We loved our stay here for two nights in September. They have beautifully restored this property, it is in a prime location on the Battery walking distance to most everyhting. Love getting the charm of a beautiful 1800’s home versus a sterile hotel. Staff was amazing- accommodating but not in your face all the time. We stayed in the Wine Cellar room which was very quaint and perfect for us- do note that it has no view from the room and there is a dehumidifier used because of its location and well it’s the south. We will be back!

I loved my stay at 20 South Battery. The historic mansion has been beautifully restored and tastefully furnished with furniture from the period. My room (#1) was located on the first floor of the carriage house which offered a quiet location overlooking the gardens in the rear of the house. The staff (Abbey, Susan and Josh) were all very attentive and helpful. Two highlights of the stay were enjoying coffee and reading a complimentary newspaper on the front veranda overlooking Battery Park and enjoying the complimentary happy hour in the ballroom and living room each afternoon. It was a beautiful stay and I look forward to returning!

This was our 3rd visit to 20 South Battery and it will not be our last! They made sure every detail of my 40th bday celebration was special, from champagne on the balcony, to wine and cake cutting in the ballroom, to mimosas in the morning. My friends and family and I felt treated like royalty by Abby and her staff, as they carefully attended to every need and wish. We stayed in the pringle frost lather suite and the room and service were impeccable, even including local snacks and drinks! I adore everything about this place...the history, the charm, the decor, the wine, the breakfast....but most of all the southern hospitality of the staff! This is the classiest place in Charleston to stay, hands down.

I and my wife stayed 12/23/2022 through 12/25 inclusive. I should first point out that Charleston had record low temperatures which led to plumbing problems all over the city.

The positives: the location could not be better, the staff were very good. Molly in particular gave us a good house tour, and gave service above and beyond when we had to change rooms due to aforementioned plumbing setbacks.

The house is not staffed overnight, and this contributes to an overhwleming sense that one is staying in a museum, not a lived in B&B. Thus breakfast is ordered in, and is a rather spartan experience. Our first room, before we had to move, was too small "to swing a cat", was desperately cold, with inadequate heating. We later discover a chink between the floorboards that contributed to the cold. Our second room was a suite, and was spacious and much warmer. The rooms are very modern and the contrast between ultra modern rooms, and genteel nineteenth century decor was a bit stark.

In summary I would say that we would have done better at a B&B and that the price was too high, but the house could not be better placed and certainly has some interesting antiques and furniture, but those items lacked a certain harmony.

I thought the first visit was amazing. This time was even better. It is truly a dream come true to be able to enjoy a historical location we once only dreamed of entering. There were more amenities available this time and we were blown away at the increased quality. Only the most kind and courteous staff and guests at this perfect retreat of peace and quiet.

Amazing experience at 20 South Battery!

I don’t think I’ll ever stay at another hotel in Charleston again after my wonderful experience at 20 South battery . From the moment you’re greeted at the front gate, it feels like you’re staying in an old friend’s home, that is if your old friend owns one of the most amazing historic mansions in Charleston. Every detail in the mansion is superb, with all of the furniture being of the period and no expense spared. It truly is a special place, and the service was so personalized. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and the location perfect for strolling off on foot to explore the shops of King Street. If you are fortunate enough to visit while the owner is there, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the 5 o’clock cocktail hour with Jack, a born and raised Charlestonian who has stories for hours. Each room is unique - there were 7 of us who occupied rooms there and we all had a splendid time! We even had a business meeting in the grand parlor (they rolled in a flat screen for screen sharing). The inn manager, Abby, took such great care of us. We will be back!

If you like living in the basement then this is your place. Mayflies in the bathrooms, no usable furniture except a bed that’s great if you don’t mind sleeping in the middle. No room service , stale cheese at the wine and cheese hour. No access to the house after 9 as you are renting a room in a museum. The 24 hour cafe consists of 3 booths and a Keurig machine. From the outside the place looks awesome. Inside the rooms are very contemporary. Tile floors, no carpet or rugs. The old style entry door to get in is very narrow. Missing door latch made room unsecured.

We truly loved our stay at the 20 South Battery! The renovations were exceptional, and the hotel could not be more beautiful. The unique opportunity to stay in an 1840s Charleston mansion was amazing. The hotel includes original rooms, with a private garden in the backyard for guests. The nightly complementary wine and cheese reception on the porch was so lovely after a long day of exploring the city (and the staff was kind enough to offer a top us off!). We were also given a full historic tour of the home from the hotel manager, who was very knowledgeable about all aspects. We will definitely be back!

I surprised my wife with a delightful overnight getaway for Christmas. I meticulously made a reservation at the exquisite Carriage House. The staff made sure to keep us well-informed by sending several informative texts on the day of our arrival, ensuring a smooth check-in process.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a remarkably helpful and highly professional staff member named Ryan. The mansion itself is a sight to behold, evoking the ambiance of a captivating museum. Our room was impeccably clean and wonderfully peaceful. Despite the unknown number of guests staying at the property, we were pleasantly surprised by the absence of any noise from neighboring rooms.

Regrettably, I mistakenly booked a room with a queen-sized bed, which proved to be a bit uncomfortable for me as a larger individual. Consequently, my wife and I did not sleep as well as we had hoped. However, the breakfast served directly to our room was a delightful culinary experience, boasting delectable flavors. Additionally, the provision of complimentary bottled water, canned beverages, and a variety of hot drinks at the café truly added to our overall satisfaction.

The only slight drawback worth mentioning is the abundance of ambient light in the room at night, emanating from the air conditioner, television, clock, and external sources. This surplus of illumination can make it somewhat challenging to drift off into a peaceful slumber. Rest assured, I have already devised a solution for our next visit – a sleep mask will surely come in handy.

Where is parking for this Bed & Breakfast, is it on the street at your own lucky to get a spot risk?😀
Answer from Twenty S
Charleston, South Carolina
Good Morning! There is free street parking right in front of our Inn. If this is full, Free street parking is available all along Water Front, in front of White Point Gardens; which is about a 3 minutes walk from 20 South Battery.
