The Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina offers a mixed bag of experiences according to guest reviews. While its location garners praise for being close to various attractions, there are concerns about room quality, including cleanliness, maintenance, and dated decor. Visitors have enjoyed the hotel's atmosphere and entertainment, but some found the noise disruptive.
The service and cleanliness receive varied feedback, highlighting responsive management but also issues like slow restaurant service and inconsistent room upkeep. Detailed Reviews
We stayed 2 nights at Harborside at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina. Overall we had a very nice stay. The setting is beautiful. The resort is right on the water. Guests have many opportunities to be outside enjoying the scenery. The style of decor is coastal and well done with the choices of furniture, nautical colors, pictures on the walls and huge crown molding - it’s all really beautiful. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly. The Fish House restaurant (on property) also had an excellent staff and delicious food. We would HIGHLY recommend the Roasted Grouper! The downside we found in 2 or the three rooms were were in was needed maintenance. Lightbulbs that were going out and had a strobe effect, a shower handle that was in desperate need of replacement, and a heater that was so loud we actually had to change rooms. We couldn’t even hear the tv much less sleep that night. For the price paid per night we felt these items should have been discovered by their maintenance crew. If the hotel doesn’t keep up on the room maintenance they will definitely lose guests. However, the front desk staff was very accommodating finding us a different room due to the heater issue.

At the time of booking, there was not any COVID changes posted to the website. (They mysteriously appeared the day before our stay ended...) I even called and ask about accommodations/amenities and no changes were mentioned. We attempted to book spa services, but were unable to book couples services. In addition, they spa was unable to accommodate our preferences. Upon check-in, we were not informed that housekeeping is not currently running. We actually had to take our own trash out. :( In addition, the "refrigerator" in the room is a wine cooler and was not working correctly. Our trip plan included in-room dining for at least a couple of meals, but again, we were not informed that this service was not available until we called to order. :( The coffee/tea bar in the morning was one of the most lame I have ever seen. This facility has the space and resources to provide more options for guests while keeping things COVID-safe. We just felt like it wasn't a priority to them. When my husband shared these concerns with the manager, we were given a $150 room credit. (our stay came to $1200) This isn't really enough of a credit to make us want to stay at The Beach Club in the future.

The resort has an amazing location. Overall we liked our stay. There were some annoying and unsatisfactory service issues. We stayed for 4 days and there was no daily or even single cleaning. Per resort agreement the daily fee included such services as coffee and tea, free shuttle transport, daily newspaper, and similar. None of these services were available "due to COVID". It is not clear why rooms could have coffee but not tea; or why there would not be an open air trolley shuttle when golf carts were operational. When I asked for newspaper and paper napkins, the initial answer was "no". Later napkins were left in front of our door. No newspaper though.

This was our second visit to this hotel. We enjoy the location, pool and overall experience.
It’s within walking distance of the Yorktown which is a great experience to tour (air craft carrier). It’s also close to our favorite spot - Shem Creek where you can hire kayaks, paddle boards, boats and tours as well as a great choice of bars and restaurants. Mt Pleasant also has lots of shopping and dining options.
The marina also offers a water taxi to downtown Charleston or you can Uber for around $15 - $25 depending on the time. Pre COVID the hotel offered a free shuttle which understandably has been suspended.
With regards to COVID I feel the hotel gave the guests every opportunity to be socially distant, encouraged face masks and had several sanitation stations. As ever it is very much up to individuals on how well it is adhered to.
My one downside was room location, we were directly behind the elevator and in ear shot of the ice machine which meant any late night use of either awoke us from our slumber. FYI we stayed in room 302.
Will we return - absolutely BUT will ensure I’m a little more prescriptive of my room location.

I overlooked the other reviews that mentioned cleanliness and I shouldn’t have. The finishes are cute - extensive crown mounding and baseboard mounding to give that Charleston-y feel, but the upkeep wasn’t great. Much of the baseboards had clearly taken a beating, the carpet in our room was dirty, the bathroom door didn’t close all the way because of poor design planning. Got locked out of the pool even though my room key worked because of a mechanical error with the door. Overall, this is probably a great place for young 20 year olds but too unkempt for me to feel comfortable. Little details are the difference between somewhere feeling clean and somewhere feeling dirty and it felt dirty. It feels like they don’t pay their cleaning or maintenance staff because the attention to detail was nil. I MIGHT stay at Beach Club in the future because it seemed more updated and clean but I will not ever stay at Harborside again. I did have an appreciation for their location and access to amenities like the water taxi and large pools but I’m not sure it made up for me avoiding being in our room.

Stayed here 6/4/20-6/6/20. Will not stay here again:
Couldn’t check in for a couple hours due to computers were down. They “upgraded” us to the Suite in rm 242, Sumter Suite. Nice thought but the room was covered in Sheetrock dust. We could write our names on the walls and the silver doorknobs were white with Sheetrock dust as well as a healthy spread of it on the floor. We did not complain as we were not going to be in the room much. But suffice it to say, looking back, we should have. Obviously the cleaning that is supposed to occur to help prevent the spread of coronavirus did not happen, otherwise the Sheetrock dust would have at least been cleaned off of the doorknobs. We did tell the staff at checkout about the issue.
The fire alarms In the room were also bagged and taped, I assume to prevent the Sheetrock dust that was all over the room from getting into the fire alarms.
When we left, I forgot to check the closet and left 2 inexpensive items of clothing. When I called back to retrieve the items, they were not located, so obviously housekeeping took them.

