My three friends and I just returned home from a week in Charleston, and we stayed at Church Street Inn. We had never stayed anywhere downtown before, but we did extensive research and made a few calls to hotels before booking. Jaden, the young man at the front desk who answered my initial call last August, was so informative, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable that he quickly made quite the impression on me. Then he made sure I was a Choice member and told me what the discount would be for the stay. I booked it, 8 months in advance. When we checked in, he was at the front desk, along with Daylin. BOTH were so helpful, from the check in process, to parking, to downtown information, and hotel information. I could not have asked for a better check-in experience. The hotel was exactly as I had learned in my research. Yes, it is a bit aged, however, it was in tip top shape as far as everything we saw. Yes, our room had an upstairs and a downstairs. Was this a surprise to me and my 70 year old friends? No! We knew what we had signed up for! The room was immaculate, as was the lobby, the courtyard area, the hallway, and all the rooms that were being cleaned each day (we could see through open doors). The smell of "CLEAN" was throughout the hotel. The housekeeping staff was so friendly - I have never been as glad as anything to see and experience FRIENDLY, SMILING faces - the front desk workers and housekeepers alike were a breath of fresh air. They seemed to LIKE their jobs - and EACH OTHER! Maybe they don't, I don't know, but all we witnessed was an extremely positive environment... and that meant EVERYTHING to us! - the rest of the working world seems to be consistently mad, tired, unfriendly, and ready to just go home! The location of the hotel could not be better for downtown activities and shopping, the beds and pillows were very comfy, but I can tell you - it's the PEOPLE who work there that make the DIFFERENCE, and makes me know why it's so successful. Thanks for a wonderfully enjoyable week - Jaden, Daylin, Ciara, and all the housekeepers who never failed to say hello and made us feel so welcome and cared for! We will be back, and we will spread the news about the best place to stay in downtown Charleston.

This hotel is a hidden gem that any traveler to Charleston should consider. We are a family of four including two teenagers. It’s less expensive than many other options but with a phenomenal location easily walkable to almost anything downtown, great set up within each 2 level room, and easy access to parking in the nearby garage. We stayed for one night and it exceeded our expectations. The beds were comfortable, our rooms were clean, and the front desk staff was so helpful.

We stayed in two different hotels during our trip to Charleston and Church Street Inn was our favorite (and less expensive). All of the rooms are on the second floor and each room has a third floor with the bedroom and full bath. Downstairs is your kitchen (which we used for breakfast each morning) and living room area with a couch, small dining area and television. We loved having plenty of room to spread out here and the staff could not have been more welcoming, especially Jared. We have posted a video on Khaki Shorts, our YT channel showing the room and public spaces.

We had a fantastic stay the Church Street Inn. It is located in the heart of historic Charleston, near the market and endless restaurants and shops. Parking at the hotel was a breeze, and it was even better to be able to walk everywhere without having to use our car at all once we arrived.

The apartment is endlessly superior to your typical hotel. Not only do you have two floors of living space, there's a full kitchen, huge TVs, and a separate living area. Bed was as comfortable as they come! The courtyard downstairs, friendly and helpful staff, and free coffee in the morning (in room and in the lobby) was all perfect.

We highly recommend booking this hotel! You will be so glad you did!

The staff is friendly and helpful. They do try to accommodate the guests. The hotel facility is improved over a prior stay early this year and is headed in the right direction. They still need to make obvious repairs such as replacing the burned out chandler bulbs that stare you in the face through the elevator window or clearing out the water from their unused lobby fountain.

The two story rooms are great for entertaining or if you have different sleep schedules.

Ultimately the great location across the street from the market at a moderate price makes this hotel a winner.

Highly recommend this hotel!!! It provided everything we could want for our 3-day stay in Charleston. From when we first stepped in and saw the beautiful staircase and cobblestone flooring, we felt immersed in Charleston culture. There’s an outside courtyard with water fountain that added to the beauty of the whole place.

We were greeted efficiently and went to our room one floor up. All rooms are entered from the second floor and are 2 floors inside so you will need to be able to go up stairs once in the room. We entered into a kitchen and sitting area and half bath and the bedroom and full bath were upstairs. Walk-in closet by beds to put luggage and very large closet in bathroom to put all our toiletries. The beds were very comfortable and we even had a balcony overlooking the market. The housekeeping staff was so incredibly friendly and helpful. Exceptional team there. The room was very clean and outside as well, as we saw them wiping down the wood trim in the hallways. Our room was updated and beautifully decorated. There were minor things, if one is looking for perfection, but I won’t even mention because they didn’t take anything away from our stay in the room. Housekeeping would be free on the 3rd day we were there so we didn’t get it, but anything we needed (toilet paper, towels) was provided as soon as we asked. The front desk even happily held our luggage after checkout.

