Hotel is generally clean and willing to help with questions. BUT...My family and I were hesitant to come because of COVID but we looked at hotel’s information about COVID policies-face masks required when walking around, staff cleaning common areas, closures of activities and decided to trust in Marriott. What a joke! In a 4 hour period, I saw one staff member wipe some common areas by the pool and she was not wearing gloves and using the same one rag to wipe everything in the area. Hardly any guests are wearing mask or being told by staff to please put the mask on while they’re walking around the hotel. All the handsanitizers in common areas have been empty for 2 days. Bar area is never wiped down between customers. Insane. I wasn’t paranoid about coming here and getting sick but I can’t believe how so many people don’t care and the staff are not looking out after those guests who do care about public safety. It would be helpful if staff reminded guests about masks when walking around hallways, public areas, inside public areas.

We have stayed at Barony Beach 4-5 times over the last 20 years, sometimes just our family of 4, and others reserving 2 villas to accommodate family or friends. We have thoroughly enjoyed each visit, from the multiple pools & jetted tubs to the proximity to the beach to the fine golf courses nearby to the more recent on-site restaurant by the pools. The property is beautiful, with shaded “porch swings” spread throughout, activities for young and old, beautiful landscaping, & well appointed villas. One disappointment was a year that our villas were in the garden section tucked back away from the beach. Some may prefer the quieter location that seems to suit families with small children better. Another highlight of this resort is the ability to rent bicycles on-site. Many wonderful trails snake through all of Hilton Head, including Port Royal Plantation. I will disclose that I am a Marriott Vacation Club member, but this had no influence on my review.

We stayed here for one week during the COVID pandemic. Marriott did an excellent job with social distancing and asking people to wear masks. Staff wore masks always. The pool deck was cleaned constantly. Only one family was in the elevator at a time. I was a little worried before we left for this trip, but I felt the resort handled it well. The pool did get crowded in the afternoons but otherwise you could find space. The pool music was sporadic. It would be nice if they played it all the time or not at all. And the music selection was weird. Play music from Bob Marley instead of Steve Winwood. Really the music was just a small detail because everything else was very nice. We used the grill area and it was great. A staff member was right there ready to light it for us. We loved the slide in the pool. Walking the beach was great. We would return to this resort in the future.

This hotel was outstanding and exceeded my expectations. Due to COVID, I had to change our vacation plans twice, and Hilton Head was our third choice and this was our first time visiting South Carolina. I was lucky to get a hotel room at all as the property quickly sold out. I loved staying here so much, we would love to come back every year. First->COVID. South Carolina has unfortunately gotten a bad reputation for its handling of COVID and its rapidly increasing cases. This hotel however has done right in regards to COVID precautions. Every staff member we passed, whether inside or outside, was wearing a mask and usually gloves as well. Our check in process, they only allowed one person per family in, and had clearly cleaned everything after every interaction (such as the credit card machine, pens, etc). They had wipes everywhere->such as by the pool (all 3 of them) so you could wipe down the pool chairs, by the elevators so you could wipe down the luggage racks. They also had hand sanitizer everywhere->within the elevator, by the pool entrances. It was very much appreciated. The property: it's quite large and there's tons to do. There's three pools, three hot tubs, shuffle board, ping pong tables, foosball tables, and cornhole. They didn't have the additional daily activities due to social distancing concerns in these activities, but there was so much to do, I wouldn't have had time for them anyway. That being said, I look forward to a future where they have those activities again, it it something to look forward to in planning a vacation to the property next year. The pool in the garden area was designed for children, with a nice sized slide and also a separate splash area; it also had a well designed shallow area for little kids. This pool emptied out pretty well unlike the other pools by the later afternoon and my husband I and I enjoyed a swim in a empty pool after being at the beach all day. Pool was warm (but not too warm) and quite enjoyable and refreshing. The room->wow. We had a 2 bedroom corner room. Up to date furnishings, very comfortable, large, outstanding kitchen with plenty of cooking supplies, large fridge and freezer, and a dishwasher. They even had a washer and dryer and they supplied laundry detergent and softener. No housekeeping service the week we were there due to COVID which is what we wanted anyway and we think it is the best thing to do to help stop the spread. Our room was located in the garden area, 7-10 minute walk to the beach, but really it wasn't bothersome and it did not impact our love for the property. If anything, we liked being further away from the other four buildings as it was quieter at night and things like the ping pong table, grills etc. were always open for use. The bed was a little bit harder then I would like, but this is one of my only complaints. Beach->fantastic. They supply beach chairs and umbrella for a fee, but we brought our own which was perfectly allowed as well. large beach area especially and the water was so calm for half of the week, very warm especially for ocean water, and had smaller waves for the other half of the beach. Lots of fish, birds, also saw dolphins. Beach felt very safe with its calm waters and also had a nice lifeguard presence. However, walking along the beach, going to the left you immediately hit private homes, which meant the beach was almost empty for at least a mile. It was so nice to take this quiet walk on the beach every day, big bonus with the location of the property. Walking to the right was more populated hotel zone beach. Also, you can ride bikes on the beach which is pretty unique in my book. Property location: fantastic. Easily accessible for all the tourist sights and also for many restaurants. Nice midpoint so everything easily accessible yet our location was nice and quiet. I especially loved the bike path that you accessed immediately from the property. I loved the loop around the block and it was a short ride to Chaplin park which was also great trails to ride around. We rode our bikes 8 out of 9 days. You can rent bikes if you don't bring your own We had such an outstanding vacation, we honestly didn't expect to like it as much as we did. We are now looking at Marriott properties in general and plan to specifically return to this one either yearly or every other year.

Had a wonderful week with the family at Barony Beach. Had some concerns relating to the Covid situation, but were cautiously optimistic that Marriott would handle the situation in the most professional way. We were not disappointed. Property did a great job with social distancing and cleaning overall. The Barony is an especially great location in this time, as it allows for social distancing on the expansive beach and since much of the beach to the South of the resort is residential, it allows those that want to spread out the option. We had a great time enjoying the pools, riding bikes around the island, and of course taking walks and bike rides on the beach. Can't wait to return.
