Travelers' Choice
A luxury escape in the heart of downtown Charleston, The Dewberry borders historic Marion Square and is just steps from the shopping and dining on King Street, Museum Mile and The Gaillard Center. Offering 155 thoughtfully appointed rooms, world class service and unparalleled views, The Dewberry occupies the former L. Mendel Rivers (circa 1964) federal building and pays homage to Charleston’s midcentury architectural splendor. The hotel is the result of owner John Dewberry’s vision of “Southern Reimagined,” which he developed over the course of an eight-year renovation and preservation of the building. Guests will enjoy several event spaces, the nationally celebrated cocktail program at the brass bar in The Living Room, high quality, ingredient driven dishes in Henrietta’s brasserie, the whimsical rooftop lounge Citrus Club and treatments using seafaring ingredients and lowcountry botanicals in The Spa.

Our stay at The Dewberry exceeded expectations in so many ways! The staff was extremely accommodating, professional, friendly and genuine. The Charleston Flat was worth every penny. The views, room decor and tub are amazing!! We will be back!

The hotel is beautiful. Great location. Walking distance to the center of Charleston and great restaurants. However, the service was terrible. Absolutely not something you expected (or paid) for a 5 stars hotel. The first night my wife and I had a reservation in a restaurant for New Year eve. We had 40 minutes to kill and decided to go to the hotel bar for a drink. The rooftop bar was closed due to rain, which left us only the lobby bar. The hostess told us that she could sit us at a table outside. She only needed to clean it off. Seeing that the rain as let up some and considering we only had 40 minutes to kill, we agreed. In the 10/15 minutes it took her to clean up our table, a line formed behind us. When she came back, all of a sudden she told us that she could not give us our table because there were five parties ahead of us and we would have to wait 45 minutes or more for a table (basically the time we were trying to kill). It was blatantly obvious that another host had just spoken to her to arrange for the people in line behind us who were sitting at the rooftop bar before it started raining to be sit at our table and at some other tables that freed up while we were waiting. It was insulting and unprofessional that she lied to us and just made us wait to give our table to someone else. Poor service of the lobby restaurant was not a New Year eve anomaly because service at breakfast the next day was inattentive. On the other hand, service at the rooftop bar was great, beautiful view and lovely drinks. Valet service was helpful and courteous. The person at reception when we checked in was nice and helpful. However, the person at checkout was rude and discourteous. Overall disappointing at a five-star hotel. We will pass the next time in Charleston.

Our recent trip to the Dewberry was our first time traveling in almost a year. The hotel was festive with holiday decorations, and the proximity to King Street is perfect. Our flat was stunning...beautifully and comfortably designed... and sparkling clean. The bathroom was spectacular with a soaking tub, large walk in shower and double sinks. Comfy bed and exquisite furnishings...every amenity was perfect from the robes and slippers to the lobby morning coffee service. We were thrilled with the level of hospitality, attention to COVID protocol, and attentive service. Everyone here was friendly, helpful, polite and engaging...we can’t wait to return soon. Thank you so much to Rob, Suzanne, Chris, Chris, Jaime, Tyler, Greg and Ross for making our trip so fabulous.

Our family spent two enjoyable days in Charleston, and our choice of The Dewberry made it even more special. It has an old hotel feel that includes all of the modern amenities, and the staff/service was just excellent. We will return, and would recommend to others.

Fantastic stay. Could not ask for more. Service was beyond exceptional. Plan on definitely come back. The stay was a celebration surprise from children. Visited Charleston several times but the service received from the Dewbury meets all the expectations of that southern hospitality
