We have been coming here for several years now. We’ve camped for the most part, my preference. This year was during Labor Day week, so it was quite busy, but that is to be expected. We had a fabulous time using the amnesties and avoided the golf cart parade a couple nights only because it was a stand still. The other nights my 4 year old grand daughter had a blast. I’ve looked over reviews and I have to say I did not experience what they did. As for the Security they were on top of loud and bad language in our experience. I’d like to share my thoughts on some of the complaints mentioned by other reviewers. Firstly, like most anything everyone’s perspective is different. For example, the weed smell. I personally only smelled it maybe twice. Coming from the area we live in, which is not big city, all you have to do is go to your local Walmart and you think you took up the habit yourself. Personally, once or twice in our experience was no big deal. As for the food line, yes, it was long, but it was busy. During our stay if the ice cream window had been open more that would have cut down on the long line, but we are on vacation so no hurry. We figured it taught our grand daughter patience. Lol. Honestly, if you come to a large campground you will experience exactly that; especially in the summer. It’s busy. As for the beach and finding somewhere to sit - I don’t know if any beach that it’s not when it’s peak season. I always go out early morning and set up a spot to beat the rush. Now for the pool and splash park. It was great too. Busy, yes, but we were able to enjoy it plenty. Weather and staffing issues can play a role, but our time we only saw closure because of accidents happening in the pool, but they were back up and running after the hour. I will say the older gentleman that worked in the pool cafe was incredibly friendly and he was a complete joy. Anyhow, that’s my 2 cents worth. We will continue to go and OL will continue to be our favorite place to vacation at the beach. In our opinion and perspective it has it all!!! PS. If you have a big rig, like some mentioned in other reviews, my only advice is go smaller or realize you might just have to maneuver to get your unit in. I learned a long time ago that smaller gets in more places more easily. I get it though. Just a thought.

First time visit to OLC. Two senior ladies spending a wk in a nice PM. On arrival we checked in, got keys and then rented a golf cart for the wk. When we got to our place they had given us the wrong keys. After getting the right keys we checked out our place. It was small but clean. The parking was really tight for car & cart. One night @ 2:00am we woke up to banging on the door to find 3 RENT A COPS. They said the cart was parked in the wrong place to charge. One of the men found an outlet it was between the PM & a building a very out of sight place. There should be info on that inside of the PM. POINT: Did they really have to wake us in the middle of the night? There was a restaurant about 50ft from the back gate. A neighbor had told us about it so we went for breakfast on the cart. That morning the guard was very friendly and never mentioned a 100$ fine. The Next day my friend wasn't feeling well so I went to that restaurant again only to find a very rude RENT A COP blocking my way. He gave me a ticket for 100$ & said I had 30 minutes to go pay it. I explained about the day before but he didn't want to hear it. For the most part it was a nice place to vacay. I think this old senior lady will find a more friendly place next year.............................

Absolutely our very favorite place to vacation. We rent a house but there is also a fantatic RV/tent camping area. There's something for anyone if those bored teenagers. Beautiful beach and huge pool. Can't wait to go back!

Well first off we arrived and the grass or what was left of it was over a foot high. Secondly the site was littered with cigarette butts and other debris. The times we were told the water park would be open were not correct. Water park and slides were not open till late afternoon. Then my son got a ticket for vulgar music with the security guard couldn’t tell me what was said. And this was happening while the other security guard was telling them all how she liked the golf cart and how it was decorated. Then when asked to be able to view the body cam footage to hear what was said I was denied. So I requested to speak with a supervisor. I was told to go to my site and one would come. On our way back to our site another golf cart was playing music that cursed and another security officer told him to turn it down, so much for zero tolerance. Security came to my site and I explained to him that I wanted to see the body camera video that would depict the vulgar language from the music that was being played. The security guard right away got an attitude with me and told me if I wasn’t going to pay the ticket I would be trespassed. I explained to the security that normally in america there’s a process and you get a chance to prove your innocence before being convicted. I guess at ocean lakes the security is the judge jury and prosecution. He then told me I was going to be trespassed and he would put me in hand cuffs and I was past the 30 min allotted to pay the ticket even though he didn’t show up till 40 min later.A couple of my friends sent me away to speak to the officer. While he then told them that he would taze me. Another female officer came she was vey very calm and should be commended for her demeanor rather then the first security guard. Ultimately the ticket was paid. And nothing else was done. Ocean lakes now seems to be more of a money making scheme then anything. It’s not bad enough the make over 100k a day in just camping sites. Now they are basically strong arming people to pay a 100 dollars or your trespassed. The week we were there will be our last, as well as the friends we were with. Ocean lakes will loose several families this week from ever coming back. However I really feel that it doesn’t matter to ocean lakes cause they know there will be others right behind us.

