Historical part of town. Short walking distances to many sites, including the market. Lovely room and decor with outstanding breakfasts. Courtyard is peaceful and maintained with fountains and fauna. The veranda is an excellent spot to relax after a day of sightseeing and shopping. Secured premises. Our host and manager, Donna House, is attentive, personable, and makes sure everything is perfect. We felt right at home the minute we stepped inside the gate!
My wife and I were looking for a quiet, cozy and intimate escape in downtown Charleston to explore the cityfor the first time for our Honeymoon. This place hit the mark in every way. The manager was incredibly accommodating. She made a delicious breakfast every morning (and even let us use her washer/dryer in a pinch). Being there for the holidays with its southern charm was an extra special perk. The location was great - we felt like you could get anywhere you needed to go by foot. It felt like a personal and quiet private escape in the middle of everything. We can’t recommend it highly enough and would stay here again in a second if we make another trip down from DC.
Exceptional bed and breakfast in the heart of beautiful Charleston! Enter a private courtyard with fountain, and you're immediately greeted with historic warmth in an intimate setting. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and wonderful amenities were provided - champagne was chilled for our visit! Our host Donna was amazing, she took such good care of us, creating the most delicious breakfasts in the morning and providing us with fabulous restaurant and local must-see recommendations. I wish we could have stayed longer, and we will definitely be coming back again!
We were so lucky to have been able to snag a room at 27 State Street Bed and Breakfast! Charming, Charming, Charming! We only had two nights here and wish we could have stayed a little longer. 27 State Street is located in the perfect spot in Historic Charleston. You can walk to shops, restaurants, water's edge, art galleries and historical sites. But, yet, it is tucked in on a quiet street. Donna, the hostess extraordinaire, was simply the most wonderful soul. She went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The breakfast on the veranda was so so special! The room was cozy and had everything we needed - even a sound machine:) Just want to thank Donna for taking such good care of us. I had taken a tumble on my first night there and Donna rushed right over from her residence and brought me all the medical supplies I needed. Thank you Donna!! We CANNOT wait to make a return visit working around availability at this wonderful B & B!…
Just completed a wonderful 4 day/3 night stay at 27 State Street B and B. Cozy and intimate setting with only a total of 3 guest rooms. The caretaker Donna was special. She was intent on insuring we had an enjoyable stay. She coordinated dinner reservations and gave us several other tips to maximize our stay and see the best of Charleston. And she prepares mouthwatering breakfasts that guests get to enjoy right on the veranda. Our long weekend was simply fabulous. If anyone is looking for a unique travel stay in a perfect location to enjoy the French Quarter look no further. Clean and well equipped we lacked for nothing during our getaway. Hope we get to return back from our Chicago area home...
Fabulous b&b with unbeatable service. Homemade breakfast on the veranda each morning was a treat. Steps away from art galleries, shops, cafe’s, restaurants, and yet tucked away from the action. 10/10!
My husband and I stayed at 27 State Street while getting our daughter settled into college. Our experience was wonderful. Donna is the ultimate hostess and is full of information about the area. She made dinner reservations for us and her choice was spot on! The inn is within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and tours yet is on a quiet street. A charming courtyard greets you with gas lamps lighting your way in the evening. The rooms are well equiped with everything you need.... even champagne and ice cold water await you! The rooms were very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Donna makes an exceptional breakfast that will be a highlight of your stay.... trust me! My husband is still raving about it! We are so happy to call 27 State Street our home away from home when we go visit our daughter!!…
My wife and I stayed at 27 State Street on our honeymoon, 25 years ago. To celebrate the quarter century mark, we returned and were blown away. The location can't be beat. We were in walking distance of ... well ... everything. They knocked the basic things out of the park -- the room was clean, breakfast was amazing, the setting incomparable. More than that, Donna was the perfect hostess, making us fell welcome at every turn. She was a fountain of information and offered suggestions and help in planning our daily itineraries. We informed her one morning that we wouldn't be having breakfast the next morning because of an early-morning excursion. We came back to our room the night before our event to find that Donna had laid out a (non-perishable) breakfast for us to enjoy the next morning--unexpected but very much welcomed and appreciated. I really can't imagine staying anywhere else in Charleston. We're very much looking forward to our next trip.…
Wonderful experience! Donna’s breakfast menu was delicious! Breakfast was situated on an idyllic second story patio with French press coffee etc. very romantic. The rooms were classic Charleston, exactly what we were looking for! Perfectly situated downtown in Charleston with easy access all over town.
What an amazing stay we had. We ended up being the only guests the whole weekend and were terribly spoiled. We had three days of the most mouth watering breakfasts you could imagine: fluffy Belgian waffles, airy 4-5 inch tall, fresh from the bakery quiche, and pancakes to die for, as well as fresh fruit with each plate. I must forget to mention the lovely setting - 27 State Street itself is simply divine. We had our choice of the two nicest rooms in the house and both were gorgeous. I very highly recommend a stay at this historic bed and breakfast in the heart of Charleston’s old downtown!
