My family and I visited Ocean lakes this week, staying in a rental home. The camp ground seems to be doing a great job of protecting their staff from Covid-19 and leaving the health of the guests in their own hands by not inforcin FB mask/distancing rules that are posted around the camp ground. The camp ground was a full capacity, woth more guests than I have ever seen. I witnessed one couple wearing masks in the Sandy Mart store and no masks at any other location with people shoulder to shoulder in the pool, eating areas, magic show auditorium and beach. I’ve never seen so many people trying to occupy one area. This would be a deterrent for a vacation spot alone, but with a global pandemic happening, this is completely absurd. I’m in total shock that no effort was made to limit amounts of people in the pool, limiting pool chairs, moving seats during an entertainment show or enforcing any kind of mask rules. Either no one believes Covid-19 is real here or they simply are on vacation and think the rules don’t apply. Additionally, the home in which we stayed does not allow cleaning services and requires guests to clean/sanitize the home before the next guests. Ocean lakes should be requiring extra cleaning if they insist on remaining open. If you are in any way worried about Covid-19 and spreading it to your loved one and communities, please avoid Ocean Lakes. I can’t imagine how many people have acquired the virus this week but the campground will be certainly responsible for many many infections, and losses of life. We left early and regret making a reservation.

Lori, we share your frustration. As you observed we have taken many precautions throughout our operations per CDC guidelines and communicated endlessly to strongly encourage guests to abide by guidelines. However, it is the responsibility of the guest to follow guidelines and our abundance of COVID signage clearly references the potential consequences and potential fines. Our team works to implement the Ordinances set in place by the authorities (County Officials and SC Governor) and have had numerous conversations with local and state authorities. Their Ordinances address enforcement, see below: HORRY COUNTY Ordinance July 3, 2020, Section 2. Face Coverings, paragraph 1: “…The business shall not have responsibility for enforcing this requirement, but shall post conspicuous signage at all entrances informing its patrons of the requirements of this Section 2.” Highlighted on our signage: PLEASE NOTE FAILURE TO COMPLY: A person who fails to comply with this Section 2 shall be guilty of a civil infraction, punishable by a fee of $25.00 for a first offence, $50.00 for a second offense, and $100.00 for a third and subsequent offense. Each day of a continuing violation shall be considered a separate and distinct offense. SC EXECUTIVE ORDER 2020-50 August 3, 2020: Under “Enforcement” it is stated: “In accordance with the South Carolina Code of Laws, State, county, or city official have been authorized and directed to enforce the provisions of Executive Order 2020-50 and any prior orders issued in connection with the present State of Emergency. The penalty for violation of any provision of this and prior executive orders is a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction, the violator must be fined not more than one hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than thirty days.” CLEANING: if you rented through Ocean Lakes Properties there is a mandatory cleaning fee as we hire a professional company to clean and sanitize our 300 rental houses. Private rentals may or may not abide by such a standard. We strongly encourage guests to consider OLP and always recommend caution with any private rental online to ensure it is legitimate and that they are cleaning and sanitizing. Finally, we take offense at your accusation and ill will towards our guests and campground during this global crisis. YOU left a major hot spot to visit South Carolina.

We stayed in a house that had a lift to help my mom get up and down. The houses are privately owned and packed in like sardines. At night the golf carts and teenagers drive around like on a beach strip cruising up and down. They have fun. I can see how this would be a great place to go year after year and build relationships with families. A lot of amenities, like slides, stores, restaurants, games, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, corn hole and the beach is right there. Extras from the recreation center also. Staff very friendly.. However if you dont like noise dont stay here. Very loud at night. This may work better for RV families who seemed much quieter on there end of town. The best thing is you can walk to the beach.

Thank you for taking the time to share your first-time experience at Ocean Lakes. We definitely have a “family” feel to our campground where relationships develop over the years and friends are made for life. I love that was so apparent to you and your family! We also have so many amenities and services for our guests. And yes, there are many sites that have evolved over the years as families have grown, many of their campers grew into 2-story stick build homes on pilings. Of course, summer is very busy and with 310 oceanfront acres, we have a lot of guests. Many guests love the summer energy and vibes, many other guests prefer the shoulder seasons when the kids are traditionally back in school but our weather is still mild. Ocean Lakes Properties offers about 300 rental houses of all sizes and features and guests can search their website or call the 800-845-2229 to speak with a reservations teammate. We hope to see you again soon!

