My family stayed here for a ten day vacation. We have a 42’ Class A motorhome bus with slides we vacation in quite often. We chose this place because it seemed like a nice place for our kids and it was very close to the beach. We always request a concrete pad and oceanfront or lake front where we are. We were given a site within a short distance from the ocean. On the map they all appear to be the same size so it wasn’t a problem. Upon arrival to our site we came to find this was one of the smallest sites in the campground. We had enough room to have our chairs on the concrete but our picnic table was literally next to the sewage line of our neighbor….which was directly behind our chairs! There was no room to park a vehicle so it was part way in the road in front of us. If we parked our golf car in our area we had no room for anything else. It was horrible to say the least! On top of this, there is no wrist band implementation, so nobody knows who belongs. The condo next door (Google that for an eye opener!) is well onto that and has teenagers climbing the wall to get in to wander the campground and use the amenities. On a windy day it’s as though the landfill let loose because you’ll be picking up garbage at your site from your neighbors. The beach is never combed so the same spilled snacks/cigarette butts from yesterday are still there today. And there are random fireworks set off every night until 11pm.
Some good points…the camp store has almost everything you need so you don’t have to leave. Prices there are very reasonable. On-site restaurant is great for lunch and ice cream. Coffee shop has some great options and sells ice cream as well but hours are 7a-11a so it’s pretty limited. Nature Center is excellent for kids and presentations are great. Dog park was very nice but not enough of them…there’s no grass for dogs to do their business!
I have stayed at some of the nicest RV resorts in the country and chose this as a quick getaway for my kids to enjoy. To say it will be my last is an understatement. It’s as if every hillbilly with a 1964 pull behind hooked up to their Ram and opted to try out “campin” for the week. They truly need to increase their prices a bit to weed out the garbage and increase the oceanfront site sizes and the rest will clean up itself.

We are so glad that you enjoyed many of our Amenities, and we hope that your kids had fun. Once again, we do apologize that the site was such a disappointment to you, we tried to move you and address your concerns. We truly want our guests to be happy! We understand how precious it is to take a vacation with loved ones. (Even if you think of those guests as “garbage.”) After your arrival, you emailed us about how unhappy you were with the site (an email very similar to your review). Concerned, our team promptly responded and contacted you with another site option (available due to a guest cancellation). That site featured a concrete pad, was larger (52x32), and was 5 spots back from the ocean. You declined the site. Please know that our team understands that guests want the bigger sites, and we are happy to help book them, if available. Our 859 campsites book by specific site number up to 18 months in advance. We WANT guests to know about their site BEFORE they reserve it (by phone or online). The exact site dimensions of your site (46x24) were given to you when you reserved site 2021 in October of 2021. TIPS: Our website does offer a 360-tour of each campsite linked ( with a YouTube icon) online from every campsite to help guests visualize the site/size/location. August is a very popular month, and the sites fill up more than a year in advance (we get some cancellations throughout the year). Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We wish you the best in all future travels.

First time visitors to this particular place in Myrtle. We generally go to PCB but wanted to cut our drive time in half this year and so glad we did! This place is wonderful for families, couples, and kids of all ages. They have everything you would want or need right there. Bring your golf cart or rent one on site and you will never have to leave the grounds your whole vacation. They have a water park, basketball, corn hole, volleyball, arcade, ice cream shop with food as well, an indoor pool location, a laundromat, a market, several lakes with fishing ALL ON SITE. Lots of lodging to choose from to meet everyone's needs. And let's not forget the golf cart high five parade on the strip every night, which is a must do as well. We rented stilt house #1507 on Neptune. It was a basic 3 bedroom 2 bath house. Had outdoor shower to clean off all the sand, laundry room etc. I did not like that linens were not provided as in sheets, pillow cases, dish cloths, and towels and washcloths. It was $170 for linen rental, or you have to bring your own. And even after paying that fee, it's left in a laundry bag for you to put on yourself. I feel if I'm paying that much, it should be done for me and ready to go when I get there. All in all a great experience and we definitely will visit again.

Thank you for trying Ocean Lakes and choosing Myrtle Beach this year! We are so happy your family enjoyed our campground and had fun while enjoying all our amenities. Ocean Lakes Properties does offer linen rentals for a fee based on the number of guests, beds, etc., or guests can bring their own. I will pass your comments on to the OLP team. We hope you and your family can be our guests again soon!

