door there was someone’s luggage in the room. I’ve been trying to track down the owner, Dawn to no avail. I’ve also been trying to get them to refund my stay. I REPEAT AGAIN DO NOT STAY HERE!!…
Last Visit Ever! When reservations were made, nothing was said about a $20/night resort fee. I complained at checkout, was told it was for the use of city’s sidewalks. What a crock!! We had no towels. No Internet. Dirty clothes in drawer and the lavatory clogged. Water pressure is terrible. Only nice thing I can say, is beds were comfortable. We have stayed here many times, but NEVER again.
