My husband and I just returned from a three night stay at the Wentworth mansion, and we just had to write a review! We were absolutely blown away by the magnificence of the mansion, beautiful, high end interior design of each room, and very warm hospitality of management and staff! Our room was exemplary! I felt like I was staying in a room from Downton Abbey! It was so grand, complete with a working gas fireplace that was on a timer, so that you could actually drift off to sleep in the luxurious bed as a fire was going… Yes, we did this in May! Everything was clean, the service was exact! So much comes with your stay as well; a beautiful, gourmet breakfast with many choices in their gorgeous circa 1886 restaurant, coffee stations on the main level from early in the morning, and a beautiful, gourmet happy hour… complete with beautiful wines, and delicious hors d’oeuvres! This is grand living in Charleston! We will definitely be coming back! If you want a glorious, luxurious, stay at a hotel where you will feel loved and cared for, look no further than the Wentworth mansion!…
We had a fabulous time; Bryan, our concierge, was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable host who took care of our every request. He was a pleasure to speak to, and obviously took great pride in the mansion and Charleston itself. The spa, restaurant, and other amenities were all excellent. My husband and I especially enjoyed sitting in the jasmine perfumed gardens prior to dinner. We look forward to returning to Wentworth Mansion in the near future.
Stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed the experience immensely. The Mansion is beautiful and well maintained. Our room was spacious with a fireplace and jetted spa. The bathroom was large with newer, high end towels/sundries. The bed was comfortable and there were other seating options that we used for relaxing. The in room refrigerator was stocked with various waters and sodas each day. The common areas were surprisingly welcoming given their elegance. The "extras" provided, daily including the hors d'oeuvres, pastries, snacks and upscale alcoholic beverages were excellent. Cold water bottles provided by the front door were a nice touch. Breakfast at Circa 1886 was upscale and varied each day. We dined here one evening and the food and service matched it's reputation. Bryan, the concierge, was terrific in his knowledge of the Mansion and it's history and his passion showed through each time he shared something about the mansion. He was one of the finest concierges we've dealt with in a lifetime of travel. About the only minor negative I can mention is that the location is a bit off the main path. This contributes to the quiet and privacy, but the walk to town may be a bit far for some. We enjoyed the use of a pedicab on several occasions and found it affordable and fun. I recognize that the kind of money required to stay here may be exorbitant for some, but this is the kind of lodging experience that one always hopes for. I would go so far as to say that this provides an excellent value for the money spent. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone.…
My wife and I had an amazing time at the Wentworth Mansion, this place is well worth the cost. The property and room are both perfect and the little touches are perfect. From water and soft drinks for the in-room fridge to wine happy hour to breakfast at Circa. I highly recommend checking this place out.
We could not have been happier with our Honeymoon stay at Wentworth Mansion. To begin, of course the mansion is absolutely beautiful with a view from the cupola that is unrivaled. There are sitting spaces where you can read by the fire or just enjoy the home and listen to music. Complimentary coffee, pastries are served in the morning and wine and appetizers in the evenings. The restaurant (Circa 1886) has wonderful complimentary breakfast for guests and also delicious dinner if you’re looking for upscale dining. I got a hot stone massage at the Spa, located in the former stables, and the ambiance and service was perfect. I almost went back for a second massage a couple days later, it was that good (thank you Jamie!) I want to give a very special shout-out to Bryan, who quite seriously MADE our experience at Wentworth Mansion! There are plenty of beautiful places to stay in Charleston, but what’s truly impressive is when a place’s customer service matches its standard of looks. Bryan takes the experience of guests very seriously and spoke to my husband and I about the history of Wentworth and Charleston for lengthy periods of time, answering all of our questions and more. He checked in on us and was so welcoming, it felt like we were returning to a home whenever we came back at night. He is a top-notch employee and part of what we will miss about Wentworth Mansion is chatting with him! Beyond that, everyone we met from the servers to the spa staff to the bell hop were very friendly and you can tell they enjoy working there (or they are very good at faking haha!) Thanks so much again and we will be back!…
The Wentworth Mansion in Charleston is like taking a step back in time. It speaks to the gilded-age in America when one would be treated like royalty by their hosts. We were definitely treated like royalty. We were never left wanting. Can't wait to return .
