Loved this historic small hotel. Staff was helpful, room was large and very comfortable. LOVED having room service for breakfast (free w/our stay). Courtyards were relaxing. Hotel was quiet. Location was perfect. Easy, cheap parking. Would certainly stay here again!

This is hotel made up of four historic buildings on King Street and close to the Market. Our room was large and tastefully decorated in a period style, complete with four poster bed. The air-conditioning worked really well, important given the temperature outside. The staff are very helpful and go out of their way to accommodate ones needs. There are... More

We enjoyed a sisters' trip and my husband and son came along for the ride - we all enjoyed the hotel. The historic building was easy to find, although the King Street entrance is only a doorway, so easy to miss. The inner courtyards provided a relaxed ambiance while enjoying the continental breakfast, as well as afternoon wine and cheese.... More

Located near many restaraunts and attractions. On a main Street but the room was quiet. Clean rooms and very helpful staff. The pool was small but it was never crowded. Plenty of parking available. I will be back.

We stayed at the Kings Courtyard and parked our car in the parking lot and walked everywhere! They were very helpful with recommendations on eating and sightseeing. It is a historic hotel so it is a little old but we enjoyed our stay! Nice wine happy hour and nice breakfast .

Let me start by saying that I am a frequent traveler to Charleston and I have stayed at several different places over the years. I had never stayed at Kings Courtyard Inn before--my husband booked us here for a long weekend because of the price and the location. It turned out to be a fantastic find and we will stay... More

We stayed for 2 nites and could not wait to check out of this unkempt, horrible Inn. We frequent Charleston often and have stayed in many Hotel's, Inns's and B & B's. This was by far the worst. The room was filthy dirty with awful stains on the walls of the bedroom and bathroom areas. We took several pictures of... More

Thank you for sharing feedback about your stay. We are very sorry our innkeeper didn’t have the opportunity to talk to you in person about the issues with your room. We sincerely apologize for your disappointment. Our innkeeper was aware of your concerns, but unfortunately missed you during the check out process. Unfortunately, bugs are common in the area, and... Beautiful bed and breakfast, especially if you like a more private experience. Loved everything here. Our room had a 10 ft ceiling and period trim, doors, etc. Modern bath. There are a number of rooms here but it does not feel like a typical hotel at all, they are arranged down little halls and bends and overlooks. The courtyards are... More

If you can handle old world, this may be for you. It reminded me of my first trip to Europe over 40 years ago. No front desk. Just someone to go over your reservation and give you your keys. Note that I said keys not some piece of plastic that may or may not work all the time. Rooms are... More

The KCI is located in a great location in the market district of Charleston. The historic market and the new shopping along King Street are all walking distance/downstairs! The inside of the hotel is very historic, and the internal courtyard is lovely. The elevators might need some renovations. The room was a very good size and the renovated bathroom brings... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in 1853, Kings Courtyard Inn is one of downtown Charleston, South Carolina's most historic inns. Architect Francis D. Lee designed the three-story antebellum structure in the Greek revival style with unusual Egyptian detail. The building is one of King Street's largest and oldest structures, and has had many uses during its 150 year existence. The building has housed high quality shops, private residences and at one time, the upper floors served as hotel rooms for plantation owners, shipping interests and merchant guests. Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Kings Courtyard Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches and only a block away from the City Market. Here, one may explore interesting shops or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city's many delightful restaurants. ... more   less
