We stayed here once in July and August. Each time, it was very expensive per night, but it is during peak tourist season. We tried to justify the price due to their availability and our last minute trip with the location of the beach being directly across the street. It doesn’t get more convenient especially when the restroom was closed at the beach.

The July visit was not as relaxing and rejuvenating as planned. The weather was a bit stormy so we ended up in the room (#7) more than expected. The first night we woke up to an extremely loud noise that came from the bathroom when a toilet was flushed and when the shower ran. It was so alarming and unbearable, but no other room was available so we had to endure it to try and enjoy the short trip. It did not help that there was also a wedding reception being held in one of the end rooms. The group was very loud – even with A/C and tv on until close to midnight, but there was no way to control the large, drunk crowd who also used the parking lot displacing vehicles for paid guests. Aside from this wedding group, all other guests were respectful and abiding by normal quiet hours, and mask use. The next morning, other guests agreed that the noise was not appropriate and that the negative experience would justify staying somewhere else in the future. The room itself was outdated, had a carpet, which is odd in beach territory, but the fridge was functional enough, there was a/c, a tv and access to a microwave in the office. The morning coffee was appreciated, but the breakfast offering was lacking with pre-packaged items not muffins and bagels as I read was offered. The room appeared ok, very thematic, but not as clean as I’d hope for the price I paid. The little porch was nice, but not private enough if you wanted to sit outside and enjoy some peaceful views. Everyone on their porch is only a few feet away and facing a kid play area.

Due to lack of availability in other hotels and motels, we spent another weekend here in August. I specifically requested a different room and it was accommodated. The price was more, but again the accessibility to the beach felt worthwhile. This room was updated in appearance, which also gave it a more clean appearance. The fridge was clearly updated, slightly larger and much more efficient. It felt more justifiable for the weekend price. There was no issue with bathroom noise from neighboring guests, there was still coffee and (pre-packaged) breakfast items, but since parking was not a concern we were able to leave to get food and return to park in a spot in the lot. The beds were outdated and old so not as comfortable as the other room. Other guests were not as mask friendly, but everyone kept their distance so it felt safe. My only complaint this time was the guests smoking on the other side of the building. It seemed to blow directly into our room windows due to the wind direction so we didn’t get to enjoy the ocean breeze. After this stay, I would consider going back to the motel. I was really, really hesitant due to my initial visit, but the room itself restored my faith of a more enjoyable visit even if the price of the room was very expensive.

In Narragansett, where some hotels and motels only rely on their location as a selling point, the Anchor Motel is a step above and a breath of fresh air in that lovely oceanside area.

The location is still terrific in terms of the beach, as Scarborough beach is simply right across the street. While most of the restaurants are less than a ten minute drive away, most are not in walking distance, though the motel does offer coffee and breakfast.

The staff is both friendly and accommodating, helping us when we had questions or needed anything during our stay. The ocean view suite we stayed at was cozy, but made use of its space well. It had comfortable beds to sleep in and had an amazing view of the ocean across the street.

We were happy to discover that Narragansett can indeed be an enjoyable experience that's not completely reliant on just being close to the beach. The Anchor Motel was a very enjoyable experience and we look forward to going back when we wish to visit Narragansett in the future.

My husband and I stayed for 6 days in Room #11 and loved everything about the motel, especially being able to walk across the street to enjoy the beach. We were afraid the road would be busy, but it was only when the beach was open 9-6 each day. The staff is so nice, accommodating and friendly. One of the cleanest rooms we've stayed in and though not as spacious as the nearby Fairfield Inn or Hampton Inn in South Kingstown, we would definitely stay at The Anchor Motel again. We found the new check-in, other changes since Covid to be no problem when we needed anything. Either leaving items to be refreshed on our front porch or texting the staff was quick and easy. Hope to return next summer!

Thank you so much for the 5 stars, Debra! I’m really glad you found our new self check in procedures to be pretty simple. It’s very convenient for us too since we sometimes aren’t in the office to check in late arrivals in person. So glad you enjoyed your stay here and that you plan to return next summer! We are already taking bookings for next summer actually! We look forward to seeing you again soon! Have a great rest of the year!

