The Palmetto prides itself on providing a deeply authentic Charleston experience. Situated in the historic district, within touching distance of the city's finest restaurants and bars, the boutique hotel is particular to the place in which it lives, even a bit peculiar in the way of all charming Southern eccentrics.

The Palmetto Hotel in Charleston is celebrated for its enchanting atmosphere and well-decorated rooms that guests find inviting, particularly the lobby bar. While the hotel's location is a hit among visitors, offering easy access to local attractions, there is a sense that the room rates and valet prices may not fully correspond to the value perceived. The rooms earn compliments for their aesthetic appeal and comfort, but some guests have raised concerns regarding their size and upkeep. The hotel's staff is widely recognized for their warm and efficient service, contributing to the overall hospitable feel of the establishment. Despite a few isolated comments about cleaning services, the hotel's cleanliness generally garners positive remarks.

This was our second stay at The Palmetto, the first in January. Two different staff members recognized us and welcomed us back when we arrived. This degree of personal investment is typical of the warm and gracious staff. The rooms and amenities are elite, but the staff is the secret sauce. Moreover, the hotel reflects the charm of historic Charleston and is, itself, a destination. Our favorite restaurants are an easy walk, as is the waterfront and other attractions. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

From the minute we stepped in the door, the staff was friendly and helpful. I’ll mention Bianca and Charles, but everyone we encountered was great.
The location is an excellent spot to walk to many of the local restaurants and historical locations. Wear sensible shoes, as Charleston has a lot of uneven brick and cobblestone.
The room itself was very nice. It is clear that the remodel was not just slapping on new paint and calling it such. It honestly looked like they stripped it down to the studs and rebuilt it. New furniture, modern shower, modern wall outlets with USB ports, a room safe, and practically sound-proof windows.
I would certainly stay there again.

The Palmetto has a great location, shopping on King street, carriage rides, farmers market, great restaurants are all within walking distance. The hotel is well maintained and clean. Staff is so friendly and helpful. Complimentary breakfast every morning is such a plus. Fresh towels and a carafe of water every day and bed is freshly made daily. Highly recommend the Palmetto.

Stayed here for NYE this past month and was absolutely thrilled with my stay. As a frequent traveler to Charleston I have experience with many of the downtown hotels and this will be my new go to. The location on East Bay is unbeatable you are so close to fantastic restaurants such as Magnolias & Pearlz (make sure to stop by Carmella’s for dessert). On top of that you are a very close walk from lower King where the more premium luxuary retailers are located such as Gucci & Demetre Jewelers. The room was impeccable and staff ensured we always had fresh towels and linens as we requested. When in Charleston I prefer to eat out the local cuisine and have libations outside of where I am staying. However the espresso martini at the Lobby Bar has cemented its spot as my first and last stop on an evening out. Overall the location, beauty, and cleanliness of the hotel will keep me coming back for years to come and as far as down town Charleston it can’t be beat.

My husband and I took a weekend trip to Charleston (our first time there) and stayed 2 nights at The Palmetto.

The hotel is new and clean and is located within walking distance to many restaurants and attractions.

We almost had written Charleston off as a destination for us because most of the hotels I was researching (prior to stumbling across Palmetto) were very expensive and reviewer after reviewer complained that properties were run down, unclean, and not updated. And the complaints were valid, judging by the photos I saw--the various rooms looked like they were decorated circa 1992, and bathroom tile and fixtures looked dingy, dirty, or rusted.

Our room at the Palmetto was nicely appointed and beautifully decorated. The king sized bed was comfortable and actually had a king sized flat sheet and duvet (other hotels we've stayed at are fond of buying only queen flats and duvets and use them for their king rooms, which means the cover barely falls down over the sides of the bed). They use down pillows, which go a little too flat for me, but I just called downstairs to ask if they could bring us up a couple extra pillows and within a half hour they were delivered to our room.

The bathroom was huge with a large walk-in shower with a spa shower head system that we just loved!

The hotel staff was warm and friendly and professional. Everyone from the front desk staff, the valet, lobby bartenders, and housekeeping were wonderful!

We're so happy that we discovered The Palmetto Hotel and will definitely be back!

The Palmetto Hotel recently opened this month (3/23) and is beautifully decorated in sage and natural materials. The Lobby has an elegant yet comfortable feel with board games and a nice bar where breakfast is served daily and operates as a full service bar in the evenings. The hotel staff was just wonderful. Everyone was very friendly and the concierge provided some great recommendations for meals, carriage rides and plantation tours. The king hotel room with balcony is just beautiful with seagrass lined ceiling, beautiful furnishings including a lovely patterned bench, comfortable bed and great bathroom with Kohler digital shower, massage nozzles and a rainforest and hand held showerhead. The hotel is also in a premier location on South Bay St. close to the water and great restaurants and cafes. I will certainly stay at The Palmetto Hotel when I return to Charleston for some more Southern Charm!

