We started here regularly for the last few years, but this year it was just not the same... the room was not as clean as it had been in the past, and there was definitely some disrepair that needed to be addressed we also killed quite a few bugs ... however it’s $76/night to wake up looking at the ocean. Oddly there was an eviction (?!?) while we were there and all the persons stuff just blocked up the side entrance- I know there are rules and they have to keep it a certain amount of time, but definitely not a great place to leave it all. Basically you get what you pay for. Side note- staff was nice, front desk was friendly and helpful but the Vancouver Motel could definitely do better.
We had a lovely time at the Vancouver. Staff was more than accommodating and friendly. Our requirements were CLEAN and beachfront and the Vancouver offered much more. We wanted to take our pup to the beach. Listen folks there is NO carpet. Big big bonus. So easy with Gary. Even after a fun day at the beach with him it was easy to clean up. There is also a hose to wash off paws and a small pet area for doing their business. It’s also very convenient to shopping and restaurants. All in all it suited our needs perfectly and the weather was perfect. Owner present on property and was very attentive to our wants and needs. We’re already planning on staying all of October next year.
Ok so here is the deal. While looking for a last minute hotel that was pet friendly In Myrtle Beach, we came across Vancouver Motel. One main reason we were interested in booking this motel was, although it was older, multiple reviews indicated how clean it was. (This was completely untrue- we stayed at the Seahawk Motel last year that was very similar, but light-years ahead of Vancouver). The booking site indicated there was an oceanfront ground floor room available. I called to see how much of the ocean/beach was visible since it is ground floor. I was told we could see the ocean but that there was a grass dune obstructing the beach. She quoted me a total that came to around $180 a night, so I booked the room right then on the phone. Fast forward to check-in the next day. Thankfully, before running my card I confirmed it was an oceanfront room. I was told no, it was ocean view, not oceanfront. After a bit of looking the room I was promised was still available and the room was changed. I was also told the pet fee was not originally included so they charged me an extra fee. Upon printing out the receipt, he noticed oh yeah you were charged that initially. He immediately processed a refund. He was fine through the entire process, even though the reservation appeared completely wrong. The positives of the motel: Two beach access points on either side of the hotel, one with a nice shower. Always parking available. WIFI is available. They accepted pets. There was a food truck at the Residence Inn next door that had great food we snuck to for lunch. Negatives: On the form I had to sign, in capital letters, it indicated pets had to be accompanied at all times. Dogs are only allowed on the beach from 5pm-10am, sooo there is going to at least be a time when we run for dinner they will be alone. Just an odd requirement. There was no “do not disturb’ door hanger (minor issue, just made my own). Because of Covid, you had to bring your ice bucket to the front desk and they would fill it. Fine, but the office closed at 8pm daily, so get your ice early! There was no alarm clock or clock of any kind in the room. The TV remote barely worked and the channel lineup was scarce (no premium channels). There was one working plug, next to the kitchen sink. We could not use the sink because it smelled like something died in the drain, I had to plug it with a bowl. Anytime the water was used, the room would fill with this odor. It has a kitchen with plates, mugs and cups, but no kitchen towels or mini dish soap to wash anything with. The coffee maker was hit and miss when it would actually decide to make us coffee. The freezer worked great, the refrigerator did not, everything stayed warm at its coldest setting. I was told someone would come and look at it (missed dinner waiting) and they never came. The first day there, the AC unit above ours was dripping so heavily half of the balcony was a puddle. Our AC unit’s front panel was severely bent, which probably led to the amount of flies and mosquitos in the room (that and the smell from the drain possibly). I could barely sleep with the constant biting of mosquitos. Half of the balcony bars were broken and unattached fully. We were on the bottom level next to the common area of the Residence Inn and there was A LOT of foot traffic, all day and night. The room was very dirty and outdated. The shower would not drain so the water was past my ankles by the end. The water handle with a C was actually hot water. We may be have been able to deal with the multiple inconveniences if we paid $50 a night, but at close to $200 a night, nah there are other places to stay.…
Very friendly staff, nice clean rooms and spacious. Pool is awesome. Love the fact that they allow two dogs also. Literally right on the beach, you can walk anywhere. Price is excellent, definitely will be staying here again. In fact I already have another booking.
Always treat us really good. And always available. This is my 4 or 5 time here, and always good. I always get here late, after 10, and the left the keys and receipts in the mailbox of the office. And the next day, they make sure I'm happy with what I got. Always give me a extra hour to check out, because they know i came late. Thanks vancouver. To make us feel like a home.
