Hotel's Favorite
We chose Zero George for its small size, beauty, isolated rooms with verandas, strict COVID policy, and location in the historic district. We agree with the positive reviews. Specifically, and to address some reviewers' issues: Contactless entry -- text/email confirmation the day before. Wte were escorted straight to our room and had assistance with our luggage. Immaculate, spacious room. We did bring our own pillows, but only out of personal precaution. Housekeeping is only by request -- not a problem. If we needed something (ice, trashcan emptied, etc.), the response was prompt. We enjoyed having a simple breakfast delivered to the room. Eating on the veranda was a relaxing way to start the day. Guests shouldn't expect an elaborate breakfast menu during these restricted times (though I'd suggest not chilling the waffle syrup). The complimentary wine and charcuterie was also an enjoyable treat late in the afternoon. We grudgingly accepted the valet parking as a part of staying in a city with limited parking areas. We walked everywhere in the historic district (and really appreciated the large umbrellas!). If we needed our car, it was brought promptly -- and the valet wore gloves! The highlight of our stay was the tasting menu dinner with wine pairing -- a birthday indulgence for my husband. We were seated outside on a veranda. The menu is one for those who enjoy small portions of creatively prepared food. Several reviewers mentioned the street noise. Yes, we heard the traffic while sitting outside, but we're used to that from home. I wasn't aware of traffic noise at night in our room. If you are very sensitive to traffic noise, you should request a room farther away from E. Bay St. For us the open layout and privacy of the veranda room was worth it. My only other suggestion would be to provide a brighter reading light. Even on its full setting, the bedside lamp was a bit dim. Perhaps there could be a brighter bulb or a reading light behind the corner chair.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the street are quieter, but the veranda rooms provide personal outdoor space.

My husband and I put a lot of time and effort planning our vacations and trips. Charleston is a very special place for us, so much so, that we had our wedding here at Cannon Green and had a romantic pre-wedding dinner here in 2015. Something has clearly gone caused a downhill trajectory. Off the bat, we were not welcomed very warmly. We dragged our bags up stairs for my husband to just stand in a room of 3 people at there desks, ignoring him for 10 minutes before finally asking if he could be helped. We were not informed of the construction in the restaurant or hotel in advance. The hotel claimed they did not have our contact information or the contact information of our virtuoso consultant. Somehow we were able to book a hotel without giving any contact information? Sure...... The room Our "upgrade" seems more like a downgrade. We are booked Z1 and got placed in C2. A room next to the road, which was great for noise, and facing a wall which made our room devoid of any natural light. And what little maybe we could have gotten would have been at the sacrifice of privacy because so other guests had to walk right past and could look directly. The guest above has been non-stop stomped around beginning at 4am each morning. Nothing, but water and Nespresso. The shower and sink and toilet has mold. Service We were tired when we got in and called to see if we could request coffee brought to our room. We were informed there was no coffee because the construction and we only had the option of the little Nespresso pods in our room. We inquired if it was possible to have our breakfast delivered in the morning as well, which was not possible, but we could enjoy the European style BUFFET in the designated room. Again, for this price point seems ridiculous. And to top that off, every morning, despite having our "Do Not Disturb" sign on our door, the cleaning staff came knocking at 9:30 each morning. We have stayed at small boutique hotels in the past and understand limited availability of both room and staff, but for this price point, we should not be made to feel like we are in a budget hotel.

Recently stayed here and while the grounds are lovely, the hotel leaves a lot to be desired in terms of service. We booked over Christmas holidays through Amex travel which includes benefits such as breakfast and a $100 food and beverage credit. Upon checking in we were told the kitchen would be closed for the entirety of our stay….a little disappointing since one of the reasons we booked this hotel is for the culinary experiences they’re known for. If the hotel knew the restaurant would be closed it would have been nice to reach out to guests for a heads up or lower the nightly rate to accommodate for this. In place of the $100 food and bev credit they a offered us a bottle of wine…my husband went to get one before heading to our friends house for dinner and unfortunately we could not get it as the wine closet had been locked and they were unable to reach the person in time. Once we returned to our room they had left the bottle but we were unable to enjoy it before checking out and the point was to share with friends….additionally all of the bottles were marked up around $60-75 but actually retail for much less. I would say that this was not a good use of the benefit. Breakfast was a literal joke…this is included in the nightly rate no matter if you book through Amex or the hotel directly but it was like the hunger games. Not enough food for all guests and guests were picking up the limited pastries and putting them back down so not COVID friendly at all. You could tell the staff was doing the best they could all things considered with COVID and the holidays. Overall I would say this was not worth the price paid but a cute hotel.

I had a great time staying at Zero George Street! From the moment we arrived we were greeted with wine, our room was ready early, and all the staff were wonderfully welcoming! I definitely took advantage of the Nespresso machine in the room, we enjoyed breakfast in the morning, and were close to everything for exploring! On the day we checked out, we had some time to kill between checkout time and the time we needed to be at our next destination- the staff was very helpful and held our bags after checkout for a few hours until we were ready to move onto what we were doing next! Highly recommend!
