Spoiled! Champagne and sparkling juice at check-in. Breakfast in bed (a delicious one at that). Wine with cheese plates in the afternoon. Warm cookies with milk in the evening. Relaxing pillow spray. Nighttime chocolates. Fantastic!!!!! Perfect location too! Aside from dinner across the river, we were able to walk everywhere we went.

Not only is this a quiet, upscale hotel, it is also blessed with amazing staff. Every single staff member we interacted with was super friendly and dedicated to making our stay the best. Each day you get breakfast delivered to your room; in the early evening there is a wine and cheese reception; and at night there is cookies and milk and all of this is included in the price of your room. AMAZING!!! They also had water, tea and lemonade available all day. We used their complimentary bikes to ride around and they had umbrellas ready when it rained. When we return to Charleston we will absolutely only stay at the French Quarter Inn.

I agree with weiler97's review posted July 2, 2021 about his May 2021 experience staying at the FQI in Charleston. The three staff members we met were courteous. The room was spacious and well appointed. But from arrival to check-out there were disappointments. We used a map app to find the hotel, but upon arriving at 166 Church Street, we could not find the hotel. There was no signage, and we drove around the block twice. I called the hotel and was told to look for the circular drive indicating the front of the hotel. When we found the entrance on a side street (not on Church St.) that I thought was an alley, the hotel sign was obscured on a wall behind a set of columns. We arrived at night and the lighting was poor. This street looked very seedy and unsafe. The hotel doors were locked, there was no valet, and we were looking at the lower level of the hotel. We did not see the lobby. I called the hotel again and the night clerk came running down the curved staircase to let us in. The lobby is on the second floor. The clerk checked us in and we learned that we would be bringing up our own luggage. We were not provided a luggage cart. When we got back outside, unpacked our luggage, and tried to renter the building our keys did not work. Once again I called the hotel and the night clerk returned to let us in. She remade the keys and went down to test that they worked. We had complimentary valet parking and she said she would park our car in the parking garage. She then had to search for the valet claim ticket to give us a receipt. Check-in took 30 minutes. Our room was on the third floor which is the top level of the hotel. It was warm, even though the thermostat was set to the low 70s. We set it to 66 degrees to cool off the room. The room was large, the bathroom spacious, and the bed comfortable. In the early morning hours, we were awakened by the beeping sound of a service vehicle backing up. I looked out the window and saw what I thought was an alley with trash cans and a dirt lot. For the next hour a large truck with a hose extending from it made a noise like a loud vacuum cleaner. A crane was also operating in the same alley. We could not sleep due to the noise; it seems that there is no window soundproofing. I was very irritated to loose those couple of hours of additional sleep I needed. A complimentary breakfast is served in the room or can be picked up in the lobby. Guests select from a limited menu. We had the hard boiled egg, fruit, yogurt, cheese, croissant plate. It was just okay and the croissant was stale. I thought I would heat it in the microwave to soften it, but the room had no microwave or coffee maker. We left the hotel right after breakfast. I just wanted to put this disappointing experience behind us. We realized when we exited the hotel that what I thought was an alley was the street in front of the hotel. FYI: the front of the hotel is on Linguard St. I do not feel our experience warranted the $461.98 per night room rate. There was nothing luxurious or upscale about FQI. We have stayed at the Charleston Place before and had a much better experience.

That said, I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations and that there were some hiccups with service. Unfortunately overnight we have less team members to assist. I am sorry to hear about the noise you experienced - we do provide sound sleep machines for all guests rooms of the hotel, as while we are in a beautiful and historic city, we are in downtown and are subject to "city noise". Finally, we appreciate your feedback on our breakfast and apologize for quality issues - we are always working to improve ourselves. First of all I agree on other reviews regarding friendly staff and service. However, for those that use TA to research and plan your trip. I wanted to provide honest feedback after our 2 night suite with balcony. Everything I’ve said here I have already shared with the GM so not couch quarterbacking or trolling. There was no offer to address my issues nor was there presence of the GM (at a fine restaurant you at least are greeted by the maitre d’. ). This seems to me arrogance based on the marketing of best in Charleston (and in USA ??). Upon arrival (keep in mind a first timer) we could not find the entrance! In fact you enter on side of street where valet would be. It would be helpful to have a sign that said entrance with an arrow. Side entrance borders a loud Pub (room not sound proof at night with live music that has a speaker outdoors) and garbage/recycling (yes trucks with backing up sound are loud early in morning). From basement you get to lobby upstairs. Classy but not memorable or something you’d take a picture of like other grand lobbies. Still not feeling the hype of being “the best”. The price point was IMO very overpriced. We paid over $1400 for 2 nights. We have stayed in other cities and metro areas but not seeing the cost of $700+ a day justifies value. For instance, location is great however the Church Street Inn across the street (!) is half the cost and the suite has an efficiency like a Residence Inn for cooking/fridge. French Quarter charges double to park where we found our own parking 2 blocks away half price. If you want fancy, there are even fancier in Charleston including one competitor that has an attached indoor mall with dining options all walking distance in downtown FQI currently no longer has a restaurant attached with Ruth Chris closing after Covid. The breakfast was nice but the expected hot breakfast was room temperature which felt like it was warmed up. A spoon was not clean. The balcony drain also was not clean with something dried and stained around drain. The room and bathroom was very clean but, sorry, attention to detail is important if charging this rate. Beds very comfortable. We were not offered the pillow menu. The chairs on balcony very uncomfortable. Take pillows from couch to support back on these cheap chairs and flimsy patio table. There are no amenities other than bikes (not safest roads to bike without bike paths). No pool. No gym on site. No restaurant. There is a courtyard but snacks during day were simple. Overall I feel FQI has a mixed identity claiming to be an upscale top hotel but has a feel of a simpler inn with simple amenities. We also stayed in comparable Savannah’s Kehoe House. Now this is an Inn - half the price, free parking, hot breakfast, and walkable to everywhere as well.