The campground is huge with tons of amenities! It is well maintained, and my kids loved all of the extras which included pools (indoor and outdoor), basketball courts, an arcade, putt-putt golf, and a large camp store just to name a few. Our only complaint was that at about 9:00-11:00 pm the campground morphed into a wild teenage party. They all drive up and down the strip near the ocean and throughout the campground (even cutting through the campsites) on golf carts like wild maniacs. Security did little to control or stop this. We called on the first night to report speeding golf carts, very loud music, yelling, and teen drivers cutting through campsites in our area (we stayed in section K) and we were informed by security that this was "kind of a rowdy section" and basically made to feel that this was normal, and things would settle down by 11:00pm when quiet hours start. While on the phone the above-mentioned teenage drivers proceeded to have a fairly serious wreck colliding with one another at the intersection. When we reported the accident that is when they sent security. They have a lot of rules posted about the golf carts, but security isn't enforcing them. It would be an easy problem to solve if they simply enforced their own rules. Security seems to be out and about during the daytime, but no where to be found at night when things get wild.

We are so glad you loved our campground and all its amenities! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your experience. We love to hear from guests and take their comments seriously. Thank you for sharing your concerns about teens, golf cars, loud music, and foul language. We share your concerns! You did the right thing by calling Security. I was disappointed to read how you felt after speaking to our team; I apologize. Our team cares immensely about these issues and has spent a lot of time (and resources) addressing them. Please know that guest behavior (from ALL ages) becomes more challenging each year. It keeps us on our toes! We have implemented policies and fines, and continue to modify them as we need to make it clear to our guests that we take their behavior seriously, and they need to take our policies seriously. We DO enforce policies but do not catch everyone. I apologize that you felt Security was not around to help; spring break time is challenging as our team is smaller (not an excuse). In March/April/May we are onboarding 350+ teammates (Security, Food Service, Lifeguards, Recreation, Housekeeping, Sanitation, etc.) for our summer season. I will pass your comments on to our Security leadership. The bottom line is that we are fining, trespassing, and responding to issues daily. Most of our guest interaction with Security is to smile and wave or ask directions because most guests are respectful to others, our team, and our policies. We ask parents to be parents, and guests to do what you did - if you see something, say something to our team! We hope to see you again real soon!

We stayed during tropical storm Debby and had a terrible experience. Granted OL cannot control the weather but they could atleast make the experience manageable. Every time we went to use the amenities at the pool there was excuses. We were told that if there is lightning or thunder around in 5 miles that it wouldnt open. Another time it was 10 miles. One person went as far as saying it wouldnt open all week. Each person said something different. The time was always extended an hour to where we stood around waiting for it to do so. Much of our time was wasted and the kids were left disappointed. I understand the safety aspect but I believe either it was taken too far or there is another issue. We went hours with zero storms on the radar within the specified distance. Large crowds gathered in front of the pool gate only to be told excuses and led on. When we stayed last year in April the pool was closed most of the week due to "staffing issues." It seems like a trend here at Ocean Lakes.
We also thought that the "rules" are a bit restricting and get more intense every year. As adults we felt locked down while younger kids/adults ride around on golf carts blaring music and yelling. One example, a late night we decided to get food delivered to the front gate. We had been stopped twice by security and once at the main gate and advised next time to take the car. Clearly in the rules from what we saw, it was perfectly acceptable to do such if you had a destination. We were not joy riding or causing trouble, simply getting food. Borderline harassment if you ask me. The consuming alchohol only on your site is also a bit harsh. Maybe simply asking guests to cover your can or simply put it in a cup would be a better solution. Security seems a bit high strung all carrying body cams and some even having body armor. What's the need? Felt more like a prison than a vacation.
For these reasons we will likely not stay at Ocean Lakes again after several years of coming. We are simply not getting the amenities we are paying for. We felt so ripped off that we decided to spend or money at another location extending our stay in Myrtle Beach.

John, our team understands that a vacation is precious, and we want it to be an amazing time. I apologize that your family’s experience here was such a disappointment mainly due to the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby. The weather-related policies that close pools include lightning strikes detected within 10 miles, and wind or heavy rain that impacts our Lifeguard’s ability to see the bottom of the pools. These policies are critical to the safety of our guests and teammates. I am sorry that someone misinformed you about the lightning distance. If it is just raining, the pools may be open! Also, pool closings are not just weather, while no one wants to think about this, guests (especially kids) often have accidents in the pools, and we must close the pool for cleaning and filtering according to SC DHEC standards. This happened at least once or twice after we re-opened last week. What is the best way to know that the pools are open? Our two webcams overlooking the pools are the best way to monitor our pools after a temporary closing. We understand that everyone does not agree with our policies, but they do not share our perspective. In May our team enhanced the longstanding Quiet Hours (11 PM – 7 AM), with two curfew policies (Midnight to 5 AM) due to the behavior late at night. We also removed “movement with purpose” [sadly] because way too many guests abused this policy. Many campgrounds, businesses, and municipalities have curfews. We want kids (of all ages) and golf cars off the streets by Midnight. These new policies received overwhelming support from our guests, and they have assisted Security teammates as they strive to provide a safe, family-friendly environment. Security can more easily identify potential problems and monitor our campground. Yes, they may have stopped you, and I assure you, they were not picking on you, they stopped (or spoke to) any guests out after Midnight. John, you shared that your family had been staying here for a few years and we appreciate being the campground you loved to visit! Enduring a Tropical Storm or Hurricane on vacation is not what anyone wants as a vacation. Please know that our team and our campground have 53 years of Hurricane Season experience. We keep our guests in mind as we are forced to alter our operations for the safety of our guests (and our teammates who live here and have families). Our VP/GM, Greg, would be happy to speak with you, he can be reached by calling the Main Office at 843.238.5636. We hope you will reconsider Ocean Lakes and truly wish you and your family the best in all your travels.

