Have stayed here in past and it was great. A year ago we prepaid for a room with a late arrival and when we checked in we were give a key to a room with people in it; came across that the clerk took someone's cash and gave them our room since we hadn't checked in. The morning of check out we told the clerk what had happened just so she was aware - we asked for nothing. She was training a new manager so she gave us a gift certificate to come back. That was March/April 2018. Fast forward to October 2019. Stayed with my daughter and when we checked in she told the clerk we had the gift certificate. Our room was okay but the bathroom had bugs and hair all over it. It was 2:00 am and I was in no mood to deal with it. Checked out the next morning and tried to turn I the gift card and was told room was charged to my card. Asked for manager, one not on site. Left name and number, never got a call from the manager. Called corporate and told them what happened and asked them to have manager call us. Never happened. Fast forward to March 15-16. Checked in no problem using gift certificate, clerk was nice and professional. Went to our room. AC was making noise like something was wrong. I turned it off and on a couple of times and it stopped. Daughter took a shower and the tub was very slow to drain. Late evening dogs barking while the guy in the next room yelled at his kid. One of the pillows fell off the bed between the wall and A/C unit, cleaning staff wasn't cleaning this area. Got up the next morning and I showered. Got to stand in 3" of water as I showered, drain still not draining. Checked out and told the clerk about the A/C and the drain. She acted like I was doing her a favor by telling her. Not very friendly or sociable. Went to put a few pails of ice in my cooler just enough to cover our ice tea cans, so maybe 4". Clerk comes out and starts telling me I can't put ice in my cooler. I get home Sunday night and Monday I hey an email survey. I fill it out honestly with what I just put her. Tuesday I get a phone call saying that I've been put on the Do-not-rent-to list. I ask why and told that "we can't make you happy." I explain everything that happened and that I didn't think I was being unreasonable because the drain and the A/C should work. She proceeds to tell ask me why I gave her a '1' on service. I explain that I had no problems with check it, that lady was nice. It was the check out lady who was rude. She proceeds to tell me that she was the check in lady that night. She also proceeds to tell me that I have reservations for this coming Friday. I said no, those were cancelled. She informed me they weren't, nut she would cancel them because the won't rent to me now. So I call corporate. Come to find that franchises, like this, violate the do-not-rent list rather than fix the problem. And it was clear the clerk was annoyed because of my honest answers on the survey. Told customer service that on Thursday night we were at the Days Inn Wytheville, clean room, great service, mediocre breakfast. Friday at Motel 6 Carowinds/Fort Mill, the Saturday at the Comfort Inn Hillsville with great clean room, pool, wonderful service and great breakfast. That after three different nights at three different hotels I would not go back to the Motel 6 again just because of the rudeness in the staff. Oh, and the clerk who was going to cancel my reservation did not. My guess is so that she could charge me for it for holding the room and not showing up. Not sure what's going on at the Carowinds Motel 6 but it's gone down hill!

We stayed at this property on the return portion of a road trip with our dog. Unfortunately our stayed coincided with the NBA all-star game in Charlotte so we had issues finding a hotel with any vacancy in the area we had originally planned on staying in Rock Hill, but every dog friendly hotel we checked was filled. Which brought us down the highway to The Motel 6 Fort Mills. The only room available was a smoking room, so I expected some cigarette smell, what I didn't expect was the strong odor of marijuana that permeated that side of the hotel. When entering the back exit door we also encountered several people openly smoking pot and an unlocked door. No need to use the card swipe just pull the handle. While on the topic of security our room door had clearly been kicked at some point and was cracked down the middle, the lock mechanism was loose and missing screws because of the crack. The room was dated though did have vinyl flooring which is better than carpet.

DO NOT BOOK HERE First booked through booking.com they couldnt find my reservations I had guests who drove three hours and we did too Suppose to have three rooms near each other did not was told we was lucky to get any three. Cost me double per room room bathrooms was dirty asked them to clean them was told they had already been cleaned refused to clean again. Asked for extra towels said I couldnt get them I said we did not want service til we checked out they came in room anywaywhile we was gone. Had to spend 30 more to buy cleaning suplies and clean myself. The smell of weed was over powering the whole weekend. Sounded like a bowling alley above us all night long. Was asked by a bunch of shady guys where was the rooms with the hookers at. Thought we worked there. All other hotels was booked so we had no choice but to stay there. 10 oclock on day of check out maids was beating on doors saying they needed to clean checkout time was 11. Horrible experience and total embarassment in front of my guests. Also no internet connection.

DO NOT BOOK THIS MOTEL! I have never before written a negative review of a property, but felt compelled to do so now as a public service. I do not expect a Motel 6 to offer exceptional customer service or amenities; that would be unreasonable. The poor level of service I received however was inexcusable. Upon attempting to check in, I was told my reservation was not showing up. I produced my confirmation on the app of a major booking service to show that prove that I had indeed prepaid for the room. The lady at the desk then told me they had been having trouble getting bookings from that major booking site for the last few weeks. Instead of straightening it out in a professional manner, she told me that I had to call the booking site and straighten it out with them. Clearly the management is aware that a problem exisits, but has not made an effort to resolve it. She also said to re-book it would be at a higher rate than I had already paid. This does not even take into account the rude and dismissive attitude she had through our entire transaction. Thankfully, when I talked to the site representative he was able to refund me, and book me into an adjacent (and infinitely better) hotel at a similar rate to my original booking. The desk clerk at that hotel informed me that I was far from the first guest to arrive after the Motel 6 did not have a room they had previously booked. So, unless you want to be spoken to as though you are a great burden to the employees, and take a serious risk that there will not be a room waiting for you upon arrival, avoid the Motel 6 – Carrowinds at all costs!
