This is a gorgeous historic hotel which is a quick walk to all points of interest around the market and the battery and next to King street. The evening concierge, Bill, was most helpful in guiding us through the city's "must see" spots and suggesting restaurants. My only disappointment was that I paid extra for a "higher" room with a view. We were on the sixth floor and had a view of nothing but buildings (Not a cityscape). I'm not sure what the view would've looked like even two floors up. I have stayed here before and paid for a "room with a view" which was of the harbor. This view was the very reason I chose Francis Marion above other places I have stayed. I don't know at what floor they should charge extra money but the sixth (total twelve) is not it.
My daughter and I took my mom on one of her “bucket list” trips to Charleston. She is a nurse/caregiver for my brother and rarely gets away for extended periods of time. Francis Marion Hotel proved to be the perfect place for her to escape. She absolutely loved the historical ambiance. The location is in the Historic District and within walking distance of everything we did downtown. The front desk, bellmen, and housekeeping staff were very hospitable and gracious. Shoutouts to Carlos, Natosha, and Suzie!!! Francis Marion is making an exceptional effort to follow CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19. Everything we needed was only a phone call away or available at the front desk as we maintained our room. We highly recommend the Swamp Fox restaurant, especially coming in on first night for dinner. Their shrimp and grits were some of the best I have ever had. Lizzie, our waitress, was very kind and helpful. It is important to note this is an historic hotel, so there’s obvious signs of age (which we love), very small bathrooms, and old style HVAC wall units. If we are ever blessed with the opportunity to return to Charleston, we will most definitely choose the Francis Marion again!!!…
This is a beautiful hotel in historic Charleston smack dab in the middle of wonderful boutique shopping and great restaurants, French bakeries and coffee shops. The lobby is absolutely breathtaking and was especially so this trip because it was decorated for the holidays. This is the fifth time I have stayed at this hotel and each time the service has been beyond exceptional. And this time I took particular notice of the cleanliness which was also excellent in light of our current health crisis. I highly recommend this hotel. The rooms may seem a tad old fashion, but that is part of the charm. Ask for a City View Room. The view of the church tower with the clock is amazing. I didn’t use the fitness center but it was very well stocked with cardio and other weight training and exercise equipment. When encountering staff members in the hallways everyone always greets you with a pleasant smile. The bellman are always on top of their game. Having the Starbucks in the lobby is also an added plus. There may be more new and trendy or brand recognized hotels in the immediate area but this is still my favorite place to stay.…
We recently stayed here for a girls trip. Our view from the view overlooked King Street, so we got to see the giant Christmas tree lit up!. The rooms were nice sized, comfortable bed, but the bathroom is tiny! Like cruise ship bathroom small! We guy massages at the spa which were wonderful. Everything we wanted to see and do were just a short walk away! The front desk provided us with a map, and were very helpful with other questions throughout our stay. There is also a Starbucks in the hotel, but the hours listed on the door are not correct!
When we arrived , we were greeted at the counter by a very pleasant staff member . She gave us a map of the city and gave us recommendations of things to do and places to dine at. We were exhausted the first night so decided to get room service. We ordered the truffle burger, fried chicken sandwich ,collard greens , Mac n cheese, and pecan pie. All absolutely delicious .our room had 2 closets as well as 2 smaller then small bathrooms. My shower went like this.... turned the water on to automatically scolding hot ... then it went to freezing cold . There was no in between. LITERALLY NO IN BETWEEN... I had my husband check out the other shower and that one was fine with temperatures so I changed showers ( guess having 2 showers was a good thing). Our room was plenty big, pretty colors and paintings. The bed was comfortable( pillows not so much). Turned the air on because it was quite warm when we arrived and the air conditioner was so loud turning on and off... kept waking us up. 2nd night we had the joy (joking) of having a neighbor with a dog as well as a dog across the hall.the rules state you cannot leave the animal alone in the room and apparently our next door neighbor disregarded that and left for a few hours . After a couple hours of whining and barking, we called the front desk just to be told” oh.. yeah they aren’t allowed to just leave the dog there”. It continued on until they got back. We were woken up at 7:30 by the dog barking and then the dog across the hall started barking as well . Felt like we were in a dog kennel. It’s nice you allow people with pets but you could lose many customers by not confronting the situation. Very disappointed by the non handling of it. We brought it up to the staff when checking out and they knocked off $50 and took off the parking fees but we weren’t after a discount. With all the fine hotels around Charleston .... we will look elsewhere next time in the area. Would not recommend!!…
