The Francis Marion is a "grand old dame". Even with extensive remodeling, (Wow! what a lovely lobby!) it can't hide some of the "faults" that come with an older building. The rooms were small with the bathroom being even smaller. I do need to mention the entire staff was most professional, courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, the most distracting fact of my four night stay was the location. Oh, yes it is centrally located and convenient to many shops and restaurants. LOUD traffic noise, Then there are the buskers and their loud music at Marion Square which start in at around 10 AM and continues until 5 or 6. But there is no relief with the rooftop bar taking over with their even louder music that lasts EVERY night until 11. Perhaps there are some rooms in the hotel that are not subject to this noise, but I doubt it........ I would not return because of the noise level that unfortunately is beyond the hotel's control.…
Quality, Quality, Quality! Gorgeous on every level, Historic details in this amazing hotel are so beautifully kept up it looks new. The staff is wonderful. True Southern Hospitality. The restaurant was exceptional, the location was great, I can't say enough.
The lobby area was stately and beautiful. We had a 2 queen bed room, which was fine. However, the bathroom was so small you could sit on the toilet and brush your teeth in the sink at the same time! As I said, the lobby was beautiful.
Nice boutique hotel. Bathrooms are very small but a nice hotel with nice decor. A Starbuck inside makes it desirable. There are a great deal of homeless people in this area and at the SB. Great location.
Our overall experience was very nice. All of the staff was friendly and helpful, including in the restaurant/bar. The lobby was beautiful and the rooms were very nice as well. We needed to call down for more towels and they were fairly prompt completing our request. The location is great for walking to local “hot” spots and shopping!
The location is great! We were disappointed with the bathrooms - extremely small, very hard to move around, poor lighting. The bedroom was also small. Two of the drawers would not shut, which was difficult to move around. The breakfast was great each morning. The bar is so tiny - our crowd of 20 could not fit, so we went to The Dewberry twice for drinks.
When we arrived, I had reserved a King Room, but we were put in a musty smelling room with 2 double beds, not adequate since we are a married couple. When I called down, the front desk told me they had nothing else. I told them I would be checking out tomorrow, and they suddenly found a room with a king bed. When we went down, the front desk employee (long blond hair, about 2AM) didn't address me and through the new keys on the counter without a word. When we opened the door on our new room, the lock plate fell off with both screws. The door jam was damaged. The room had cracked paint, and there was paper towels sticking out of space around the sprinkler system. Overall it was livable, but very poor shape. It was clean and bed was comfortable.
Very clean, staff was great and awesome location. Swamp Fox restaurant is delish! Only complaint would be with the parking garage, the elevator wasn't working which made it very hard to deal with luggage.
Beautiful historic property right in the middle of Charleston. Friendly, helpful staff. Room was dated, but comfortable. Parking not actually in hotel, but very close and convenient. Freshly baked warm cookies were a fun afternoon treat!
Room was spacious and clean, bathroom was small, bed was comfortable but A/C unit was a little noisy. Overall the room conditions were good. The hotel is in need of some updates which I think they are doing now. Adding complimentary breakfast would be nice.
