Abingdon Manor provides the only luxury accommodations in the Carolinas or Georgia close to interstate 95. The Inn is listed by AAA as a “Classic Country Inn” and had received the prestigious Four Diamond rating for fifteen consecutive years. The property, on the National Register of Historic Places, was built at the beginning of the 20th century as an opulent private home and, while now an Inn, retains the feel of an opulent private residence. A member of Select Registry, Distinguished Inns of North American, Abingdon Manor is ranked among the best Inns in the country. Located in a residential section of the historic district in the charming village of Latta it is just 25 miles north of Florence. The Inn is halfway between New York City and Palm Beach as well as Washington DC and Jacksonville, Florida and it is just 5 miles east of 95. Purchased by Michael and Patty Griffey from Miami, Florida in 1995 to operate as a luxury Inn, extensive renovations, decorating and landscaping have turned this magnificent building into a refined, elegant setting for travelers. The seven guest rooms in the 10,000 square foot building insures privacy, peace and tranquility. The award winning restaurant, The Dining Room at Abingdon Manor, also rated Four Diamonds by AAA, provides fine dining nightly, with full liquor and wine listing. At a fraction of the cost of comparable properties, the Inn offers the discriminating traveler looking for upscale accommodations a particular value.

Detailed Reviews
My wife saw the review of the AMI&R in one of her fancy magazines. Since we were driving back from FL to NJ, we thought:'Why not?" Last time we drove, we stayed at Hampton Inn and "ate"across the street at some really lousy chain restaurant. Boy were we glad to find AMI&R. Warm welcome from Michael who was very careful re Covid (e.g. Temperature and Oxygen levels). Oh and one other thing, they have an arrangement with a couple who board your cat or dog for a very modest fee in their own home.
Lovely southern structure with period furniture and very comfortable public rooms. Our room was quite nice with a king size bed and very nice bedding. My wife was ecstatic with the towels (she even took a picture of the labels) that we will now have to purchase for the FL home.
Cocktails in the lounges with each room in a separate section or room. Fireplace was going so that G&T hit the spot in a very comfy sofa. Dinner was excellent. Five course meal carefully prepared by Patty (wife/chef/owner). Excellent wine list.
Went back to the men's parlor with the last of my wine to sit and chat by the fireplace.
Our room was very nice. Michael indicated that the bathroom was scheduled to be refurbished (good! make sure you install soundproofing as one can hear the ablutions of our neighbor in the middle of the night.). I echo a prior guest's recommendation as to the earplugs. Not one, but 4 or 5 trains passed through Latta. The trainman was horn happy too.
Breakfast was stunning and worth the visit. So there you have it fellow travelers. Stay at the AM&&R on your way to and from FL. It's 8 1/2 hrs each way. So very convenient. You won't regret it.

Wow what a great review of your stay. We are so glad you found us and we look forward to seeing you again on your next trip through our area. The grounds and outside areas are beautiful in the spring with lots of places to enjoy a gin & tonic in the gardens too.

We have stayed at Abington Manor a number of times, because it is a beautiful historic inn with welcoming, accommodating hosts, and food that is beyond compare.
This spring, traveling to Massachusetts, after four months in Florida...with coronavirus haunting everyone...we chose to stop at Abington because we trusted Michael and Patty to provide the most meticulously safe refuge we could find along the way.
We were not disappointed. A welcoming refuge it was ... clean, careful, and comfortable with an amazing dinner and delightful breakfast served in our room.
If I were you, I would go for all the reasons mentioned, but especially to meet the innkeepers and to enjoy the food. Patty is a truly amazing chef.

Looking for a stopping point on the hectic way northward on I-95, we found this property and it seemed to hit all the notes for us: historic property, charm and good food and drink. We were not disappointed and as our stay was superb.
Mike greeted us at arrival and provide a brief history of the property, guided us to our room and made us feel very welcome.
Cocktails were served at 6:30p with dinner at 7:00p. The six course fixe prix menu was delicious, lovely presentations, served by friendly, attentive servers, and boasted a small but very nice wine list. We enjoyed a Margaux.
Our room was the Hunter Room. It was clean, very comfortable, sizable, well appointed and served us well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stop. We look forward to the opportunity to return and enjoy this lovely manor and the gracious hospitality of the hosts.

At the height of Covid19 living terror, we found Abingdon Manor to be the epitome of reassurance that CDC guidelines are strictly followed. The elegance of fine dining in our room even made social distancing slightly romantic for these weary travelers. Well-appointed details, quiet, and comfort rejuvenated us for the second leg of our 1500 mile trip home to the Adirondacks.

We stopped at Abington inn on our way north based on recommendations. The inn was very nice and were very careful in being cautious with COVID-19. The rooms were very nice although some were renovated others not. I would call to inquire before booking. The food is excellent as they have a cooking school. We had a delicious breakfast but missed out not booking their six course dinner. The quant touch is the ear plugs for the trains that go through and blow their whistles at night. I would recommend but plan ahead as there are only 7 rooms.

Five thumbs up for the gem of an inn for all travelers along 95 (and others). This was our first visit and we loved everything about it – a perfect place to stop as we traveled back to New England during this COVID crisis. We were greeted by one of the owners (Michael) as we arrived, taken to a spacious guest room with all the necessities you could ask for and then served the most delicious five course meal (kudos to Patty, chef extraordinaire.) Breakfast was another taste treat. All this while feeling entirely safe and protected from the coronavirus and all the surrounding upheaval as we escaped Florida. Never have we had such an enjoyable evening traveling up and down the 95 corridor or for that matter traveling anywhere. We will be back.

Quite simply our favorite B&B after our first stay. We stayed in the Master suite which was spacious and comfortable with both a tub and shower. The extra window air conditioner was used as well. Breakfast was delicious each day with multiple juice choices, fresh, ripe fruit, code and something hot, freshly prepared by someone who knows what they are doing. The best, however, was the six course dinner. Some portions were smaller, but at 6'3" I still left reasonably full. Wine selections were remarkably complete for a small venue and I liked what was selected for me. Add in friendly owners and staff and you really can't do better.

I’ve thought for a long time about this review as I want to be objective. The physical plant is quite nice. Clean spacious room and nice common areas. The owners attitude and the food were not acceptable. I had told them about my wife’s food issues and that she had the same entree(salmon) for dinner and lunch the day before. At first the hostess said she would try to provide something else, but never did. The salmon at dinner was awful. A thin dried out piece with a few tasteless vegetables and some bland rice. A roll was provided but when I asked for another I was told there was only one per person! Asked for salad with no dressing but came dressed and again, no other one was available. Tablespoon of soup and sorbet OK. Dessert-breadpudding OK but couldn’t have coffee or tea with it as we were told they were only served in the parlor. Overall dinner, $84pp was at the level of school cafeteria. Breakfast worse! Only dish besides some barely acceptable fruit salad was quiche; after telling host we don’t eat eggs. No toast, cold cereal, yogurt, etc. Finally after asking they served us 2 “crescent rolls.” Not even real croissants. The hosts should stay at a Hampton Inn to see how breakfast should be served.
Checkout was “cold” without any offer to help with our bags.
Don’t know if this was their usual way of treating guests but I did notice that the host interacted with other guests in a more friendly manner. Quite simply we were made to feel “tolerated” not as valued guests.
I would avoid this property at all costs!

This country inn is a terrific break from a two day drive from the northeast to Florida. The inn lives up to expectations and the dinner is worth the trip in itself. Patty is quite the chef and we enjoyed the meal immensely. The entire staff is very conscious of covid precautions and we felt safe and cared for the entire visit. We look forward to staying at Abingdon on our return north in the spring.
