A luxury escape in the heart of downtown Charleston, The Dewberry borders historic Marion Square and is just steps from the shopping and dining on King Street, Museum Mile and The Gaillard Center. Offering 155 thoughtfully appointed rooms, world class service and unparalleled views, The Dewberry occupies the former L. Mendel Rivers (circa 1964) federal building and pays homage to Charleston’s midcentury architectural splendor. The hotel is the result of owner John Dewberry’s vision of “Southern Reimagined,” which he developed over the course of an eight-year renovation and preservation of the building. Guests will enjoy several event spaces, the nationally celebrated cocktail program at the brass bar in The Living Room, high quality, ingredient driven dishes in Henrietta’s brasserie, the whimsical rooftop lounge Citrus Club and treatments using seafaring ingredients and lowcountry botanicals in The Spa.

Hotel was thoroughly clean, and impeccably furnished and decorated--felt like a Wes Anderson film location. Our room was large, had a separate seating/living area, and overlooked Marion Square. We found all staff to be very friendly, thoughtful and helpful. The hotel has taken many health and safety precautions in regards to management of COVID-19 spread, which made us feel safe, but, at the same time, we were able to still feel like we were in a luxury hotel--the precautions were not overbearing or intrusive in regards to our experience. The rooftop bar offered fantastic views, but forgettable and expensive drinks. Hotel is in a great location, just a short walk from King Street, and within easy walking distance to many of Charleston's great attractions.

I highly recommend a visit to The Dewberry Spa with Ms. LaShea. She is amazing. There have been a few excellent aestheticians in my 30 years of visits, but she is the best, and an added benefit is her kindness. The property is lovely and well-maintained. The staff at The Dewberry exemplify excellence in customer service in the hospitality industry. They are second to none. A few of the employees who made our lives more enjoyable: Chelsea and Dimitri in The Living Room, Dwight the Bellman, Tyler the Valet, and Greg the Front Desk. The staff exudes Southern hospitality, charm, and helpfulness. Impressive! Things to know: The food is good/acceptable. The Grand King has a beautiful, massive bathroom. In the sleeping area, the space between the bed and dresser/TV is narrow, making the room appear cramped.
