I truly enjoyed my stay here. It was my first time staying and I was impressed. The staff was awesome. Family-friendly atmosphere was great. Minimizing the guest and time at the pool was great. Amazing hotel.
Let's face it, there is no compelling reason to select one roadside hotel over another. Loyalty points? Location? This Drury Inn was comfortable, not very noisy and the coffee was good. Stay there if you can get a good rate. It is immediately adjacent to Interstate 85 and my room looked right out on to the interstate, but otherwise there is nearby shopping and places to eat.
Drury Inn are always very clean and the staff are helpful. The pool was definitely cold this time and the jets were very weak in the hot tub. There was also never towels in the pool area. Both times we had to go ask the front desk for additional towels. The food was not as good as it typically is in a Drury Inn. I think COVID may play a part in this since the way the breakfast is served is different but it was the same all three days. Usually there seems to be a bit more options. Overall, for the price it was a great deal. Due to COVID they aren't cleaning rooms unless you ask. We did ask and they still didn't come up to the room. When we came down and asked for the trash to be emptied, they did come up and do that.
We normally stay at Marriott hotels and we'll continue doing that after our terrible experience at Drury. Here are the issues we experienced during our stay - 1. Requested a crib/pack n play when making the reservation online. Asked the front desk staff at check-in about it - she said she had no idea where any were but she would go up and down the 7 stories of the hotel to find one and then she would bring it our room. It never showed up! We brought a 2nd pack n play to take to our family's house for naps during the day. We ended up having to fold the pack n play up everyday to transport it to their house then fold it up again to bring back to the hotel at night - what a hassle! 2. We had a 2 room suite and there was no air conditioning/heat in the main room. The air did not travel from the bedroom to the front room at all. It was RIDICULOUSLY hot in the main room!! Good thing we all slept in the bedroom. 3. No luggage rack to be found upon check-in or check-out. My husband specifically asked the front desk staff about a luggage cart at checkout only to be told "sorry". He also brought up the crib issue - with another response of many excuses and then "sorry" - never an offer to make things right or compensate us for the issues. After this, my husband happened to see a maid using a luggage cart for dirty laundry (yuck) and she agreed to let us use it. We took the chance of using a cart that had dirty linens on it to avoid making 3 trips to our car to load luggage. 4. Ice machine was out of order on our floor. Since the elevator was very slow, we had to climb up 1 floor to get to an ice machine. Fortunately, that's where my husband ran into the maid with the dirty linens. 5. Elevator was super slow - had to use the stairs nearly every time we were coming or going. 6. No room service during our stay and had to ask for fresh towels. 7. Dog barking in the room next door to us. And there was an incident of dog feces in the stairwell - yuck! 8. Felt unsafe - lots of sketchy people were hanging out at/around the front entrance.…
We arrived 2 hours after check-in to a lobby full of unmasked people. After waiting 30 minutes in non-distanced line, we were told there were no rooms available at that time, but they would call when they had one. Keep in mind - we had a reservation! After another 30 minutes, we canceled and went to the Westin Downtown. I would never recommend or try this place again - too many options for this level of service!
