We attended the Jazz Festival in Newport this past weekend and stayed at Shamrock Farms. It is conveniently located 20 minutes from Newport and was an easy drive to the festival. Amazingly, at Shamrock Farms you felt that you had crossed the pond an ocean away from the congested traffic of festival packed Newport. In 20 minutes you were home in an idyllic countryside. And the room rate was a fraction of Newport's average, without a 3 night minimum. The location, ambiance and price were secondary to the hospitality offered by the proprietor William. A big Irishman who tends to the family farm in Ireland after the Newport season ends, he is also a Newport native who can trace the Festival's history back to it's origins. He prepare breakfast with care and the results are amazing muffins, different at each breakfast, and French toast which if finished will require a full day of farming (or sitting on a beach chair enjoying the jazz) to work off . William's sincere and easy manner conveys true friendship. Breakfast was spent enjoying the food and conversation among the host and guests as you would among family. The accommodations were spacious, comfortable and well in keeping with Newport's finest B&Bs.

We had a great visit at this quiet farm, thanks to the hospitality of the wonderul inn-keeper, William. Our spacious room was very neat and clean with a jacuzzi tub and shower. Delicious home-cookied breakfasts were prepared for us at 8:30am. If you prefer to sleep in, you can eat breakfast as late as 10:00. William served us a fruit salad with just-picked blackberries from his garden. He knows the area very well and can advise you on restaurants and other points of interest. The inn is a very interesting place to stay, rich with history, antiques and an Irish influence. Our room was one of only two rooms on the third floor, while the other two were on the second floor. The grounds are beautiful, parking is sufficient and drive to the beaches, Newport and Middletown is only a few minutes. Unfortunately, it closes on Oct. 31 for 6 months each year.

This B&B was an oasis in the hub-bub of summer in Newport for my husband and I. Beautiful gardens and spacious rooms with an exceptionally comfortable bed. Your innkeeper thinks of all the little details - down to remote controlled candles, dimmer lights and whirlpool tub for that romantic bath to the best homemade muffins EVER. We even had great WiFi for when the trip turned to business.

Stayed at the farm last weekend, as my fiancé and I were attending a wedding nearby. Great location, maybe 20 minutes from downtown Newport. Bill was an amazing host - he gave us a map of the island and showed us the best scenic routes into Newport. He also made us delicious (and huge) breakfasts! Yummy homemade muffins, pancakes, french toast, etc. We felt very spoiled every morning - what a great start to the day! Our room was lovely - cozy, huge, and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable, I slept like a baby every night! Free wifi was great for getting some work done. The grounds are beautiful with so many pretty flowers, and lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. Overall a wonderful stay, I highly recommend Shamrock Farm if you're planning a visit to the Newport area!

Allow yourself to imagine it and you're transported to a countryside in Ireland...my brother, sister and I and our spouses were in Rhode Island for a family wedding. The owner, Bill, has made the grounds, landscaping and beautiful old barn into a first rate bed and breakfast experience. My husband chose Shamrock Farms since he's a farmer and the website was beautiful. We couldn't have chosen a lovelier place and for the six of us it was like a little family reunion. The rooms are spacious, super comfortable and immaculate each with a fully appointed bathroom and jacuzzi. You just sink into the beautiful king sized bed and sleep through the night. The entire place is artfully decorated and appointed with comfortable antique furniture, photos and artifacts. The lilting Irish music is always playing softly in the background. Bill, the owner and chef took us on a tour of the buildings and grounds and entertained us with colorful stories of the B&B, Ireland and Rhode Island history. He is friendly, talented and just like a character who stepped right out of "The Quiet Man" movie. The Inn is located just minutes from the beach, shops and old mansions of Newport. Breakfast was wonderful...delicious home baked muffins, fresh fruit cups, french toast, eggs and bacon all beautifully presented. We will all absolutely be back for a return visit next autumn.

My fiancé and I stayed at the Shamrock Inn for the weekend while we attended a friends wedding. From the moment that we stepped into the property to the moment we left, the thing that stood out to me the most was how immaculate the property had been restored and maintained. The inn provides a rustic feel with all the modern accommodations that I come to expect when traveling. The owner Bill greeted us with a delicious Irish breakfast on Friday morning and gave us a great overview of how to enjoy Newport "like a local"! This was my first B&B experience and I loved avoiding the generic hotel chains and getting such a more relaxing and personalized experience. Would highly recommend!

This is our fourth time staying at the inn. We have loved each time. The location, the rooms - we've stayed in three different rooms - the ambiance and above all, the breakfast. William is a wonderful host. We'll come back again and would recommend Shamrock Farm to anyone.

So happy with this B&B. Super relaxing. Fantastic buildings on property and a great garden. Very engaged inn keepers (ask about days as a pro athlete for neat stories). Excellent launch spot for exploring the area or just staying put. Enjoy!

I was so happy we picked Portsmouth and the Shamrock Farm Inn for our rare two nights away without children. I couldn't find anything in Newport but it is so crowded there I would not have liked it anyway. The Inn is in a quiet area and only about 10 minutes from Newport. The rooms are large and more than comfortable. We stayed in the D. O'Shea Quarters. We were so relaxed we even used the Jacuzzi. The best though was William Conheeny, the Innkeeper. He is so charming and interesting to talk to. He took the time to tell us of a good bike route, park and restaurants to go to. The breakfasts were spectacular which is my favorite part of staying at B&B's. Unfortunately, I forgot to get his recipe for the muffins. We would not have enjoyed our time there as much as we did had it not been for William and his wonderful Inn.