We've been coming to the Anchor Motel every July for the last 5 or 6 years. We stay for about 2 nights to enjoy the really cute and clean rooms with all of your basic needs including a mini fridge, free WiFi, and of course free access to Scarborough beach (directly across the street)! The beach is the main reason why we stay, but even if there wasn't a beach so close, you really can't beat this family run motel with superb hospitality right in the heart of Narragansett, RI. We'll be back next year!

I spent 5 days at the Anchor and loved the striking beauty of the ocean and nature walks with panoramic ocean vistas. It's very special to be able to share such a location at a reasonable price. There are restaurants nearby as well as shopping locations. Mostly I like to go there to take photographs, walk the beach and paint. I can catch up on my reading, too. Fabulous Newport is not far away. All the rooms have a nice view, but I have a special one that costs a little more, but is worth it! This is a family owned business and they really care about people. Wonderful stay!

This is the best place in Narragansett. A wonderful family run place that is clean, comfortable, and mere feet from beautiful Scarborough Beach. Wifi access is sometimes limited, but who needs to be connected in such a beautiful place.

We just can't say enough about this little and gem of a motel. It's location is sublime, being just across the street from one of the most beautiful stretches of Beach that we have ever seen. The room was clean and cute and had all of the basics. The staff were accommodating and lovely to deal with. I would recommend that anybody who makes it to Rhode Island take the time to come to this beach, and if you do, stay at this motel.

We were pleasantly surprised with this motel. First of all the location was superb. Across the street was the beautiful Scarborough Beach. It had a wonderful walkway with numerous benches and gazebo's . It was safe at night walking since it had lighting down the walkway, The neighborhood was also very residential and easy to walk.
The motel was well kept and very clean. It was an older motel but it did not show it's age. We loved the porch in front of our room and where we spent a lot of time when not on the beach. Our motel neighbors both sides have been there numerous times. The room was comfortable and had just what was needed .
The family that runs the motel certainly show their love and devotion to making this a wonderful experience for guests.
We will be back!

We decided to take a long weekend and get away. Surprisingly they had a room. Parking is a little tight but manageable however you are right across from the beach. The rooms are clean, it’s no frills. Coffee is fresh and you can sit outside in the morning and enjoy it on your front porch while the sun is coming up. Love this place, look forward to going back again.
Also, the owners are on site and will help the best they can.

My sons and I stayed at the Motel for 4 nights, 5 days. It was great being able to walk directly across the street to the beach with the kids and the beach wagon. We didn’t have to pay for additional beach parking. The road to cross to the beach was never busy for us. The room was clean and there were plenty of towels and hot water after a day in the sand. The mini fridge/freezer was great for bringing our own food to make breakfasts and to-go lunches. The free coffee (and donuts) provided in the office in the morning was a wonderful addition and only a few steps away. Check in and out was very easy! We will be staying again!

Yes, smoking outside is OK as long and your window and door are closed so that no smoke gets into the room. Thank you!

Wow thanks, Charles!! Charles is absolutely correct. Most rooms have two double beds and all have an ocean view, wi-fi, fridge, A/C, tv and a small porch. In the office we have a microwave and free coffee each morning. The closest vineyard is in Newport, about a 30 minute drive with summer traffic. We begin taking reservations for July & August on March 1st @ 7am! Thank you for contacting us via TripAdvisor!

Not a lot of difference between our standard rooms and our B&B rooms. They have a similar set up but the B&B rooms are larger and therefore have two queen beds in each. The B&B rooms also share a common area and a very large porch so there is more space to spread out. But the standard rooms are a little closer to the beach so the ocean view is slightly better. The B&B rooms tend to be quieter but this area of Narragansett is pretty quiet overall anyways. Hope this helps! Christine Manager The Anchor Motel

Hi! We allow dogs October through April only, when we are less busy. Feel free to bring one then but please type it in to the request box when you reserve online so that we know in advance (so we don't put you near someone with allergies, etc). Thank you!
