Charleston, South Carolina3 contributions
If you are looking for southern hospitality, I would recommend going anywhere downtown except here. I have lived in Charleston my entire life and have never been treated so poorly by a business. What started out as a great night on the rooftop bar quickly turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience for my boyfriend and I. It started raining on the rooftop, quickly turning into a summer storm that resulted in them closing the rooftop. Instead of guiding us on where to go and how to pay, they made us all go inside to a cramped elevator hallway and locked the doors so we couldn’t go back outside. We stood there for 30 minutes with about 20 other guests trying to figure out if a staff member was going to come and help us- nobody did. We eventually moved downstairs to the lobby to try and pay for our drinks- nobody on the staff had any idea how we were supposed to pay and made us feel as if it were our fault for being moved inside. After figuring out the situation, without a single apology or explanation, we figured we would order one more drink before we left. A $9 bud light is all I have to say. My boyfriend ended up leaving his card at the hotel, and of course after calling they let us know that they threw it away. How disappointing that southern hospitality is no longer a priority to some businesses. In my opinion, just go somewhere else.

Traveled to Charleston for some much needed R & R over the holiday weekend. We ended it rested and relaxed, in part due to Market Pavilion. Located within walking distance to many of the historical and architectural sights, and great dining. We enjoyed our stay so much we stayed an extra day! We arrived early evening. Check-in was a breeze, and having the roof top bar for sunset cocktails and 225 Grill available in house for tired, thirsty and hungry travelers was a plus. Rooms were well appointed, and ours had a balcony overlooking the city market. Complimentary coffee, tea and pastries available nearly all day, Bathroom is large with Bulgari toiletries. Towels thick, plush, and very absorbent. Roof top pool a great venue to chill out, if you are up there before noon. Fair warning: at 12 o'clock, the pool bar cranks up the music on the sound system from 0 to 11. There is a convenience store located around the corner on Cumberland St, and a few blocks 3 down E Bay St are a grocery store and liquor store (if you happen to be searching for ingredients to make a few French 75s or mimosas,)

The Market Pavilion exceeded our expectations - and we were expecting something really nice. Check-in was quick and easy, then when we got off the elevator fresh coffee for me and hot water for tea for my wife were right in front of us, along with a credenza nearby featuring cookies and fruit for the taking. Our room was spotless, very fresh and had some beautiful furniture; especially an extra wide chair and ottoman that was super comfortable for sitting and reading a book. The marble tiled bathroom and shower were lovely. Our bed was really comfortable and the pillows the best! We had 2 nights that were simply so relaxing . . . when in the room, on the rooftop bar, walking the market across the street and having an absolutely fantastic dinner in their Grill 225 downstairs. That was a meal to remember! This is one of the best places we've ever stayed and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to be close to all of Charleston's attractions.

This is definitely one of the most comfortable and beautiful hotels I’ve stayed at while on a vacation. The staff is wonderful. Quiet, can’t hear people in other rooms or outside. Good location for restaurants and walking around Charleston. Would gladly return. If anyone from Market Pavilion is reading this, please consider changing the attire for the staff working at the rooftop pool/bar/restaurant. All black and long pants looks very uncomfortable when it’s 85+ degrees, although they’re very professional. Maybe they can have summer whites like the Navy. Just a thought.