Ocean Lakes is very busy with lots of people. We have been to OL many times, but this was the first time we had stayed near the ocean. Had to call security one night due to fireworks being set off on the beach. Ocean Lakes security have no control over what happens on the beach; therefore, the noise went on many different nights until way into the morning hours. Ocean Lakes rents out hundreds of golf carts and allows anyone 16 or older to drive the carts. Therefore there is a constant parade of carts everywhere with most of them being driven by young kids often very unruly and careless. Security does not seem to have enough help to manage such a crowd. Due to the congestion in the campground and the number of people on the beach, this will be our last time coming here. If you’re not into constant loud noise and lots of people, I would recommend that you go elsewhere.

We are saddened to learn you do not want to return to Ocean Lakes after so many years of great vacations here! All of your previous visits had set a level of expectation that was not met on your last visit and for that, I apologize. Please know that every guest's experience matters to our team. Summer is very busy and not for everyone, but seasons and the site choice can make a difference. Please know that we do address many of the issues you mentioned. Often guests do not see Security taking action, but please know that we do every day, 24/7. True, we do not catch everyone, but we speak to and even fine or trespass many guests who just cannot abide by our policies or respect other guests. I listen to the Motorola radio at my desk to monitor the team operations. I hear Patrol work together as the comb the campground to find guests (by location and description) to stop them after a teammate or guest calls Security to report reckless driving, loud music or language or a young-looking driver. I hear Security stopping many golf cars to check for age and ID. Sometimes they are surprised at the driver’s age and call out a description so that guest is not repeatedly stopped. Many times I hear “underage driver, golf car (number), site (number), $100 fine. We know there is always room to improve and we call on parents and guests to help. Call Security at the Main Gate 24/7. They log and investigate every call. Behavior is a huge issue, but that problem goes far beyond our gates. Not an excuse, it is the world we all live in today. I sincerely hope you will reconsider Ocean Lakes again. Obviously, the oceanfront sites are not for you. Some guests love them, others prefer being back in the 3000 or 4000 sections where there is less traffic trying to get to and from the ocean. Site choice can greatly impact a guest’s experience and our team is always happy to lend advice and feedback so your vacation is fun and relaxing. Hope to see you again soon.

First, this place was a chaotic mess. The campsites are cramped together so tight that I couldn’t get my fifth wheel in the small spot. The workers for the park cut grass outside our camper at 7:45 am and blew grass all over our chairs, side of camper, and woke up my kids. Additionally, the gold carts are all over the place and you cannot move. Ordered a pizza and couldn’t get to the front gate to pick it up because of the unorganized golf cart mess. The worker at the gate also got upset with my wife as she tried to go into the campground while their parade of golf carts was ongoing. He smarted off to her with a smirk. My kids were miserable as there was no way to ride a bike. 20000 people at a campground (according to their brochure) is pitiful and sad. Greed seems to be the #1 motivator with this park. It feels like campers are packed in like sardines. Way too small!! Never again for us! Finally, this place is only good for 16-23 year olds who party all night and don’t care about anyone else. This was an epic failure! We hated our stay and will never go back!!!

We understand your vacation is important and we would hope every guest has an amazing time here; we missed the mark and I apologize. We ALWAYS expect our team to be friendly and respectful, even while enforcing our policies and seeing to guest safety. Whenever there is an issue, we ask that guests let us know while they are in the campground by asking to speak to a Manager or Supervisor. Often we can address the issue, perhaps we could have moved you to another site or section out of the busy oceanfront area. When guests let us know about a problem, at least we can get the details so that we can address it with our teammate(s). It becomes a teachable moment to improve our service to every guest. Our campsites are all pull-thru and average 45 feet long and 35 feet wide, many are much larger. We do have some end sites for tents or small units. Guests bring a lot of "stuff" with them and we ask guests to keep all belongings 3 feet from the road to help assist newer drivers or those with large units. We reserve by specific site number, so we always encourage guests to find the site that "fits" them best. If you have young children or pets, you may want to be in a section farther from the beach - EVERYONE is moving to and from the ocean so those sections are HIGH traffic. The 3000 and 4000 sections with an interior site would be more ideal for children and pets. Our Quiet Hours are 11 PM - 7 AM, I will let our Grounds Manager know of the situation. We always want our team to be respectful of guests and their belongings. Frankly, I am surprised that happened as they usually focus on other areas early. It is peak summer - our park is extremely busy - it is very large so that amount of guests makes us "Disney" busy. We know sometimes that surprises guests who have not been here in season, and I apologize it impacted your stay. I do hope you would reconsider Ocean Lakes in the future during another time and on a different site section. Best wishes in all camping adventures!

