My friend and I loved our stay at the Francis Marion. Our room was very clean, as was the entire hotel. I loved the historical vibe. Every employee we encountered was very helpful and friendly. The young gentlemen who helped us with our luggage both upon arrival and departure were impressive, helpful, and kind. Michael helped us when we arrived, and I am so sorry but I do not remember the gentleman's name who helped us when we left. The location is perfect. It's right in the middle of King Street - close to restaurants, bars, shopping, and the waterfront. Be sure to walk around everywhere to fully appreciate the gorgeous city of Charleston. The price was also perfect. The price was lower than others in the area and lower than I ever remember paying at other places we've stayed. The value for the price is unbeatable. I highly recommend the Francis Marion and would definitely return!

Hotel's Favorite
We decided to splurge and treat ourselves to the four star Francis Marion historic hotel. The hotel is a short walking distance to wonderful restaurants, quaint shops, and interesting row homes dating back to the 17th century. The staff at the hotel treated us like royalty and made us feel welcome like we were family. Their exemplary service included a surprise amenity delivered to our room, a birthday card from Michael (the bellman wishing us a happy birthday). Another big plus was our room had a spectacular view of the harbor and a brilliant morning sunrise. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant called the Swamp Fox. Shawn (the bartender) had great choices of local draft beer and told us his shrimp & grits was as good as any in Charleston. Shawn was 100% right about how good the food was at the Swamp Fox. We loved the shrimp & grits. The next morning we had breakfast at the Swamp Fox and told our server Sylvie it was Angela's birthday. Sylvie was so energetic to make sure our breakfast was a great experience and at the end of our meal she gave us chocolate covered strawberries with a birthday candle and sang happy birthday to Angela in her great french accent. Our experience staying at the Francis Marion hotel was totally enjoyable, and one we will always remember. Neil, at the front desk when checking us out, said it perfectly when I asked him who were some of the most famous people that stayed at your hotel and he said Elvis Presley and you. Sincerely, Tim & Angela

I stayed with my family of 4 and we had a suite, so plenty of room. The only downside was the bathroom - quite small. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They guys at the valet stand were extremely helpful. Suggest you read about Francis Marion and his moniker as the Swamp Fox. Its part of history. The only downside was the daily cleaning service. We were skipped over and had to call to request clean towels. Otherwise, had a great experience.

We stayed at this hotel in June for 2 nights. The hotel is very historical located downtown within walking distance of everything. We enjoyed our stay here. The staff was amazing and our room was clean and comfortable. I've read other reviews criticizing the size of the bathroom. Yes, they are small but serves the purpose with a shower, toilet, sink and vanity. Didn't bother me in the least as I do not spend hours in the bathroom as I would rather be out enjoying what Charleston has to offer. Would recommend this hotel! Great location within walking distance of many attractions also a great staff!!

This is a wonderful HISTORIC hotel in downtown Charleston. It has charm that we love in a hotel. It has that historic classy feel to it. It’s like stepping back in time to some degree.. I have smell sensitivity and I am happy to say this hotel has no unwanted odors! It smelled clean. It was a very clean hotel. I was happy they also offered housekeeping each day. That is something since COVID we rarely see. There were a few little things I could see would cause bad reviews. There were a few chipped paint places. But it’s a historical hotel, so it’s expected. We were at the end of the hall and didn’t have an issue with noise. Around 10 am or so we could hear the housekeeping coming to rooms to clean. The bellboy, Liam, was very nice and gave us some great suggestions for the area. A perk was they offered complementary water bottles in the room! My only complaint would be the blanket wasn’t as thick as I prefer. But was perfect for my husband! We booked through Expedia and actually felt the price was a good price for being downtown. You do pay for parking, but that has been the case for all hotels we stay at in a downtown area. From a very picky hotel goer, this is a great hotel to stay at!