The location is right in the center of the historic district and across the street from the market, additional stores, many eateries and historical locations. We walked most places. There is not anything else I could think of that we would have wanted. This place provided it all and we are very happy we chose it.

We usually stay at the Mills house but decided to give this one a try and we loved it! The staff is super friendly and always helpful, they even let us borrow an umbrella when it started to rain. The location is the best part of the hotel, walking distance to everything. There is a fun irish bar on the corner and the market is just steps away from the hotel. We took my mom who turned 70 and she did not have any problems navigating the hotel or city. The rooms are unique, kitchen downstairs with anything you could need to cook with, the living area is small but nice gathering area for the 3 of us, and the upstairs was quite comfortable with a full bath and king bed! Shower pressure was great and the beds are very comfortable as well (tons of pillows which was great). There is someone at the front desk 24/7 and they are quick to make any recommendations needed or if you need anything they're there to give it to you! We loved this hotel and definitely will be back. Parking was easy and nearby, we didnt have any issues coming or going all weekend. (They give you a pass for a nearby garage that allows in/out access for the length of your stay).

First they are in the midst of a major renovation but will accept your reservation for a room that is not available! With 4 adults, we booked months ago for a room with a bedroom upstairs and queen bedroom downstairs[for the senior couple in our group] Without any explanation at checkin we were given a room with a king/queen upstairs and a pull-out couch that was smaller than a full! So our first time trip to Charleston started with a discussion with the front desk regarding the unacceptability of the room. Response was that there was no other room available due to the renovation! We had to ask about switching to a sister hotel or compensation if we stayed. We'd just driven from VA and it was a holiday weekend so our possibly of finding a place was not practical. We were promised a reduction in what we paid- I would hope so since it wasn't the 2 beds room we rented! Result was 358 charge for night 1. The 2nd night we were moved to the original room we'd rented and charged 338. Not much compensation for the trouble of attempting to sleep 2 senior adults on a < full size bed and having to pack and move rooms! Second issue was parking. We asked where to park in a handicap spot. The guy at the front desk directed us to the lot where we immediately received a city parking ticket while we went to dinner. So we had to pay an extra $40! Parking was a big issue ; we had to move the car several times and we were only there 2 nights! Third issue was the renovation smells and paper covering halfway of the hall- yuck, just yuck! It was like we were in a flop house instead of a boutique hotel. While we understand renovation needs, we should've been informed prior to our arrival so we could make the decision! I see it's now on the web site but was not there when we booked. Also the large chandelier in the foyer area had about 8 missing lights! It just seemed old and not taken care of versus quaint and historic!

Our experience was overall great. The room was perfect for our family of 3. Plenty of room, charming and updated. The hotels’ location is absolutely perfect situated next to the city market, restaurants, and in heart of downtown Charleston. We walked everywhere...bring comfy shoes. You have parking included with free in and out pass on the other corner of the block. I highly recommend and would stay again I’d we return to Charleston one day!

Only one negative experience and I always hesitate mentioning if I cannot say something nice but it just made for a POOR first impression. The only negative experience is that when arriving I stopped by the concierge while my husband waited in the loading zone with our vehicle and the lady ignored me, I was standing behind her previous guests waiting, then when I mentioned that I was checking in she said you’re early. I let her know that we had early check in and she said she didn’t know anything about it. I proceeded to pull up the reservation confirming our approved early check in and was able to at least get the parking pass where we sat for an hour in our vehicle in the parking garage until our room was ready so we could unload our baggage. We tried to coordinate timing from our rental on Kiawah and in the city.. The entire interaction she seemed irritated. Otherwise great service from all other employees the entire visit.

It is an aged building, but it’s well kept and clean! The beds were very comfortable, and we slept well. This place was the start and end points for all of our excursions, right in the middle of it all! Our balcony was right over the market, and we had a small view of the bay and Ravenel Jr Bridge. It’s a short walk to amazing restaurants, shopping, tours, the bay and pier, the Battery, and must-see historical buildings and fountains. A large parking garage provides parking for the hotel, and is just a short walk around the corner. I could nitpick over small things, like not being able to find the correct remote for our fan in the bedroom, or the fact that they said they would fix it and didn’t... BUT it really didn’t affect our stay. We slept with the balcony door open to the fresh, cool air. Weather was so perfect, and you could softly hear music coming through the door. Added to the experience!!! Btw, the staff was really friendly and nice.

Sorry for the late response. Yes, it’s self-parking in a garage at the end of the street. Once you check in, you can leave your luggage in the lobby, park in the garage and it’s a short walk back to the hotel.

Contact the Inn directly for information on bed sizes. The décor is not modern but its comfortable (old southern charm VS upscale city sleek.)
