Very rough stay. No room service. No Concierge. No Computers. It was my first time traveling to Charleston and I very much needed support to get around. The valets are apparently not hotel employees but under contract. That means very little service and guidance to tourist locales, etc.
The perfect location. Service was the worst. They need lots of help. They do not answer the front desk!!!! Never!!!! No housekeeping at all. Had to request or look for housekeeping to get towels every day and were out some days with wash cloths. Requested garbage takeout one day and only got one can when clearly bathrooms have them. Had to return dirty towels to housekeeping everyday in the hall, they would not come in room. Really, its ridiculous. When you came in hotel daily there was not a friendly atmosphere that should come with a famous hotel like Mills House. They need to visit the French Quarters Inn.
We paid extra for a junior suite so we could spread out and relax. Problem was, there were no footstools. It seemed as if the room was designed by a robot. And, bathroom was quite small, but the rest of the suite was huge, with lots of empty space. We won't be returning.
I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews, but our stay was very nice. The location doesn't get any better. The people behind the desk and in the bar areas were great. The room wasn't as small as some say. We were comfortable and we stayed for 6 nights. The breakfast wasn't anything to shout about, I would definitely look elsewhere. Our rate was increased for the weekend and I guess that is understandable, but we did not have use of the main bar and courtyard, because of weddings on Friday and Saturday. That was kind of a bummer. The other thing some complained about was the valet service. These guys were great. Our car was always ready in front in a short period of time. I think this hotel is very nice and we would definitely stay here again.
Not only was the mattress clearly sloped and old (read prior reviews for other people experiencing the same thing) but there was another person’s hairs on one of the pillows and on the shower walls when I arrived in addition to crumbs by the bed and entrance (walnuts?). I would’ve thought being in a suite would mean higher quality room but was sadly mistaken. For what I paid, I should’ve stayed anywhere else.
