A luxury escape in the heart of downtown Charleston, The Dewberry borders historic Marion Square and is just steps from the shopping and dining on King Street, Museum Mile and The Gaillard Center. Offering 154 thoughtfully appointed rooms, world class service and unparalleled views, The Dewberry occupies the former L. Mendel Rivers (circa 1964) federal building and pays homage to Charleston’s midcentury architectural splendor. The hotel is the result of owner John Dewberry’s vision of “Southern Reimagined,” which he developed over the course of an eight-year renovation and preservation of the building. Guests will enjoy several event spaces, the nationally celebrated cocktail program at the brass bar in The Living Room, the whimsical rooftop lounge Citrus Club and treatments using seafaring ingredients and Lowcountry botanicals in The Spa.

The Dewberry is first class in every way. We were welcomed and the front door and directed to the check in desk, where we were offered dewberry juice (who knew?) Our room was beautifully appointed, and had every amenity. The rooftop lounge is a must” what a view!!We would definitely stay here again.

Our time at The Dewberry could not have been any better. Parking was a breeze and the location was easy to access. Our room was beautiful and of course the views from the rooftop bar were stellar. Food and drinks at the bar were top notch as well, but I have to say the star of the show was the service. Each and every employee we encountered - from the valet to the host to the front desk clerks and of course our waitress - treated us with such kindness and a genuine appreciation for our stay. We felt like the employees really like their jobs and it showed.

Thus is a nice, charming and not chain owned hotel. The service was impeccable - front desk, concierge and Living room staff were fantastic. We stayed in the Charleston flat room which was very spacious. The fragrance of the hotel is delicious and cascades to everything - candles, toiletries, soap. The sandalwood tones are still dancing in my nose :) All of that said, room furniture and overall decor could use some updating which is probably very difficult in the pandemic era. I think that given the challenges imposed by the pandemic, this hotel is truly raising to the ocassion.

The Living Room restaurant and room service, we’re consistently out of menu items. No chicken for days. Only whole milk. Got bill before food. Over 30 min wait to get food and/or even a waiter. Never return.
