This is a unique site to enjoy the quiet of a riverside park about an hour outside of Charleston. It's a very low intensity day; easy to park; probably should call ahead and verify what's open when. The gardens are very nice anytime of year, the overlook on the TailRace canal is a beautiful site to hang out and enjoy...

Powerful worship and quiet peace for the soul. The monks were gracious and hospitable!!! The grounds are well kept and the retreat center has a wonderful library with relaxing music in the background. If you have experienced stress in your life and have found a need to relax, reflect, and re-center then this is the place. Call in advance because...

This beautiful exhibit is a wonderful way to usher in the holiday season. There are outside displays along garden paths and a large collection to view inside the library. Space is tight in the library so be prepared for a line and a waiting time. The crèches are from all across the US and other countries. It is an outstanding...

Mepkin Abbey was originally a plantation, where the main crop was rice--- to a hunting lodge---Before it was donated to the Trappist Monks, it was my husbands' and his brothers & sisters play ground. My husbands father was a saw mill operator and was hired by Claire Booth Luce, who owned the plantation at that time, to thin out the...

We were in town from Michigan, visiting family in Summerville. We read Mepkin Abbey was dog friendly. Unfortunately, we were turned away by a mean-spirited woman. She made several rude comments at us, because we had dogs. She kept saying just leave your dogs in the car or just leave! It was over 90 degrees, with extreme humidity that day!!!

We saw the gardens and gift shop. We didn't do a tour due to timing, but will go back. Such a peaceful garden setting on the water. A short drive from Monck's Corner. 2 Sculptures of tree trunks, 2 cemeteries, well tended grounds. Very peaceful and beautiful.

Mepkin Abbey is so worth the hour drive feom Charleston. A monestary near Moncks Corner, it is serene and beautiful. Take the tour which is $5.00 per peron, the grounds are wonderful to walk and the history is interesting. On the tour you can attend a brief prayer services with the monks. The gift shop has neat items. Probably not...

The trees on the grounds of the Abbey are huge. They must be very old - extremely large trunks in a variety of shapes and of Very interesting designs. The grounds are well maintained and it's a quiet, peaceful place. Arrived too late and missed the guided tour. The church is nice. The sounds of the bells chiming are majestic.

I almost don't want to write a review in the fear of people finding out about this great Abbey. It's scenery is beautiful and so quiet . It's a great place for a private picnic or just a get away from the hustle and bustle of Charleston. The grounds are immaculate and the trees are magnificent. I feel truly at...
