We planned a short trip to Charleston as a stress reliver after Covid. We decided to take the trian from Union Station in Washington DC (The Palmeto) to the North Charleston station and Uber to The Governors House Inn. We arrived at the Inn around 8:15Pm which was after hours, we were given a video to secure our room key that was in a lock box, we went to our room (Independence) on the 2nd Floor (NOTE: there is no elevator to the upper floors). Dropped our bag and went out to get a late night snack and drink. We went north on Broad Street found a place with bar food and drinks, ate and returned to our room and a restful nights sleep. The Governors House is a bed and Breakfast, but better, they don't serve breakfast but we got 2 $15 vouchers for each of our days we were there, the vouchers were for local restaurants that served breakfast, we tried a new on each day (all were within easy walking distance, a few hundred yards, the breakfasts were superb. The Inn offers coffee/tea 24 hours/day. Wine and cheese and other finger foods are served each day from 4:30PM-5:30PM, and sherry is available 24/7. We had a great stay and recommend the inn highly.…
My husband and I spent 4 wonderful nights at the Governor's House Inn last week. This was supposed to be our trip to Europe, then trip to Costa Rica, but our Plan C trip to Charleston was absolutely magical. The Governor's House Inn is in such a perfect location! "Q" (and Kim) took amazing care of us; making us feel right at home with her gracious ways and southern charm. Anything we needed was provided and my husband and I were very impressed with the cleaning and sanitation protocols the GHI has implemented to combat COVID. Kathy was fabulous and greeted us every morning. She cared for us and our suite and even took the time to leave us a note and fresh flowers. My husband has an in room massage arranged by the Inn and it was fabulous!!!! The grounds of the Inn are stunning!!! We could not get enough of just sitting on the porch or our terrace and just enjoy the ambiance of the place. And SO MUCH HISTORY!! I can't say enough great things about the Governor's House Inn and her staff! Thanks to them for making our "Plan C" the best trip!…
We went to Charleston for an anniversary trip and had an amazing time at the Governor's Inn. Every one was so helpful and the accommodations were beyond excellent. Would highly recommend the Washington Suite and the Inn. We will definitely return.
I spent an inordinate amount of time looking for places to stay in Charleston. No doubt many great hotels, B&B's etc. Being a history nut, I settled on The Governor's House Inn (Rutledge Suite). The people were great, the atmosphere was impeccable, and the house holds more detail than you can absorb in a weekend. Location was just south of all the noise, and within 10-12 minutes we could walk to anywhere we wanted. Did I mention private parking?? My wife loved the elegant furnishings, the bath robe, the coffee, the afternoon snacks, the bed/sheets, the caretakers of the house, the breakfast vouchers for local restaurants, and the area in general. My advise... if you're considering a visit to Charleston, don't overthink it, just make your reservation at the GHI.
Without a doubt, this is the place to stay in Charleston. If you are avid fans of historic properties, the Governor’s House will charm you. Comfortable, quiet, and elegantly appointed. We anticipate our next visit to Charleston during Spring 2022. Many thanks to our gracious hosts, Kimberly and Karl, and their charming staff.
I absolutely love staying at The Governors House Inn! Perfect Location and I particularly enjoy the Lafayette Suite in the Kitchen House. It has a screened porch and just wonderful history , open beams and heart-one floor. One feels like they are in the 1700s, but with many more amenities. The Service is impeccable
We met our friends at this Inn and the four of us had a wonderful time. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays and all the rooms were so inviting and comfortable. We brought back lunch and ate on the beautiful terrace. We will definitely come back to this very old and well preserved Governor’s House Inn.
We had a wonderful stay! Karen and Ross were very hospitable and made us feel very comfortable. We wish we had more time to enjoy the beautiful Inn! It was wonderful to be able to leave the car in the parking lot and just enjoy walking where we needed to go. If you have the opportunity to take the history tour with Karen I highly recommend it! She is so knowledgeable! I hope to visit again soon!
The Governors Inn is the place to go. It was immaculate and the staff make you feel like you are part of their family. They couldn’t do enough to make us feel at home and help us plan our trip and all our restaurants and tours. We highly recommend.
We were impressed before we even arrived at the Governor's House Inn. We called on more than one occasion after making our reservations in order to ask opinions about local restaurants, places to see, etc. We spoke with Karen and Kimberly on more than one occasion and they were invaluable in helping us plan our stay in Charleston. We arrived after hours, but we had a check in video sent to us which eliminated all guess work. Once we stepped inside we were greeted with a well lit, stunning Colonial Mansion. Tasteful classic music was playing for the guests as well as a decanter of sherry. We were speechless. We met Karen and Kimberly the next day and both were just as nice and helpful as they were in our phone calls. Everyday, the Inn has an afternoon wine/sherry/food outlay which we enjoyed each day we stayed at the Inn. Very classy mansion in a very nice neighborhood with many close by places to eat and drink. The Mansion has onsite free, safe, and plentiful parking in back away from the street. We noticed other Inns required their guests to park a block away due to inadequate parking space. Not so at the Governor's Inn. That convenient parking was extremely helpful. This mansion belonged to one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and was also host to George Washington on four evenings during his 1791 visit to Charleston. We were very impressed with the Governor's House Inn.…