Although we arrived a bit early for check-in, we were not only able to get our room, but we were also welcomed with a complimentary mini sweet and fruity vodka cocktail. The room was cozy and clean with nice lighting - wall lights on both sides of head board. The bed was comfortable - not too soft but not too firm - with quality cotton sheets and four fluffy pillows. The shower was spacious with a rainhead spout and tasteful bench with complimentary shampoo and conditioner (which smelled great). The bathrobes are a nice touch, and while we didn't use any of the beverages provided in the room, you won't have to run out to buy water, soda or booze. We canceled the turn down service, but when returned from our meal at Fleet Landing, there were two complimentary dark chocolates on the desk. The next morning, we enjoyed the fresh pastries, fruit and yogurt parfaits (there were warm breakfast choices as well). The decor is tasteful, and the staff professional and friendly. We will definitely consider staying here again. To save a bit of $, we did not do valet parking, and instead parked at an open air lot nearby.

We stayed two nights for our anniversary trip. This was our first time in Charleston. The hotel is in a great location and we were able to walk everywhere. We followed advice I had read in other reviews and used the parking garage behind the hotel to save money from valet parking. It worked out great. The room was beautiful & clean. The complimentary breakfast was really good. Our only complaints are that the room was pretty tiny and the TV was in a weird location, so there wasn’t a good way to be able to watch it. There was really no where to set a suitcase and open it. We ended up on the 5th floor, which are the weird windows you can see across the top of the building and I wonder if a lower floor may have been better. The tiny refrigerator was stocked with drinks they want you to purchase, so if you bring your own, there’s really no place to put them. We did enjoy the hotel & would stay again.

We stayed in this hotel two nights. After entering the room I noticed sticky stains and marks in the dresser as well as the broken soap dispenser. But in addition and worst, the room was not made once, and of course neither the towels were changed. We left the room at 9 am and returned 6 hours later, to notice that the room was not done, so I went to the front desk where a young lady could not give me any explanation at all of what may have happened and told me that at 6 pm there would be a housekeeping check. This did not happened. So at 6,45 pm I went again to the front desk, where this time a rude woman that introduced herself as the Manager heard my complaint and although I told her specifically I needed the room done at once, she kept me waiting 45 minutes. By the time the housekeeping assistant came I just ask for the towels as we had a dinner reservation and needed to shower. This Manager was really rude, not this time but also have been the day before when after a long walk and upon returning to our room my husband asked for a small sip of the beverage offered when checking in. She denied the request in very bad manners and then my question is: how is it possible that what is considered an up-scale hotel with huge fares, be so mean to deny a guest a SIP of a drink. What harm could it have done to its financials ? Shame on this poor hospitality behavior. Shame on the staff and on the rude Manager. Avoid this place if you are looking for kindness and hospitality.

Dear Solcito63 - I am so sorry to read of your experience - it is definitely not what our guests have come to expect of our service at The Palmetto. Never have I known the team to deny anyone a taste of our welcome cocktail, so I will certainly be looking into that. Similarly with the lapse in Housekeeping service ... it sounds like a busy afternoon may have gotten the better of us, but that is no excuse for poor manners. Please know your feedback is taken very seriously .. we always strive to take only the best care of our guests, and if we fall short then we aim to improve. Warmest, Carly Skinner General Manager

Not a luxury hotel experience. The hotel is in a great location with lovely decor and pleasant staff and the bar has an excellent espresso martinin; unfortunately, the positives don't go much further.
The shower in our bathroom needed a good scub (and after housekeeping left one day there were dirty shoe prints left on the shower floor) and the inexpensive towels were worn and need replacing. The room is nicely appointed and the decor is stylish yet relaxed, but the bed linens are in need of an update -- in the days of luxury hotel bedding these are on par with a Holiday Inn -- it would also be lovely to include a blanket either on the bed or in the armoire.
Housekeeping each day was lacking (used glasses and towels left behind) and seemed hurried and "turn down" is very basic... a carafe of water, the next day's weather written down and the decorative pillow removed from the bed and placed on the floor.

With so many options to choose from in CHS, this property needs to step up their game if they plan to continue charging and elevated nighly rate.
