When I decided to book a spontaneous trip to the Vendue in Charleston, I spoke with Shane and reception and he was very helpful in guiding me to get the best rate possible for the room I wanted. The location of this hotel is wonderful and the rooftop bar is a lovely place to spend an evening. Mike is a warm and gracious host when it comes to the breakfast service in the morning. I was so pleased to see him doing temperature checks on all the employees. Danielle was instrumental in helping me not feel rushed during the checkout process and provided me with excellent service as well. I felt that the hotels social distancing and sanitary policies were very well done.
Perfect location. Shane in guest services was really accommodating and helpful - great follow up. The room was a nice size - could use a coat of paint as there were some dirty smudges. Fireplace is a realty nice touch. Can’t beat the roof top view.
Great location in the middle of Charleston Historic district. Easy walk to waterfront, parks, tours and restaurants. Rooms were clean and had all the amenities you need. Staff was great. Reserved parking is available but a little bit of a walk, so drop off your luggage. Limited space and a cost per night. Resident Artists and Artwork on site, interesting to look around. Would stay here again.
First of all, it must be said that the staff here is OUTSTANDING. The front desk, the bellmen (especially Michael), the bartender: all were attentive, friendly, and bent over backwards to make our brief visit here a joy. The concept of this boutique hotel is also FABULOUS. It’s upscale but not stuffy, and there are unique original paintings and artistic installations throughout the facility. I wish I’d had more time to browse around, as much of what I did see was really compelling. Also, the bar (with terrific live music providing a perfect vibe) and the on site restaurant are both superb. But when it comes right down to it, a hotel’s main business is to provide a safe, peaceful, comfortable place to sleep for the night. I’m sad to say that, as delightful as my evening and as pleasant as my morning both were, the overnight was pretty awful for me. We’d booked our room last minute on the hotel site, which ushered us toward a bargain rate on a queen bed room. We didn’t mind upon arrival that the room was very small, and found the exposed original crooked wood floors to be charming. Alas, this room has problems that overshadow the charm. It is near a stairwell and, it seems, mechanicals that were intermittently very noisy all night long. Rowdy people (possibly rooftop bar patrons) were also very noisy in that stairwell late in the evening, but when I reached for the phone to lodge concerns, I discovered that the phone did not work. Worst of all, the bed was so lumpy and squeaky! I slept poorly, and every toss and turn I made to try and get comfortable caused loud noises. Other details — like a dinged up soap dish, damage to the moulding inside the bathroom door, visible mold under an apparent patch to a repaired leak, and a broken towel bar — all disallow for the five star rating that I wish I could leave for this otherwise very pleasant and beautiful place. It may just be that the newish management still needs to get to this corner of the facility, and that other rooms can deliver on that restful night of sleep that every traveler needs! We will give them another chance because the folks there are really pros at making you feel welcome. Lumpy mattresses can be replaced much more easily than grumpy employees! …
The Vendue is simply perfect. The staff is friendly and professional, accommodations impeccable, and the food is delicious! The beds are most comfortable, and our room had a fireplace! The artwork is unique and adds a wonderful flare to each part of the hotel. The Vendue Rooftop bar is very festive with the best atmosphere and vibe, and the Revival Restaurant, also on site, is Charleston’s finest cuisine and service. I highly recommend the Vendue Hotel.