My family and I—my wife, our three daughters (ages 12, 10, and 8), and my handicapped father—traveled all the way from Los Angeles, California, to experience the Atlanta coast and South Carolina for the first time. After hearing wonderful things about Ocean Lakes Campground from my sister-in-law, who has vacationed there for the past three years, we were excited to join her this year.
We carefully planned our trip, booking a home at the campground for our stay from August 10-17. The property owner provided us with a code to access the home and assured us that she was just a phone call away if we needed anything. The journey was smooth despite traveling with children and a senior, and we were warmly welcomed by our family when we arrived at Ocean Lakes. The experience exceeded our expectations, from the beautiful beach to the activities like golf cart parades, ceramic painting, and arcade games. As founders of a Christian organization in California that provides free eye care services to low-income families, my wife and I found this vacation to be a much-needed time to unwind and recharge.
However, our positive experience was marred on the final day of our stay. After picking up a rental car from the airport, I returned to the campground to retrieve our luggage and family. When I approached the front desk to request a car pass, I explained that we were checking out and needed to gather our belongings. Despite having three hours left before our check-out time, Melissa, who was called in by another employee, informed me that our rental home was "not registered" and that no one should be staying there. Her explanation was unkind and confusing, especially since this was our first time at Ocean Lakes. I believe any registration issue should have been taken up with the owner, not with us as guests who had already paid for the stay.
She instructed me to get a 20-minute pass from the front gate, even though I explained that we needed more time to pack and prepare for our departure. At the front gate, I was informed that I would be charged $15 if I exceeded the 20-minute limit. I agreed, knowing I needed more time, but was told that payments couldn't be made at the gate. After receiving the 20-minute pass, it took us about two hours to finish packing and loading our belongings. During this time, Melissa called me, accusing me of taking advantage of the pass and threatening to have me cited for trespassing if I didn’t leave immediately. She also informed me that I was banned from purchasing any further parking passes or returning to the property. Her tone was accusatory and disrespectful, making me feel like a criminal.
I felt racially profiled, as we were one of the few Hispanic families at the campground. Melissa's treatment made us feel unwelcome and embarrassed, overshadowing what had been a wonderful vacation. When I went back inside to retrieve my license and pay the fee, Melissa completely ignored me, further highlighting her lack of professionalism.
I am bringing this matter to your attention in the hope that it reaches the appropriate person. Melissa needs to be retrained in customer service to prevent future guests from experiencing the same distress.

Thank you for choosing Ocean Lakes. Like you, we are upset that one encounter overshadowed a flawless stay that EXCEEDED YOUR EXPECTATIONS. You had a super experience here with your family that included fun family activities in our oceanfront campground. I forwarded your review to several members of our management team (including the VP/GM, Main Office Manager) and the teammate whom you mention, Melissa. First, let me be clear, it had nothing to do with race but everything to do with our policies and procedures that have been in place to secure the property of our homeowners. We cannot grant guests access to the home if the homeowner does not have the guest (you) on the list for that day. Sadly, the circumstances made this situation more difficult; your access to the campground had expired because it was departure day. Your reservation was a private transaction with the homeowner (or their property manager) limiting what we can do. The homeowner could have had other guests scheduled to arrive. Melissa was trying to adhere to the policies and explain the situation. I apologize if she seemed, or was, rude and like I explained, your review was sent to management. We truly want all guests to have an outstanding experience and our team to assist our guests in a friendly, helpful manner. The conversations that occur at the time can be frustrating to both parties – you just want to finish your vacation, and we are held responsible to the homeowners and know what can go wrong if we grant access at the wrong time. I am very sorry the issues with a late departure overshadowed your experience here.