Response from Teammate Barb Krumm, Marketing at Ocean Lakes Family Campground

Hi Chris - Please know that I shared your review with our team including the Security Managers and our VP/GM. Our Green Team works diligently to keep our campsites mowed and clean. Anytime a site needs attention just let us know - contact the Main Office, or flag a company vehicle down so that Teammate can radio the Green Team. Summer is challenging as our campsites stay booked; our Team doesn't want to disturb the guests with mowing. When I contacted our Security team about your review, Jason, Assistant Security Manager, recalled your situation. Kristina explained to you, per policy, if you refused to pay the fine, that you could be trespassed. She explained if you paid, that you could set up a meeting to speak with the Security Manager, Cedric, or with Jason. You did pay but never requested a meeting with our leadership. Our Team reviewed the video and the cursing was prominent in the body cam footage - 3 curse words and very loud. Security Managers review the body cam footage to make sure our Team is responding to issues properly and in a respectful manner, to help determine what happened, and to confirm the citation or fine was merited. This footage has proved very valuable in training our Team regarding guest behavior. We understand that some guests may not agree with our policies but they do not share our perspective nor receive the feedback from the other guests that our team does. We strive to be a great oceanfront campground for all families, and that requires some policies to help keep things family-friendly and fun for all. Some guests are surprised that we enforce our policies. I assure you the fines fall far short of the expense to monitor and address guest behavior issues (a challenge for many businesses these days). The majority of our Security Team is SLED Certified (SC Law Enforcement Division) and we work closely with Horry County Police and strive to be fair and consistent with our policies. If you would like to speak directly with a member of management, please do not hesitate to call or email. We are happy to meet with or speak with our guests. So often the people who call and speak to our leadership have a new perspective and understanding and are glad they called or took the time to meet with us. We wish you the best! We know vacations are important and all we ask is that guests respect our Team, our policies, and other guests.

This was our first time at Ocean Lakes. The house we rented through the Ocean Lake services was really dirty. After a couple times walking across the living room floor his socks were black on the bottom. Quite gross. There was obvious dirt and grim in open corners of the room. We also had to rewatch dirty dishes in the cabinets. There was a sign on the fridge that told us not to drink water from the faucet. We had to bring gallon jugs to a water station for drinking. Some friends told us he water stinks. Overheard some home owners talking about hiding cameras in the house to check on the renters. Very creepy and illegal. We didn't find any but weren't every really sure. The water park is far too small to enjoy. The park has obviously outgrown it. We were told there was a curfew. You weren't supposed to drive the golf cart after 11 PM unless you were going somewhere with an end point. Heard that some renters had to pay $5 a day to park the car in the driveway. For the price we don't think we would return again.

Sites are a bit tight for larger rigs. Overall nice vibe of the place. Friendly staff, Food options on site, and a great grocery store so you really don’t have to leave except for larger items/orders. Everything is updated and clean. Pool is a bit cold but otherwise enjoyable. Beach front and enjoyable family trip!

Hello! Thank you for staying at Ocean Lakes, we are so glad you enjoyed our campground, friendly teammates, campsite, and endless amenities. Our campsites average 45 feet long and 35 feet wide, with some much larger. Of course, in our 52 years, the RVs have gotten much larger and the biggest sites are reserved first! We sure hope you can return again in the future! Our team is always happy to speak with you about picking the right campsite for your needs :)

