Our group of six ladies stayed at the John Rutledge House last weekend to celebrate my niece's 35th birthday. Location was great...easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Accommodations were spacious and comfortable (we stayed in 3 deluxe rooms on the top floor in the main house) with historic charm but all of the modern amenities. We loved the delicious...

I happily recommend the John Rutledge House Inn because the staff is so friendly, the accommodations are so comfortable and historical and the food is very good. Granted it provides a daily breakfast either in your room or the ball room, thre is also a daily tea time with hors oeuvres and sherry and brandy at 8pm. The staff is...

These folks are extremely dog friendly but nothing suffers from it. We stayed in one of the carriage house rooms which was comfortable, elegant and clean. The view from the courtyard is amazing. Breakfast to order was provided in our room. I have nothing but good things to say about this inn.

First stayed at John Rutledge House in the late 1980s, within its first year or two of operation. That was our first trip to Charleston, a city we love, and we honeymooned at the Inn, in one of the grand suites, 23 years ago. We have revisited many times, and this is obviously a sentimental favorite. We love the location...

As a history buff, I'm thrilled I was able to stay in the former home of John Rutledge one of my favorite figures from the War for Independence. If this was the Presidential Election of 1788-1789 and I was a presidential elector I also would've cast my vote for him. That being said, my wife and I had a great...

We stayed at the John Rutledge House about 20 years ago, and came back with some friends recently. It was as I remembered - a nicely restored inn that kept its historical character while adding modern conveniences. Room was nice. Only room related complaint is that one hears a lot of "creaking" on the lower floor, and the bath towels...

The John Rutledge House is a wonderful venue in historic Charleston. And it's not often that someplace this nice is also pet friendly. The staff is professional, friendly and helpful. The Inn's ambiance and facilities are upscale and worthy of the historic neighborhood. Our carriage house room was large, well-furnished, and featured a comfortable Tempur-Pedic bed. Despite the church steeples...

The John Rutledge was just great. All of the staff were friendly and very accommodating. They were very knowledgeable about the area and quick to guide us in the right direction. The rooms were extremely comfortable. The breakfast was served in a timely manor with a choice of eating in your room, the ballroom or another area in the hotel....

A warm welcome, a beautiful historic home and a very comfortable room made for an exceptional stay. Location was perfect and the staff so accommodating! Official Description (provided by the hotel)
America's Most Historic Inn. John Rutledge, one of the fifty-five signers of the U.S. Constitution, built his home in 1763. Now exquisitely restored, it is one of only fifteen homes belonging to those signers to survive - and the only one to now accommodate overnight hotel guests. History records that George Washington called here in 1791. An entry in his diary shows a breakfast with Mrs. Rutledge. A loving rejuvenation has restored the beautiful details of the home's 18th and 19th century architecture: the elaborately carved Italian marble fireplaces, the original plaster moldings, the inlaid floors and the graceful ironwork. The John Rutledge House Inn offers nineteen guest rooms within a complex of three buildings. One may choose between the elegance of rooms and spacious suites in the original grand residence or the charm and seclusion of rooms in the inn's two carriage houses. Antiques and historically accurate reproductions give each room its own warmth and distinction. John Rutledge House Inn is proud to be a founding hotel in Historic Hotels of America, as well as Select Registry - Distinguished Inns of America and Classic Inns of the South. Guests may leave cars parked on-site for their entire stay because the best of this beautiful port city is just beyond the doors of the John Rutledge House Inn. The city's finest restaurants, theaters, shops, and the Old City Market are all in short walking distance. The gorgeous residential area "South of Broad" begins directly opposite the Inn. A stay in this elegant antebellum bed and breakfast offers the opportunity to experience history as well as the warm hospitality for which the South is justly famous. ... more   less
