We stayed at the Wentworth for our 13th wedding anniversary and it was exceptional! The place is gorgeous, the staff is friendly and the rooms are cozy. The on-site restaurant, Circa 1886, is a must for a special dinner. The breakfast there is delicious too ( and included). The location is convenient and parking was easy. The spiral staircase that leads to the rooftop cupola was so cool! We will definitely be back! Do not skip the tour with Mrs, Linda!
To be honest we had planned a Viking cruise to the Baltic for our 50th wedding anniversary from June 6-19 but it was canceled. So Plan B. We had no other plan! Then I remembered seeing stories and photos about Savannah and Charleston in the Southern Living magazine and a Charleston photo of the Wentworth in particular. Plan B. We added a few more stops but for the anniversary weekend, it was the Wentworth Mansion. Wow! We got a very nice room, practically a suite, and had our dinner in its Circa 1886 restaurant, also amazing! The staff is wonderful, the home is beautiful, and the restaurant is the best ever and breakfast too! Not cheap by any means but for something this big, priceless!
The place is so charming. The people that work there so friendly and accommodating. We loved Charleston. Very quaint town with great food and shopping. Staying at the mansion gives you the full Charleston feel. I would highly recommend It.
We had never been to Charleston and wanted to stay at a historical property. Wentworth Mansion fit that bill. We booked the Grande Mansion Suite for 4 nights. The room is stunning and amenities are what should be expected at this price point. Fresh flowers were lovely to have and the other goodies like bath salts and treats were delightful! They also carry my favorite bath soaps and shampoos (Gilchrist & Soames) so I really enjoyed the full line they provided. However, there were room problems. The drapes in master never fully closed as they were broken. I brought this to the attention of staff the next morning. They remained broken throughout our stay and we used the shutters as best we could, but on sunny mornings we woke to sun in our eyes given location of room. My husband also wiped off some woodwork in our suite and thick dust came off. Clearly details that had been overlooked. But, the biggest issue I had with this suite was the “inside” noise. Street noise outside was barely noticeable. I think any other room on this property would be fairly quiet, however this suite, as others mentioned, is off the lobby. I had to fall asleep with white noise on my phone. You hear them dumping ice in the cooler very early, guests chatting as they come for coffee, etc. I think a sign should be in the lobby until at least 8 am when guests are staying in the suite asking people to kindly respect sleeping guests off lobby. Yes, some people are never quiet, but most would be respectful. Some may not even realize there are guest rooms off the lobby. I’m one of many that doesn’t like to be awoken before 7 am on vacation. Maybe providing a white noise machine in this room would be an added benefit to those who don’t have an app on their phone like I had. I also think moving the coffee station in the morning to the location where wine and appetizers are served in the evenings is a better spot! The room is smaller and voices will not reverberate given a lower ceiling. Noise is really why I gave a 4 vs. 5 rating, as vacations are meant to be restful. Breakfasts were excellent and provide a lovely assortment. Cocktail hour was a great time to meet other guests. Grounds were well-maintained and most lovely. We enjoyed our stay and it was memorable for many of the good things. They pre-arranged for a driver from airport and then back which was also nice to have at $60 each way. Really a lovely place to enjoy a stay in Charleston while being close to many attractions. Dinner in the restaurant was also enjoyable the one night we stayed on property. I wrote a separate review. …
What a wonderful experience. Stepping into the Wentworth Mansion was like going through a time portal to the Victorian era. The exterior and interior has been impeccably restored, and the ambience made for a very pleasant stay. We chose a stay at the Wentworth Mansion to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. All the staff made our stay very special and attended to our every need with southern charm. I would recommend the Wentworth Mansion to anyone who would like to experience the history of Charleston in a unique, comfortable, and historical setting.
