At the end of the day, it was my fault for thinking "enough time has passed, go ahead and stay at NotSo Hostel". My first trip was a nightmare and this was not much better, if not worse. See, NotSo Hostel has one thing going for it: the location and price. However, those are mutually exclusive: the price for downtown Charleston is good. Remove the location and the price is absurd for what you're getting. Their clientele and staff are cranky and rude. The amenities leave little to be desired. You won't have a comfortable night sleep. The manager, Victoria, is the absolute worst. She is insanely rude and defensive should you have any issues or concerns--so don't expect to be helped at all. You're paying around $70/night for a HOSTEL. Let that sink in. Like I said, the location is the only thing this place has--otherwise it would be overpriced garbage. And Victoria knows that, which is why she couldn't give two hoots about the people she hosts. There is no security (codes to enter the building are posted on the exterior) and the staff has the tendency to be BEYOND unprofessional. The rooms are dirty and you easily share a bathroom with upwards of six people. There is no communication between staff (like leading new guests into my room...as though it were available to them). This place is just horrid and in the day of AirBnB I wish it could just go out of business. Victoria deserves to live on the streets--she certainly treats her customers like they do.

This is a great little hostel! This was my moms first time staying in a hostel so I was definitely a little nervous going in to it, but I'm happy to say that even she loved it (which is saying a lot because she is very picky and particular). We stayed in the Dylan Room in the main house- so cute! The Dylan room is a private room, small but fit 2 people comfortably, especially for a few days stay where we spent most of our time out sightseeing. No complaints about bed/pillows/wifi. Hostel is super clean and adorably decorated. I loved how in the main house there were 3 separate private bathrooms with showers- no sharing with strangers! And free parking in their back lot! The hostel itself is a converted old house, the 2 big front porches are such a pretty spot to hang out and relax. To be honest the vibes of this place didn't really feel like a hostel to me at all, more like a cozy bed and breakfast. Did not have any issues with noise or other guests. The hostel staff was also super friendly and accommodating. Neighborhood is very up and coming, always felt safe walking thru and there are a lot of newer shops and restaurants nearby. Very quick uber ride downtown as well. Overall, highly recommend this place! A Charleston gem.

We enjoyed our three night stay in the NotSo Hostel very much! We stayed in the Aimee room, which was small but comfortable and clean. It could get noisy with people walking up and down the steps, but that's to be expected from a shared space. It was in a good location, within walking distance of nice restaurants and coffee shops, and a bit of a further walk into town. We met nice people and enjoyed the shared living areas as well. Showers were clean and functional. Would recommend to any couple for a cheaper option close to Charleston!

I chose this hostel because it was the most economic option for my trip and for the fact that they had several single/private rooms to choose from. They have a few buildings as part of the hostel, which helps disperse some of the busyness and noise and lends itself to a quieter experience. With that being said, this isn't a typical hostel with "hangout areas" with a big social scene = it has more of a guesthouse feel where people were doing their own thing, so it's pretty calm. This was fine with me since I was just sleeping there and hadn't intended to hang around the hostel much. It's located away from downtown in a quiet neighborhood that felt safe. King Street shopping wasn't too far of a walk and there are some closer restaurants nearby. The parking onsite was a life-saver.

I'm usually wary of hostels, so I wasn't sure how this experience was going to play out. I ended up loving my stay here and can't wait to do it again. I got a private room on the first floor (the Monet room), which felt very safe and secure. It was right off the common room, but I didn't have any issue with sound or the other guests. I tend to be a loner when I travel solo, so I didn't mind a lack of social scene. Good neighborhood, right near lots of shops and restaurants, and not too far from the airport shuttle.