We just returned home from a week at Ocean Lakes in our motorhome with our grandchildren. Here is an honest review from a person who is fairly easy to please. Ocean Lakes has every amenity any camper would ever want. The grounds are clean and free of litter. We had a full hookup, pull through site with a cement patio in the 2000 section. We spent the majority of each day at the pool. The pool/water park area was immaculate, bright and fresh! There are clean bathrooms, food and slushees in the pool area. There are also drinking fountains to refill your water bottle. We were there in mid-July and contrary to other reviews, we found 3-4 chairs together everyday. We did arrive when they opened at 9am though. Anyone who stays at resorts knows pool chairs are at a premium. If it’s important to you, you have to be willing to go early. We never got chairs under an umbrella. You’d have to be waiting at the gate when it was unlocked to get those. We had a 7, 9 and 14 year old so I felt it would not be right to take those seats when people with babies or older people would need them more. The kids never waited in line longer than about 20 minutes to ride the waterslides, even in the afternoon when the area was busiest. We all loved the lazy river. It takes about 10-15 minutes to make one lap. We also always found a parking space at the pool for our golf cart. People who complain the contrary, probably didn’t arrive until after 9:30 or 10am. The beach: There are entry paths with sand showers at the end of every road so you can access the beach just about anywhere. There is golf cart parking along the road parallel to the beach. Again, we never had a problem finding a spot, but we were so close that we didn’t drive it to the beach often. The beach was clean and there was plenty of room. We never went to the beach until later afternoon so we had to set up about 3 rows back. That was fine with us, we spent most of our time in the water anyway. You can probably get a front row seat if you are there in the am. Another really nice perk is that they have spring water refill stations throughout the park and they are free! We went through 1 or 2 gallons of water every day so don’t forget to take a jug to fill. We never got a chance to play mini golf or see the arcade. The store was well stocked with everything you might need, but there’s also a WalMart supercenter 2 miles away. We placed a big order online. They have grocery pickup. We got ice cream a few times and the price was family friendly. You really need a golf cart to get around if you want to see and do everything as this place is huge but they have enough that you don’t have to worry about whether you can get one. Now the negative: Our first impression was the entrance and it was Disney-like (I compare everything to Disney quality, cleanliness and efficiency bc they are masters at it) but the lady at the express entry gate was rude every time I encountered her. Also the lifeguards at the pool were somber and never interacted with the guests. They were college-age and could have just been bored. It is a boring job. The lifeguards at the slides were fun and interactive though. The first 1/4 mile of our journey to our site was condos. We were kind of confused at first. Once we got to the first of the campsites we were not impressed. They were dirt, it was dark from the trees and they looked dirty and we got worried. As we got closer to the ocean things brightened up and the campsites started to look nicer. Our site was probably one of the nicest we saw, the grass was thick and green. There were no bare dirt on our site and the cement slab was almost new looking. There are many rules about all the thousands of golf carts; 10mph speed limit, no loud music, no cruising after 11pm and drivers had to be 16. These are all great rules, however they were NEVER inforced! Young kids were driving pedal to the metal all hours of the day and night. Many blasting loud thumping music. The site next to us was empty and it was a thoroughfare of golf carts cutting through like it was a road. We were worried for our youngest grandson most of the time. I saw plenty of close calls between golf carts and little kids. We never saw any security and they need to beef it up and get control of the golf cart chaos! Also fireworks are against the rules, yet there were fireworks going off late into the night. We will definitely be back and I would recommend the 2000 section as it is close enough to everything. The closer you get to the pool, the more chaotic the area and the sites are mostly sand with little grass. The sites in the back were dark and mostly dirt. So to summarize. Ocean Lakes is a great value for everything they have to offer. It is clean and well-groomed. Everything you need is right there. It’s the inconsiderate, rule-ignoring patrons you have to over-look.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share the details of your experience, your many compliments, and what honestly concerned you. Please know that we will share your review with our team! Your words mean a lot. Thank you for "Ocean Lakes is a great value for everything they have to offer. It is clean and well-groomed. Everything you need is right there. It’s the inconsiderate, rule-ignoring patrons you have to over-look." Our team of more than 580 teammates (in-season) works diligently to clean, maintain, and improve all that our campground has to offer. We hope our teammates always provide outstanding service in an upbeat, friendly, manner. And YES, it is the behavior of some inconsiderate guests that rudely impact the vacation experience of others! It is so frustrating for our entire team. Please know that we appreciate your constructive criticism. Know that we are very committed and work diligently to enforce our policies. We do address many golf car issues daily - we know we do not catch them all, but I assure you we catch many. We ask that parents help with their teens and we encourage adults to set a good example. Regardless, please know our team lives, works, and plays here, too - so this really matters to us as well. Thank you for sharing your site tips! We do have a 360 video tour of each row of campsites on our YouTube Channel - look for the playlist. When someone books a campsite online, just look for the YouTube "play" icon and it will take you to the video of that row of campsites :) We are honored to even be compared to Disney. Thank you so much. We hope you and your family can return very soon!
