Nestled in the heart of the city, the Courtyard Charleston Historic District hotel garners praise for its stellar location, moments away from Charleston's key attractions. Guests appreciate the clean and modern rooms, though some have called out the need for extra cleaning and raised concerns about the noise. The staff's friendly and responsive nature is frequently highlighted, though there have been occasional issues. Despite the outdoor ambiance and cleanliness, the value proposition is questioned due to the high prices and limited amenities.

This hotel was in the heart of the historic district only one block from King Street where you can find all sorts of shopping, restaurants and bars. Surrounded by the College of Charleston it also makes a great place to stay when visiting the school. The hotel was nicely decorated, very clean and welcoming. The staff was very friendly. Did not try the restaurant as this is the first weekend they were open since the pandemic and had a “soft” opening with limited items on the menu. With so many options nearby that wasn’t an option. Parking is Valet only at $37 per night but they (Ryan, Chris and the other Valet guys) were extremely pleasant and helpful with in and out privileges. The only complaint I have is that I was on the 2nd floor facing the back of the building. Thats not usually a problem for me, but we faced a little courtyard where these 6 woman came out very night presumably after partying at the club all night and drank and yelled until 4 am. That coupled with the very loud hotel music which I assume was directly under our room made for a couple of very sleepless nights. If you want to sleep ask for a room facing the front of the hotel. Pool was clean and appeared to be heated but limited to 10 people and you have to be let in by hotel Staff due to pandemic capacity requirements. The gym was very clean and limited to the number of people allowed but always empty so no social distancing problems. Overall a good time.

The location of the hotel is perfect...within walking distance of all of the best restaurants as well as major attractions in the historic district. Check in was seamless but maid service was inconsistent and ineffective at times. The Bistro service was the worst ever encountered at a Courtyard in my 20 years as a titanium elite member. The valet parking was expensive but very consistent and helpful ... it saves you considerable time when touring the local area. If you are a light sleeper be sure to get an interior room because this is a high traffic area.

This is an excellent basic hotel. The lobby eatery had just opened but many excellent recommendations for eating outside the hotel were provided. The price is probably about right for what you are getting, a clean, comfortable, no frills room. You are paying for the location, which is excellent with easy walking to the visitor's center, the marketplace with surrounding restaurants and with DASH, the free bus service right outside the hotel entrance. This can bring you to Broad street and the Aquarium area et. al. Two caveats, parking is valet and runs $38 per night. Second, the rooms facing both streets are noisy at night. So bring your ear plugs (which I used on the first night only and then got used to it!). All in all, I would definitely stay there again when we return.

This hotel was disappointing. This was a very special trip for me, and as a Marriott Titanium Elite member, it was the first time I have ever called the Elite line asking for special arrangements. I also contacted the hotel directly. Despite Elite Services being very responsive, no one from the hotel ever replied to them or me, and upon check-in, none of my requests had been taken into consideration.

The rooms are old, musty, and housekeeping was not good, a bigger issue than normal during a pandemic.

One night, the noise was too much from the street and partiers in the hotel, and I called down to ask for a fan. The front desk said they would check with housekeeping, and not only did a fan never arrive, but no one ever called me back.

I am a huge Marriott fan, and not hard to please (I almost never give ratings this low), but this was one of my worst Marriott stays to date.

For the high prices you pay for this hotel's location, it is most definitely NOT worth it.

From the minute we walked up the front steps the dirt and trash stood out.
The lobby and Rooms are clean but sanitizer was in limited locations.
We called the office and told them after being at three other hotels in Charleston this week this one was the least prepared for customer sanitation with only 2 hand sanitizer visible in the whole hotel.
After speaking to the desk they said ones would be added at entrance doors and elevators but 24 hrs none have been added.
As we visit to the pool the first day it was a wreck debri floating in the pool, cigarettes around the pool deck and visible not cleaning in days.
I called the office to report the condition of the pool and after hours my husband started cleaning it so we could enjoy the visit. The next morning again the pool was a disaster with food, cigars, cigarettes and various wrappers all over the place.
We called the office again with the same answer, someone will be down to clean up and the same response nothing so we left without getting in the pool. This was utterly ridiculous and will have a problem giving this resort a second chance.I thought you would want to know this property does not represent the Marriott name I am a platinum elite and a Hilton member, the Hilton next door was an option but we chose Marriott and had 7 family members join us. It is embarrassing when we chose the property to have such a let down. They did not tell us at check in no service so we asked for clean towels and got them 2 hours later after I showered to go to Magnolias. Again I do not think this is the representation you want for your brand. We have pictures we can share with you as well.

The hotel location and room were wonderful.

But service was sketchy. Housekeeping arrived at 6-7 pm most nights when we were getting ready for dinner and really wanted clean towels.

Most of the time there was no one at the front desk which was so annoying. I had to go find an office, bang on the door to get someone to go to the front desk. Then, I’d confirm housekeeping between 9-5, to no avail. Also, valet parking is $37/day so that, plus 4 additional taxes added $100/night to our room charge which I did not expect.

We started our girls trip in Charleston and this was the perfect hotel for our home base. Close to the water we walked a couple blocks east to aquarium. We walked a few blocks west or south there are many restaurants to choose from. The free shuttle around Charleston also stopped right in front. Our room was not ready when it was check in time and quite exhausted from the west coast flight we just sat in lobby to wait. Lobby was inviting with many couches, the outside had rocking chairs and tables like a wrap around porch. There was a smoking area for our friends further down and an outdoor table where we could get take out food to eat alfresco. The room had a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. Beds were very comfortable and everyone there was very pleasant during check-in and when we needed extra towels and cups. Would definitely stay here again if in area.

We stayed in this property as it as the preferred hotel for a wedding we were attending. The stay was excellent starting with the friendly & professional front desk staff, The efficient valet parking our car and retrieving it numerous times. The facility is very well maintained and our room was tastefully furnished and stocked with bathroom needs. We opted to forgo daily room service but the staff checked when we were leaving our room if we required anything. The location of this property is excellent in the Historic District. I highly recommend this property

Location is good. This property is just poor quality, couch in suite very cheap and uncomfortable, felt like a dorm room. Room was unclean with dust and lint in the corners. Price is high for no breakfast included. Would not stay again.

Not really in the heart of downtown where the market, horse carriages, restaurants are. It is in front of a gas station and a mile walk to the buzzing tourist area. We like the spacious king room with a pull out sofa and even more spacious bathroom. Housekeeping doesn’t come during your stay but lobby provides fresh towels and bath mats wrapped in a laundry bag should you want a daily change of towels. We slept well and felt safe in the area. They lent us umbrellas on a stormy weekend. There’s a coffee maker and fridge inside the room and lobby also has coffee until 9am only. $25 Uber ride to/from airport. Will stay closer to the action of the Historic District on Church/Meeting/Market streets on our return to Charleston. No breakfast, no perks for ambassador elite.

Any bike rentals in town? Near hotels? Is it easy to get around town bike riding?
Answer from LucasKWalsh
Charleston, South Carolina
All city garage parking is advertised at $18.00 per day, however that price is from midnight to midnight. So essentially you will be paying $36 to park overnight with no in and out privileges. There is a church across the street that has a open surface parking lot that is $32.00 overnight. Street parking at any meter in the downtown area is free from 6pm to 9am. But you will need to be cautious of street sweeping signs. Hope this helps!
Answer from LucasKWalsh
Charleston, South Carolina
The offsite parking is at a public garage. You would pay them, but do not have in and out privileges.
