If you’re looking for a delightful experience in Charleston you must stay at the Planter’s Inn. The rooms and baths are spacious, beautifully decorated, and spotless. The stunning courtyard beckons you to stop and sit at the cafe tables near the water feature in the shade from the palms. Adding to our wonderful experience was the friendly, accommodating, staff at the Inn. From the manager, who kindly offered us a suite when we arrived at 7AM, to the doormen, the desk staff, the bartenders, and the cleaning staff all worked to make sure our stay was perfect. We’ve been visiting this inn for 30 years, and it never disappoints.

Hotel's Favorite
Great location with easy walking access to historic downtown Charleston. An elegant old hotel with great history, top notch service and fantastic food. We stayed in the Govenor's Suite and found it to be a large, very comfortable and almost sound proof room. Don't miss a chance to eat at Peninsula Grill while you are there for fantastic food and a nice selection of wines and liquors.

Planters Inn hired an excellent photographer and the website photos presents the hotel as more luxurious than in reality . I had great expectations and was disappointed with the property; only one average common area, modest room furnishings and didn't feel it was up to the Relais & Châteaux Hotel standards. The turn down service wasn't special nothing was left on your pillow & no mat by the bedside with slippers. Luckily we spent very little time in our room or on premise. However, the staff was excellent, responsive, professional and attentive. In fact the staff: James, Karin and others saved our stay.

We had a wonderful stay at the Planters Inn. As good a hotel experience as we've had in quite some time. Well worth the price. Our room was a two-room suite, with a living area with couch and comfortable chairs, and a separate bedroom (other rooms are similar total size, with similar furniture but no separation of bedroom and sitting area). All beautifully decorated with reproduction antiques and individualized artwork. Unusual among hotels, the Planters Inn has sufficient and adjustable lighting in the sitting areas to read or do close work. Really appreciated. The cleaning staff was thoughtful and flexible. Twice daily service. And the location is just perfect for the historic and entertainment districts. We found the blackout shades/shutters and double glazing to be very good. Almost no noise from the outside. A little noise from the room above, but not really bothersome. The Peninsula Grill is lovely, and a wonderful place to have breakfast. Be sure and have some grits as a side. Delicious. We came in late one evening and had a lovely nightcap in the bar with the 13 layer coconut cake. Great.

Absolutely recommend the restaurant. It was superb. The market price steaks were worth every penny. The composed plates were a wonderful blend of flavours. unfortunately, the inn portion of the property was not up to the competition or the price. Our first room was dirty, and while our second room was clean upon check in, it was not maintained during our stay. For the price, it was not worth it.

Lovely inn tucked away right in the historic district. Right from the start at check in, all staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Great restaraunt recommendations, easy room service options. Walking distance to everything and easy to navigate. Highly recommended!

We were a bit disappointed with our stay at Planters Inn. The location of the hotel is fantastci within the city. We had an expensive penthouse room which had an awesome balcony. However, the A/C system was such that it would seem a bit warm or cool and nothing in between. The bedside table lights were not bright enough to be able to read in bed and The TV was quite small and not of high quality. For the very high price paid, it was a disappointment.

We had a lovely stay, the staff was very courteous and helpful. The location could not have been better. The hotel restaurant was fine, but recommend checking out the many food places and restaurants a short walk away. No fitness center

When my boyfriend was looking for places to celebrate our anniversary in Charleston, he happened upon The Planters Inn and the hotel director James Howard. James and his team made our stay truly unforgettable, and had every detail of the weekend perfectly curated. They were friendly, personable, and caring. He ensured that everyone knew it was our special occasion, and it was so nice to be congratulated by the whole staff, even the housekeeper. The rooms are spacious and the bed is super comfortable. We will definitely stay at the Planters Inn again!

Enjoyed our Charleston visit and the terrific Planters Inn Location. Nice rooms with a caveat that the windows don’t open, no mini bar, no hot water cooker. Value for money is moderate. Number one asset is the location!