Most extensive architectural detail we have enjoyed. If you are one of our followers, you know that we stay in fancy hotel suites fairly regularly. We avoid chain hotels and love to stay in older repurposed buildings, like Wentworth Mansion. The millwork, plaster cast ceilings, wainscotting, marble fireplace facades, stained glass, chandeliers, and general decor are downright overwhelming. I thought about similar repurposed buildings that we have stayed in and three came to mind: 1. Drisco in San Francisco is another repurposed mansion. It has a similar feel to Wentworth. The décor might be called reminiscent, but it comes nowhere close to the overwhelming detail of Wentworth. Nonetheless, we highly recommend Drisco. 2. Hotel de Rome in Berlin is a repurposed former pre-WWII bank building. We stayed in a former board room that featured shrapnel and bullet holes from the war in the heavy wood paneling. Unfortunately, with the exception of a very few repurposed “heritage rooms,” Hotel de Rome is essentially the equivalent of a Marriott without the service. Not Recommended. 3. La Reserve in Paris is another repurposed mansion. It is the most luxurious hotel we have ever stayed. The contrast between La Reserve and Wentworth is “soul.” The La Reserve interior is totally rebuilt. Very little of the original architectural detail remains. You will enjoy modern details, like Toto Toilets. Service at Wentworth was outstanding. Many of the services, including the breakfast, the nightly wine reception, and the like are covered by most reviewers here. The one service they do not have which we generally appreciate is “turndown.” We just like returning from dinner to a freshened-up room with clean towels and the like. We particularly enjoyed the nightly wine reception where we meet fellow visitors, and shared restaurant and attraction experiences. We were surprised to meet from all over the country. There is a review here that claims noise from the Lobby is intrusive in this room. We were here six nights. There was a time or two we heard a noise from the Lobby, but it was very insignificant. Do not be concerned about excess noise in this room.…
A week after our visit and we are still dreaming of our experience of the Wentworth Mansion. There is so much to discover, and you’ll discover more than you ever thought with every minute you spend appreciating the history and beauty this home has to offer. My husband and I stayed for a much-needed vacation and found our home-away-from-home at the Wentworth. From breakfast at Circa 1886, to sitting by the fire with a bottle of wine, to relaxing in the jacuzzi, seeing the Tiffany and Co Stainless glass windows, the paintings, the garden, the stillness and quiet of the home… The possibilities and experience is endless. How much you discover is up to you. Never before have we met such an incredible staff. Brian, one of the home’s concierges, is absolutely one of the most memorable humans we have ever met. We’ll revisit the mansion just to listen to more of his stories, love, and appreciation for the Wentworth and his job. The staff was one of the things that made this place what it is. Words simply cannot express how you feel while staying in the mansion, and it must only be experienced. We don’t have words, just memories.…
It is tough to write negative reviews at a time when the service industry is so stretched and struggling. We are hugely aware of how tough it is to keep everything going and running. Saying that, I want to stress that the people who keep this hotel going are wonderful. They are pleasant and helpful and gracious. The young women servers in the restaurant at breakfast are always just terrific. The hotel's issues come down to wear and tear. The mattresses need to be replaced. At least ours in a grand premier room did. The in room furniture is getting a bit tattered. The chairs are uncomfortable - just too worn down. So are the towels. It all feels a bit old and beyond its best days. That would be fine if they were not charging substantial rates (which do include wonderful breakfasts and valet parking).....Some of the freebies are appreciated - Harneys tea in the lobby, coffee, water, chocolates, national newspapers. The free brandy/port is free because it is not high quality. We never tried the wine or appetizers so I can't comment. Again the staff is exceptional. But the hotel is showing its age and as more and more nigh end hotels open in Charleston it is going to have to steo up its game to compete.…
Just an unbelievable stay at this wonderful hotel. From the first time we pulled up, we were treated so well by every member of the staff. Bryan greeted us and make sure we fully understood all the amenities as well as the history of the Mansion. It’s clear the staff truly enjoys their work and it extends to every aspect of the service. Looking forward to our next visit, as soon as possible.
