If you're looking for a great place to stay in then historic district, this is the place. We stayed in the Ashely Carriage House and I felt like I was transformed to a different era. Very nice touches, such as afternoon tea and brandy/port/sherry in the evenings topped off the stay. Highly Recommend!
Whenever we visit family in Charleston, I try to spend at least one night in one of the many historic inns. I was so happy to get a reservation at the John Rutledge Inn (I've tried before, but it's very busy), that I went straight from the airport to the inn and after a short discussion with the concierge realized that I'd arrived 2 days early for my reservation! No worries, we could stay with family. It was worth the wait! Our room (#8) was heavenly and the staff was wonderful. It felt like we were guests in a friend's home. Staying here is definitely a special treat!
The house and courtyard has so much history and charm! It is very well situated close to so many restaurants and shops! A very helpful and knowledgeable crew work there who constantly are there to help with any questions. We absolutely loved it and would love to come back again!!
My sons and I visited the John Rutledge House Inn during spring break. We made a last minute reservation and we were not disappointed! The House is beautiful and located in a fabulous location for exploring the Historic district by foot. The concierges provide top notch southern hospitality and made great recommendations for dining. Our room was large, clean, and full of charm. We enjoyed eating breakfast there each morning. The courtyard and balcony are perfect to unwind after a day of sightseeing. I would highly recommend the John Rutledge House Inn and would love to visit again!
Great place to stay in Charleston! Wonderful if traveling with a dog. Close to Bay Street. Just around the corner from Millers All Day, Pogan's Porch & Husk. Excellent staff. Beautiful rooms. Will be back!
Each year on our trip from beautiful Amelia Island, Florida to freezing cold Fayetteville, PA, we stop for 4 or 5 days in charming Charleston. Over the years we have stayed in lovely Inns. For the last 2 years we spent our time at The John Rutledge House in downtown Charleston. We stay in one of the Carriage House accommodations on the first floor. The room is charming, convenient to the beautiful courtyard, and extremely clean! Breakfast can be served in the courtyard. Even if it is a chilly morning. Eating in the courtyard is so peaceful. The Ballroom in the original mansion is used for breakfast service as well. The Inn is walkable to many of the museums, fabulous restaurants, shopping and parks by the water. The staff at The John Rutledge House is exceptional! They are kind, helpful, and always have a smile. This Inn is the perfect respite for our journey home. Mary Lou Hirshmiller…
Amazing antebellum mansion within walking distance of great restaurants, Rainbow Row, the waterfront, the upscale shopping of King Street, the ferry servicing Fort Sumter and the City Market, all of which we enjoyed during our 3 day stay. We made the short drive to Sullivan's Island to explore also. The staff was all very helpful, especially the concierges and the server of our great breakfasts, Maurice. We will go back.
My husband and I (and our dog) had an amazing stay at the John Rutledge Inn! The room was very spacious, and the staff were extremely nice and attentive! They even left treats for our pup! We had amazing complimentary breakfast in our room each morning and the complimentary drinks every night, weren’t bad either! We will definitely be back! Thanks for a great stay!
From the time I booked our reservation the staff and facility was perfect. We were celebrating my Mom's milestone birthday and were greeted with complimentary champagne. The concierge Margo went above and beyond to help us get great reservations for restaurants and activities while we were there. Our breakfast was brought to our room and was amazingly tasty. The afternoon tea was such a nice treat too. So much history and character in this inn, perfectly located for a great trip to Charleston! 10/10 would recommend!
We’d stay at this lovely inn again for the staff alone. They genuinely wanted us to enjoy our stay and offered umbrellas, help with luggage and help finding the nearby parking in the dark when we arrived late. Breakfast, ordered the night ahead, was brought to us wherever we wanted and the upstairs balcony was a great spot to have it. We loved being able to walk to so many areas right from the inn. Dining at Circa 1886 was exceptional and a wonderful memory. Take advantage of the guest 3-course meal offer and reserve ahead. If you can snag one of the few booth alcoves, your dinner will be even more special.
