I am from Florida and discovered Grenville by accident, In fact, this is such a fantastic city, I will be back again and again! Greenville has a very clean & safe downtown, so I chose the Westin for its awesome location. It’s a very old and very beautiful hotel. It offers top notch - 4 star service and anything you need is available at the hotel. Valet for your car ($20), luggage assistance, room service, concierge, hotel bar and restaurant (no pool). The lobby is gorgeous and a relaxing place to chill out (piano bar at night). I didn’t eat in the restaurant, but ordered room service from there and the food was amazing. In fact, the best room service food I’ve ever eaten!! I stayed in one of the suites, which was roomy, cozy and clean. The bed was soft, the shower was large and having 2 rooms to hang out in was perfect. The hotel is in the smack dab middle of town, with so many places to go and see, that are all a quick walk away (rent bikes for the swamp - rabbit trail). Finally, it was the friendliness of the staff that really made my visit perfect. They were all so kind, heartfelt and willing to help with anything. I have never felt more welcomed at a hotel! The service was a 10, during a time that good customer service is hard to come by. Take care of your staff Westin - they are truly what makes your hotel so great! Mahalo!

Wonderful location and beautifully historic. We especially loved the Spoonbread breakfast—the staff was excellent, friendly, and accommodating! We will definitely be back and highly recommend the Westin to anyone visiting Greenville.

Pros would definitely be location and staff. Each and every person we interacted with at this hotel were amazingly friendly and helpful; the best, most consistent customer service experience we have had at a hotel. The only real cons we experienced were an unfortunate testing of the fire alarm our first night and the small shower in our room. The hotel has added a very nice rain shower head but the tub is just too tiny to make it practical.

Dear guest, We sincerely appreciate your kind words about our team and the service they provided. Thank you! We apologize for the fire alarm being disruptive. As to the tub, allow me to suggest requesting a room with a shower the next time you are staying with us; you might find that layout more practical. We look forward to seeing you soon again!

Our visit to the Westin Poinsett was a lovely one for an anniversary. It is an older hotel, but that is the charm. It has a very interesting background and many of the original attributes of the hotel atmosphere have been preserved. It was a refreshing change from the loud music and harsh lights of some of the newer hotels. We had read about the customer service at the Poinsett and chose it specifically for a special occasion. Although we did enjoy our time there, the customer service was not top notch compared to other hotels. There were times when guests were at the front desk waiting for someone to come out to help them. Although the people at the front desk were cordial, they didn't go out of their way to answer questions or provide anything extra. We found out that many of them were new and I guess hadn't learned the importance of great customer service. Janice (the concierge) is another matter entirely. She is wonderful and made our experience there for this special occasion top notch. Janice knows the history of the hotel and took us on a private tour, showing us interesting things and sharing little tidbits of knowledge. She made reservations, suggestions and was the best representative of what customer service should really be like. Also, the bellman at the door were friendly and smiling each time we came back to our hotel. Parking is right next to the hotel, but it's difficult to find a spot sometimes without going up multiple levels and then riding the elevator back down in the parking garage. That wasn't a problem once we figured out the lay of the land. $7 for parking was very reasonable and we felt safe in the parking garage. The piano bar was extremely enjoyable with appetizers and drinks in a casual setting, reminiscent of bygone times. Very relaxing and great food. We ate there for our evening meal one night and plan to go back when we are in the city. Breakfast in the Poinsett restaurant was delicious and moderately priced for the amount and quality of the food. Service there was again "so so" but we enjoyed dining there once for breakfast. There is also a little coffee shop a few steps from the lobby that has very reasonably priced items, some apparently made in the Poinsett restaurant. Grab and watch the people go by or take back to your room. Most (maybe all) employees had on face masks as did some of the guests but we did not wear them. Common areas seemed to be cleaned periodically. Housekeeping did a wonderful job with our room. We did ask for it once during our stay and they were prompt and left the room extremely clean and tidy. The reason I didn't give the Poinsett 5 stars was the "so so" customer service (other than Janice) that was a little surprising based on other reviews. There are other high end hotels in the area that are less expensive, but visiting the Poinsett is definitely something everyone should do at least once.

Dear guest, many thanks for your detailed description of your recent stay. I am glad that you generally enjoyed the look and feel of our historic hotel; but, I am, at the same time, disappointed that our service was not as impressive as you could have rightfully expected. Service is generally a strength of ours and I will remind our team to be impressive every day and with everyone. We hope you will try us again at which time we will be more convincing. Many thanks again!

Based on reading the reviews here, you would think the Westin Poinsett in Downtown Greenville is a fantastic hotel. After a two day stay there, I think it is a fine hotel, probably the nicest in Greenville, but it is nothing too special. The hotel deserves a lot of credit for not making COVID-related excuses for service. Housekeeping is available and they ask you at check-in if you would like it. They also offer real room service — very impressive these days. There is food available overnight as well if you are willing to pick it up at the front desk. Seems more than fair. I found the staff to be friendly and the location is great, in the center of Greenville, within walking distance to pretty much everything. There is $7/night parking in the attached city parking garge and they have a decent gym with a Peloton. My biggest issue with the Westin Poinsett is that it is old. I mean really old. Some people might find that charming, but I do not. They have clearly over the years invested money updating the property. More is needed. My room was oddly shapped with only a tiny window near the bed. The carpet was stained, the baseboards beat-up. The elevators are tiny. There are lots of stairs to climb to get from the front entrance to the lobby. It’s just clearly a hotel built in a different era. And that’s okay, they just need to keep investing in it to keep it up-to-date. The bed was comfortable and the wifi fast. There was good water pressure and the A/C worked well. As I wrote above, it is a fine hotel. Is it that much better than the new more limited service hotels all over downtown Greenville? It all depends on what is most important to you.

Dear guest, We thank you for taking the time writing this detailed review. It is true, we are not a “typical” Westin hotel as nearly all of them are sleek and modern. Instead, we have restored this classic hotel to its original beauty in all public areas (lobby, bar, restaurant, ballrooms, etc.) and completely rebuild all 200 guest rooms. This is why you have fast (and complimentary) internet, a good working AC and strong water pressure. Our location in the middle of Greenville's historic downtown cannot be beat and the parking for $7.- a night is very reasonable. But, as you pointed out correctly, it is all a question of personal preference. Thank you again for staying with us; we are glad that, overall, you seemed to have enjoyed your stay.
