Where to begin. I had never been to the city and was excited about the Elliot Inn based on the website. Very disappointed in the condition and smell of the room. Several bugs and old furnishings. We got bikes each day. The first day was great. The second day the person up front acted as if he was mad at us for asking for bikes ; the bikes needing air. He started airing up the tires and getting madder and madder. He finally threw the pump down and went inside leaving us standing there outside to ride whether they had air or not. Then we get home the last night to a loud band playing at a wedding at our back door. We could not turn on the TV loud enough to drown out the band. We could not even carry on a conversation without yelling. We had to get up early for a 9 hour drive home and could not go to sleep. When we called the front desk they kept hangin up on us. Very disappointed. All in for around $1400 for three nights. Horrible…
The place is great for location and inexpensive parking. The place is cute but unfortunately, our room was not clean. Hair on the bed and wine glass not cleaned. Because there is no one managing the place after 10:00, we couldn't do anything about it other than turn our sheets inside out and deal with it. We told the person at the desk in the morning and she apologized. It might have been smarter for the front desk to not only apologize but to offer some money off of the room rate. Overall this place is really ok but due to our experience, our ratting is low.
Hotel and grounds overall are dirty and needs some TLC. Sheets were dirty. There was no housekeeping, which is not that unusual in a post-COVID world. No wine or cheese reception as indicated on the website. Hotel needs to be updated and cleaned.
We just left and we loved staying here. It quaint, has a beautiful courtyard and clean rooms. Starting at the front desk, everyone is polite, helpful and friendly. Our room was small but clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom was a great size for the age of the hotel. There was a small frigerator as well which was handy. There was always ice water and sometimes lemonade at a table in the courtyard and for breakfast there was fruit, granola bars, muffins and some cinnamon donuts at times. It is in a great location within walking distance of Waterfront Park and The Market. Close to Toast all Day and Miller's for breakfast. Next to 82 Street, Husk, and Poogans for dinner. Great location, great atmosphere, great place to stay!
We paid $350 per night for a small basic room that felt like a motel. The air conditioning was very noisy. We looked into a bathroom when the window was open. There was no way to stop the light from outside coming into the room. The breakfast foods were vey basic. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are out of other options.
Excellent location. Rooms are spacious and very adequate. But overall experience is more like a motel. There is no daily cleaning service, no breakfast (except some pastries/cereal bars on weekends) and the downstairs 'common area' is messy in appearance and not at all welcoming. More like a converted car-park than a patio. Reception staff were not particularly friendly, nor helpful. For under $180 this is a great place, for more than that, it feels you are paying hotel prices for a motel experience.
The entire staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. The ambiance of the Inn was absolutely charming and our room was well appointed and very comfortable. The location cannot be beat, everything is within walking distance, including many fabulous dining options.
We were really looking forward to our stay but the pictures were deceiving. The hotel has an excellent location but that was about all it had going for it. Our room had peeling paint, roaches, and a strong musty/mouldy smell which bothered our allergies the entire stay. There were no bicycles as advertised, the internet didn't work, and the breakfast was just a few packaged bars to go. In addition, we were under the impression we were on the courtyard when in reality we were on the 3rd story overlooking the metal roof over the courtyard. Overall, a disappointing experience for the price.
The staff was friendly and the room was clean, loved the hardwood floors instead of carpet. They offer ice water all day and have coffee and a “grab-and-go” breakfast each morning which was really nice to enjoy in their lovely courtyard.
We really appreciated the closeness to downtown that Elliott House provided and enjoyed the parking garage across the street. When we decide to return to Charleston, Elliott House will be our first choice.