Our home was damaged during hurricane Helene and no date for power to be restored so we decided to come to ocean lakes with our family to be somewhere safe and we were not to happy. The sites are super small and when we came to the office to extend our stay because we had no where to stay we asked about a discount for the night and the guy basically laughed at us and said this is ocean lakes we don’t give discounts as if they are gold or something. Anyway went over to Lakewood and they deeply discounted our nights stay. We’re not trying to be cheap just wanted to stay somewhere safe until power is restored and our home is fixed without breaking the bank

I am so sorry your family was impacted by Helene and are glad you are safe. I forwarded your comments to our VP/GM and Main Office Manager who was aware of your reservation and spoke to the team. We are glad you were able to find a place with more sites available. During October we are nearly booked full so only the smaller sites meant for tents or folding campers would be available. I do hope and pray that you can restore your home quickly with minimal expense. Continued thoughts and prayers for WNC.

I think we were lucky and got there before the rush of spring break because there didn’t seem to be a lot of people there. But overall, we had an amazing trip. It was close to a lot of amenities of Myrtle Beach like restaurants, shops, and activities for kids like Boardwalk at the Beach. The water park wasn’t open but the kids enjoyed the pools, arcade, the basketball area, and playground area. The beach was easily accessible and it was nice that we could park the golf cart right at the entrance. We expected things to be closed due to the time we went (late March) but we’re pleasantly surprised when there was a lot for us to do. We are planning our next stay with my extended family and planning on going later in the summer!
We stayed in a VRBO condo which was amazing because we could save money on eating there and washing our clothes throughout the trip. The houses/condos are beautiful on the property and most of them are well maintained.
We loved that there was 24hour security because it was our first time being there and you never know who will be your neighbor! It was a nice campground feeling along with an all inclusive resort.
Can’t wait to get back there!

This campground is way too large! The swimming area is jam packed, there are thousands of golf carts everywhere, you can't even get out of the driveway because of all the golf cart traffic. The golf cart costs $500 a week to rent, you have to rent one to go to the beach and swimming area because it's too far to walk, but once you get there, you can't find anywhere to park be cause there are so many people there! I will never ever stay in this place again!

Season and site location can impact guest experience. We apologize that our summer crowd caught you off guard. We do want you to be our guest, and we have many months of the year when the weather is great, and the park is much more mellow and relaxed. We are a large oceanfront campground and like many beach destinations, summer is very busy and crowded. We feature one mile of oceanfront property and more than 2 acres of pools. Over the years, families have embraced the golf car to transport their family and beach gear. Our team is happy to assist you with finding the right site and season!

Unfortunately, the people who work at the gate and inside the facility are rude, unhelpful and not accommodating. Such a surprising disappointment for a family place! Not a good experience. Apparently they make some visitors pay to get in and others don’t have to - “it’s a subjective decision by the person working at the gate” - this is what we were told. This just seems really strange and judgmental.

This was our first time at Ocean Lakes. The house we rented through the Ocean Lake services was really dirty. After a couple times walking across the living room floor his socks were black on the bottom. Quite gross. There was obvious dirt and grim in open corners of the room. We also had to rewatch dirty dishes in the cabinets.
There was a sign on the fridge that told us not to drink water from the faucet. We had to bring gallon jugs to a water station for drinking. Some friends told us he water stinks.
Overheard some home owners talking about hiding cameras in the house to check on the renters. Very creepy and illegal. We didn't find any but weren't every really sure.
The water park is far too small to enjoy. The park has obviously outgrown it. We were told there was a curfew. You weren't supposed to drive the golf cart after 11 PM unless you were going somewhere with an end point. Heard that some renters had to pay $5 a day to park the car in the driveway.
For the price we don't think we would return again.

We usually try to get there on Sunday or Monday. A lot of folks leave on those days and it may/or may not be less crowded. After Memorial Day, all bets are off. They stay fairly full until after Labor Day. July 4th week, if you don't have a reservation, you may not even get in. We try to make our plans 18 months in advance. Good luck!
You should be fine walking on the beach in the early morning hours. Quiet time is more directly related to the activity in the campground. There is a cruise strip along the ocean front and a lot of golf carts "cruise" back and forth giving high fives, playing music, etc. It's a lot of fun but it's literally like NYC at rush hour! They close the front road off so cars don't interfere and it is safer for everyone. Security is very visible along the "cruise strip" and at 11 pm they shut it down. Again, security is always visible throughout the campground and if you are out and about on foot or a golf cart after 11 they will not hesitate to stop you and make sure nobody is up to no good. This is a fantastic place and I'm sure you will enjoy!!!

Hi there! You can have them delivered to the Main Gate for you to meet them with the groceries. Due to insurance requirements and liability, any delivery person/company needs to be on the Authorized Vendor list that shows they have the right insurance and they would have a badge to go through gate. Anyone conducting business that is not on the list would just meet you up at the 15 minute parking area adjacent to the Main Gate. See ya soon!