First time visitors to this particular place in Myrtle. We generally go to PCB but wanted to cut our drive time in half this year and so glad we did! This place is wonderful for families, couples, and kids of all ages. They have everything you would want or need right there. Bring your golf cart or rent one on site and you will never have to leave the grounds your whole vacation. They have a water park, basketball, corn hole, volleyball, arcade, ice cream shop with food as well, an indoor pool location, a laundromat, a market, several lakes with fishing ALL ON SITE. Lots of lodging to choose from to meet everyone's needs. And let's not forget the golf cart high five parade on the strip every night, which is a must do as well. We rented stilt house #1507 on Neptune. It was a basic 3 bedroom 2 bath house. Had outdoor shower to clean off all the sand, laundry room etc. I did not like that linens were not provided as in sheets, pillow cases, dish cloths, and towels and washcloths. It was $170 for linen rental, or you have to bring your own. And even after paying that fee, it's left in a laundry bag for you to put on yourself. I feel if I'm paying that much, it should be done for me and ready to go when I get there. All in all a great experience and we definitely will visit again.

Thank you for trying Ocean Lakes and choosing Myrtle Beach this year! We are so happy your family enjoyed our campground and had fun while enjoying all our amenities. Ocean Lakes Properties does offer linen rentals for a fee based on the number of guests, beds, etc., or guests can bring their own. I will pass your comments on to the OLP team. We hope you and your family can be our guests again soon!

Hi there! Not sure what happened... We would love more details (names, description, time), especially since you created this profile to leave a review regarding this matter. Customer service is very important to us. Our team strives to be very friendly and helpful. I am glad Security could assist you! We try to go out of our way to help when we have a customer where English is not their native language or help a guest with a heavy accent. Two of our supervisors in the Main Office are fluent in Spanish, but we have teammates throughout our team that are bilingual. We always try to find them to help communicate with a guest. I am sorry we made you feel uncomfortable. Wishing you the Best!

3rd time here. 1st time in July. 19 of us in total between 2 houses. 1 house was on the ocean street cost $12,000. Absolutely beautiful house. The other house a few houses down the street from the ocean. $4000 for the week. Nice house, set up, cable tv and internet issues the entire week. It is very hard to get around and forget trying to go anywhere at night in your golf cart. The street at night is a parking lot of golf carts with mostly teenage kids. My larger problem is the smell of weed. 5 minutes don't go by without getting hit in the face with the smell. Yeah they have security on the street at night, but they are checking to make sure the driver is 16 or older. Not doing a thing about the constant pot smoking. Try driving around the campground during the day and you will frequently see clouds of smoke coming from other carts driving around and then you end up driving into the cloud of stink. So my 6 year old granddaughter, 4 year old great granddaughter and almost 1 year old grandson get to experience this daily for 7 days without ever leaving their deck. I would think if they cared, the Campground would have security busting these kids at night driving the golf cart parade and on foot during the day throughout the park. It really is a problem. I went there thinking I wanted to buy a place and do the Airbnb/VRBO thing. That will not happen now. I won't set foot in the place after this "vacation." Never again! I'm not one who complains. I'm the person who walks up to a manager at a restaurant and says "the server was great" or "the food was great." I often complement because it seems feedback is mostly negative. For the most part, I enjoyed my previous 2 visits, but they also weren't in as busy of a time.

Responded Jul 24, 2023
Hi Steve, your family had a great time during the other 2 visits; we apologize you did not feel the same on your 3rd visit in July. Summer can be intense - while many guests love the energy and people, we understand others do not. We try to let people know - summer is peak season, and Disney busy. Yes, there are a lot of people, and many of them are driving golf cars. It creates traffic on the main roads. Site location really factors into the experience during the summer! Many teammates are parents or grandparents, so yes, we have a problem with guests smoking weed too. Security spends a lot of time addressing guest behavior (not all teens, BTW). While you do not see Security addressing these issues, I can assure you that Security is doing a lot more than guests realize. We also work very closely with Horry County Police Department (HCPD), in fact, we hire two HCPD officers in the summer to assist our Security teammates to address the behavior issues you mentioned. Our Security Manager, Cedric, would love to speak with you, and our VP/GM, Greg, would also be happy to speak with you! Please call and ask for Cedric or Greg, or email us at info@oceanlakes.com so we can forward your message and they can contact you (I have forwarded your review). We understand family vacations mean a lot - we want every guest to have a good experience, and we encourage them to reach out to us and speak with a member of our management team. So often the people that call and speak to our leadership have a new perspective and understanding and are glad they called (unless they were one of the guests that got in trouble with Security). Best wishes, Steve, we hope you and your family will return again in the future.
