We have visited Charleston many times over the last twenty years. Our stays have included the Harborview, Market Pavilion, Renaissance, and others. This property was, beyond any doubt, our best experience. Upon arrival we were greeted by one of the excellent butler staff

My husband and I stayed here in August 2018 for a long weekend in Charleston. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We loved having breakfast served in our room each morning. My only complaint would be that since I was pregnant at the time, I would order a mocktail from the

Dear "reeveskaitb", Thank you for writing this 5-star review of The Spectator Hotel! We are glad to hear that your stay with us a few months ago was to your liking, as we thank you for your kind words about our inclusive breakfast and friendly staff. We also appreciate your feedback on our bar service and pricing, as there are always things we can work to improve on; your point about the mocktail you received is very valid. Upon checking-in all the way thru checking-out we felt like we were getting the run around!! When we checked-in we were put in a room that was not the room we booked, it was a lesser quality room! We went downstairs to reception and we’re told that it was the correct room.

Dear "HulaBoy81", Greetings from Charleston! Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback on your recent stay with us. I am very sorry that you did not have the best experience. There was a mistake on our website and we regret that this misinformed you. Additionally, we apologize for the miscommunication while you were on site as our team should have been more clear about the resolution upon your departure. That said, we very much appreciate you taking the time to speak with the members of our leadership team this past week to clear the air. We thank you for your understanding as while we made mistakes, these were not done deliberately or with any malcontent. We appreciate that you agreed to give us another chance so we can demonstrate our commitment to service. Thank you again for your time and we hope you enjoy the rest of your day! How do you tip the staff?
Dear "Nryan2008", My apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Providing a tip or gratuity is always appreciated in the hotel business and never expected. That said, there are some hotel positions that are more reliant on gratuities than others. These include food and beverage servers, bellmen, doormen, and valets. Resources such as TripAdvisor and Emily Post Institute provide travel/resource guides that list specific dollar amounts that are appropriate. However, feel free to be as generous as you like, if you feel that the service you have received is worthy of it. I hope this information is helpful! Best regards, Carlo Carroccia Hotel Manager

How do you tip the staff?
We tipped daily when a service was performed because there are different butlers at various times. What was impressive was that we never felt that a tip was expected, and as a result we were more generous than we might have been at other hotels.

I would suggest staying in the area of The Spectator. It is in an excellent location.. you will be within walking distance to all types of restaurants, the city market, tons of awesome shopping and will not get bored. The area offers many tours (walking, carriage and via bikes) and there is a little bit of something for everyone. My husband and I found that staying in a hotel in the city also saved a ton when it came to parking as well!
