My girlfriend were lucky enough to stay in the king suite here this last Saturday, 5/14/22. For starters, check in time was scheduled for 3pm. However we received a call from the front desk 2 houtrs early letting us know our room was ready and we could check early if we were in the area. Impressive. Check in was a breeze, with the friendliest front desk clerk I've ever met. She showed us to our sweet and gave us some history on the building. Our room was right next to check in, and the suite looks EXACTLY as it does in the pictures. Super clean, quiet with a fridge and nice mounted flat screen tv with enough channels to keep me entertained. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The beach is literally a 5 minute walk away. The only heads up is that there is nothing in Old Compton. I forgot to bring a jacket or sweatshirt and seeing that it was chilly and we wanted to sit by the fire at night, I needed one. There is no mall, Target, WalMart, etc anywhere near by. I was lucky to get the last XL hoodie at the really cool general store, otherwise we would have had to stay in the room all night. This is a 5 star location. Pricey, but worth every penny.…
Stayed here 2 nights for a bday , beautiful property but grossly overpriced for what is provided, needs a lot of maintenance work , shades and fireplaces not functional, cheap amenities and towels etc. That being said , Olivia, Nick and the housekeeping staff could not have been better given their limited resources. Clearly the group they are associated with is trying to bleed this for all they can. At this price point I’d expect much more in terms of quality, the complimentary nightly hordourves consisted of reheated frozen soup and and a 25 minute drive to any decent restaurant this is problematic. In short , great location , devoted staff but lacking the commitment on the part of ownership to deliver the amenities that should be provided for the price charged .
The setting is a ten, views are special. The nightly fee would suggest a four star and it is more of a two (maybe a three) for their lovely staff. A partially renovated ( only in “barn”)old historic stone house converted to a mess of different size awkward rooms in main House and renovated Motel 6 type level rooms in their “ barn”. Given they are only game in town they can afford to raise rates substantially, the view and proximity to shorelines are great, down right beautiful but it is criminal what they are charging even if you can because it indicates a different experience. No question, the nice staff makes up partially for the lack of amenities and the dreary dated and musty rooms; but they can do only so much. The main house is laden with heavily stucco walls painted and repainted in a drab color, the stairs are extremely steep ( dangerous and circular) and creaky. The rooms have very old commercial carpet and the airconditioning is marginal. We tripped their system four times and our room could not get below 75 degrees at night. It finally just stopped working in the evening and there was no one there to attend to the issue. The furniture is old and the quality of a Bobs warehouse, not an elegant hotel. In fairness the bathrooms have been renovated in a home depot or ikea quality with deep tubs that would be impossible or dangerous to manage for an older person. They are clean. The beds are low and believed to be foam the furniture is very low grade made solely of partical board not real wood. Their pillows are old and very large, old stuff and hard to sleep on.... There are no overhead lights in bedrooms. The florecent lights along with huge exit neon signs create a terrible atmosphere in hallways on the interior of the room. There was no fan in bathrooms. No proper closet only a cut out in hall with an old burgundy and gold curtain containing a bar and a fan and a ironing board. Awkward . The breakfast were thorough and what you might see at a comfort inn. Hard boiled eggs small, box cereal and yoplait yogurts. The pluses were the cold bottles of water in the lobby along with the hot croissants. Sadly the coffee was weak bit plentiful and other options are 20 mins away. It's a bit of a catch 22 and they know it. If you need to be near Little Compton you don't have an option but to rent a house.. I don't think they should take such egregious advantage unless they renovate and get better amenities like farm to table foods, bath goods from a higher brand than cvs, replace commercial dirty carpets, Paint everything, easier access to rooms aka new stairs, closets installed in bedrooms, airconditioning that works. If you book stay the barn is cleaner and more up to date. Area rugs were purchased in the last ten years let's say and overall more open clean and comfortable. Their suites run 1000 and their room 500 and not what you would expect for that pricing. A missed opportunity for a great hotelier to make this location a real find with proper protocols and level of service for their rates. The views are a ten the outside chairs are their best feature but you can't sleep there. I look forward to the owners putting some of their profits into a major renovation. I would happily go back!…
The Stone House Inn is situated in a gorgeous location, beautiful natural surroundings tucked away from any bustle. Our room was amazing, with a screened in balcony that overlooked both a pond and the ocean., and we could could hear the waves. The room also was decorated beautifully and featured a deep soaking tub, fireplace, super comfy bed and sitting area. A rare find of luxury without the hype that usually goes along with it. And Nick, performed his many duties (host, tour guide, conversationalist) exceptionally, going above and beyond with filling any and all requests.
