We have never visited Charleston, it was a very pleasant visit. It started with Jessica the Concierge at Kings Courtyard Inn, she quickly assisted us with questions we had. We were upgraded to room 605. the room had simiiar characteristics of the past but with modern amenities. This suite had a spacious living room, the bedroom was just as nice.... More

HOTEL’S FAVORITE REVIEW
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2016

We really enjoyed our two night stay at the hotel. Breakfast in the room was complimentary, the courtyards were gorgeous and the location was very convenient. It's a great place to stay in Charleston that really completes the experience. Despite being a "historic" hotel, our room had all the modern amenities of a new large hotel, plus the charm. More

We stayed in this nice historic place for three days. Location, service and hospitality were great. Reception with late afternoon wine and Hors d'oeuvres and service of sherry in the evening were nice. The breakfast had the same very basic menu every day. However, right around the corner there is a great place for breakfast - Toast restaurant.

Beautiful old building on King Street... the style reminded me a lot of New Orleans, with courtyards and fountains. This is a quaint location with very personable service.... breakfast was complimentary & the daily wine tasting/sherry service was a huge bonus!! The room was very comfortable.

Fantastic Inn! Great staff.... Polite, knowledgeable, and most helpful. Everybody at the front desk was helpful. The person we had the most interaction with was Carolyn, but the other front desk people were all stellar as well. The room had a definite 18th century ambience, with reproduction antique furniture, hardwood floors and oriental rugs. This was a standard King room.... More

My wife and I and our small Yorkie stayed at Kings Courtyard Inn September 6-8 and had a wonderful time there. You will be hard-pressed to find a nicer hotel in the historic district, that is so close to everything you'd ever want to see in Charleston, for a room rate close to half of the snootier hotels in that... My wife and I stayed here over the labor day weekend, drove through tropical storm Hermine to get here. A nice quaint inn, great location to shopping and the market Street area. Overall a nice place to stay, nothing fancy but just right for us. Very friendly and helpful staff.

I stayed in a 2/2 suite which was perfect for a girls getaway week. Very few hotels can offer those accomodations. The rooms were spacious, clean and the bathrooms were modern. Each bedroom/bath had a small refridgerator. The hotel offered a continental breakfast, wine and cheese each evening for an hour and a variety of Sherry all evening long. The... More

This is a historic town and they are proud of that. Many places like to keep their decor and style historic as well, and this one does it well. The location is 2 blocks from everything and perfect, as not right in the midst of the nightlife. The bathroom is fully updated and more than adequate. They tried to keep... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in 1853, Kings Courtyard Inn is one of downtown Charleston, South Carolina's most historic inns. Architect Francis D. Lee designed the three-story antebellum structure in the Greek revival style with unusual Egyptian detail. The building is one of King Street's largest and oldest structures, and has had many uses during its 150 year existence. The building has housed high quality shops, private residences and at one time, the upper floors served as hotel rooms for plantation owners, shipping interests and merchant guests. Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Kings Courtyard Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches and only a block away from the City Market. Here, one may explore interesting shops or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city's many delightful restaurants. ... more   less