The room I reserved was a Harbor front room. Upon checking in I was given a pool view room and told there were no harbor view rooms available and that my rate could not be reduced. After speaking to 3 different associates, I was finally put in contact with the manager who also told me the rate couldn’t be reduced but he would wave the “resort fee” which at the time seemed acceptable to conclude the matter. After settling in and looking around at the room, it was clear that the resort isn’t nearly as nice as the pictures show which is extremely frustrating. The “half glass” stand up shower was uncomfortable to shower in and the water pressure was non existent. Upon checking out, the bill that was supposed to have reduced charges was still full charge and took extra time and 2 additional employees to fix. On the bright side, the shuttle to downtown was very convenient and the Fish House restaurant had extremely good food and service. To charge $350/ night (including roughly $100 in resort fees) is unbelievable for what you receive in return. Needless to say, I will not be staying or recommending this resort to anyone. In my opinion, this resort is not equivalent to the stars it boasts!

DO NOT STAY AT HARBORSIDE!
I have stayed at The Beach Club Resort before and was very pleased; however, this time we stayed at the Harborside at Charleston Resort a try and was completely disappointed. The staff was great; however, the room was not up to par. The room was not as clean as you would expect especially since we are in the mist of a pandemic. The floor in the bathroom definitely needs to be steam cleaned as the grout is very dirty. The bathroom also had dirt and hair in the corners and the metal shelving in the bathroom was covered in rust. The carpet in the room had stains and the AC never cooled below 70 degrees. We arrived by boat for a weekend getaway with friends and checked-in after a long day of travel. After arriving later than expected we showered with only cold water so we could make our dinner reservation downtown. We called the front desk to report this issue and when we returned from dinner there was a note in that bathroom that told us the faucet was installed backwards and to only turn the faucet a little to get hot water. You would think for the cost of the room you would definitely not have a faucet that was improperly installed. Overall, I was not impressed with the hotel and would not stay at Harborside again, but will consider The Beach Club for future accommodations. The Fish House was not staffed appropriately and we waited a while to receive our drinks as the waitress who had multiple tables was also the bartender. She told us that they did not have a bartender on and she had to do it all. She was a very nice person but was running around like crazy to get things done.

The rooms had working problems, the shower water was so hot it could only be tolerated for a few seconds or it was cold, there was no in between. The towel rack kept unbolting from the wall despite maintenance fixing it. My biggest issue was housekeeping, rooms were not made up by 5:00 or not at all, and requesting to have the room cleaned was pointless. The staff said "We'll send someone up!" No one ever came. The AC units have wall water damage and were so loud they kept waking us up and upon check-in, rooms weren't ready even an hour after check-in time.
The pools were fine, no complaints there except they never had enough towels. They did have free ice cream bars and smores for the firepits. The general areas of the hotel felt a little dated. If you have kids, there's no food options before 1:00 (unless you want to pay $$$ at Fish House). The Reel Bar does have chicken tenders and pizza, but it doesn't open until 1:00.
I would have given a higher rating, but I shouldn't have to chase the hotel staff to get our rooms made up or get help with the extreme hot water issue making showering near impossible.

Well, let me preface this by saying it was July 4th weekend we heard that Patriots Point was the place to be on the 4th of July and that is why we picked this location. So we knew we would be paying a premium but at $400 a night even with holiday rates you would think the rooms would have been sleep worthy.
Pro's: Location, Water Taxi to Charleston, 10 Min to IOP and SI. Great Pool area and bar. Pub food not bad. The fireworks for July 4th were awesome and there is a lot to be said having your own private pool area and bar to watch them.
Cons: We booked a non smoking room and right from the time we moved in it smelled like someone smoked in the room. Then I discovered the restaurant exhaust fan was directly below our window. Which had a view of the parking lot and the trash dumpster. When we complained about it they sent a guy with a can of lysol. When I asked to be moved they said they were booked solid. The A/C would cycle and then when the fan shut off you would hear a loud "Bang" this kept me up every night. I went to the little lobby store and they didn’t sell ear plugs. I had to go to Walmart at 2 am to find some. The AC was never fixed. The parking was a joke. people were parked on the grass on the gravel anywhere they could fit their cars it was such a state that if we wanted to leave we were worried to take our car because there was no guarantee that we would have a parking spot when we came back. So if we wanted to leave we paid more money to use Uber. What is up with the resort fee...... what was that for? Save the insult to the cost of this hotel and just lump it into the rate.
I complained and all I got was I am sorry. At the end of our stay is said we were checking out. The front desk person said oh I am sorry to hear that. She thought we were checking out early. I guess that was what others were doing. When she asked how was our stay I told her just terrible I told her about everything that happened and asked for the manager. She said they would not be back for a little bit. I waiting a half hour and there was no manager. Again when I finally told her I had to go all she would say is sorry. I asked if they would at least waive the resort fee and she said the manager was the only one who could authorize that. Next time we go to the Charleston area we will stay somewhere else especially on a holiday weekend.

There are designated smoking areas throughout the property. I did smell someone smoking on their balcony, but I don't think it's allowed.
I thought it was clean. Staff was low though and not fully staffed in the spring