There has never been a better experience in my life when it comes to guest service. I planned a birthday event for 10 girls and Nick and team went above and beyond. Not only did Nick help me organize a private dinner and lunch but his attention to our needs was amazing. The girls are still raving about it. They felt so special and that was really what it was all about! Thank you Nick and everyone at The Stone House because of you I had a great birthday and experience.
We stayed 1 night with family for a nice quiet get away. We enjoyed the charming and cozy accommodations in our oversized sweet with a gas fireplace . The staff was courteous and friendly . The weather was perfect for a short walk to the beach and than hanging out in the Adirondack chairs on the impeccable grounds . Will definitely visit again and would recommend to family and friends !!
My husband and I have had such a terrific vacation at the Stone House for the past two summers so we decided to return again this year. Once again, our expectations were exceeded. We stayed in the spacious and quiet Sisson suite which has lovely views overlooking the ocean. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast, including homemade muffins, on the verandah with its water views. Little Compton has so many activities to offer--biking, swimming at one of several stunning beaches, tennis, farm stands, a vineyard, and some outstanding restaurants in nearby towns. An added benefit is that Newport is only a 40 minute drive. This was our first travel since the COVID outbreak and we were somewhat nervous. However, we felt very safe at the Stone House--guests and staff wore masks inside, all surfaces were cleaned regularly, and the Inn and the town offer a tranquil and spacious environment in which to social distance. Most of all, we appreciated the efforts of Corey, the General Manager, and his staff to make us feel welcome and comfortable.…
We appreciated the beautiful property and surrounding area, the peacefulness of sitting on the porch and lawn, and the local wine and light meals served. But we booked this "luxury resort" for an exorbitant amount because of all the 5-star reviews, and that was a huge costly mistake. If we had a room like the photos on all the websites show, it could have been a very nice place to stay. What we got instead was an old, sad-looking room with cheap furniture, dingy carpeting, and stained sheets. There was no actual bathroom but rather a shower right by the door and a sink next to it and a toilet closet next to that (and nowhere nearby to put your towel and clothes when you shower except the floor). There were old hangers on a bar across one dormer window and an old-looking iron and ironing board stored in another dormer window (why there?), bad lighting, and a room so poorly laid out that you can't sit up in bed without banging your head on the slanted ceiling, which my husband did and has a huge painful welt to show for it. The trashcan had crud stuck on it, the windowsills and floorboards had dead little bugs. Oddly, there were empty hooks with cards next to them, which must have been for artwork that was already sold (which just added to the uncared for feel of the room). This wouldn't have bothered us if the price was a lot lower. But to charge a whopping $500 A NIGHT (without tax)? That was the most we have EVER spent on a hotel -- and only did so because it was the only room available when we booked and because we decided to splurge after a long period of quarantining, thinking it would be the finest room we ever stayed in. Granted, this room was the one with the cupola, which has beautiful views and is very cool to climb up to, but even that--its interior and the staircase--is not as described and was not worth the extra money, to us at least. But judge the room for yourself--see our photos posted with this review. In contrast, the photos posted by the hotel and booking websites all feature modern-looking rooms with luxury bathrooms and nice sofas and practical layouts. I would have thought the most expensive room would have been a renovated one, especially since the staff said it was the nicest room of all. Our room at a Newport inn cost FAR less and was absolutely stunning and clean. Of more concern, if you value your safety and are a responsible and respectful person, reconsider staying here. We felt the hotel did not take proper Covid precautions. Unlike at the other hotel where we stayed (and every restaurant we went to), mask wearing is not required for the staff at Stone House as a measure to protect themselves and the guests--and the manager himself did not wear one (except for us after we said something); there are no posted signs for guests to wear a mask indoors, either, so some did not wear one. There is no plexiglass separation at the reception desk (especially needed if the staff are not wearing masks), no hand sanitizer (as seems to be in all other establishments), and no visible signs of regular disinfecting of commonly touched surfaces in common areas such as the toaster and the coffee machine in the dining rooms. Perhaps they get cleaned daily, but even that is not enough if 30-plus people are all touching them, since coronavirus can linger on surfaces for some time. Beach chairs are available, but they are not disinfected between uses as they should be. We don't know what the RI hotel regulations are regarding Covid, but all of this was quite disturbing since, though there is always some risk in traveling now, simple measures can be taken to control the virus, while such a casual attitude can cause it to surge. We were told that the rooms were cleaned for one hour using various disinfecting solutions but found it hard to believe that careful attention is paid to this since our room was visibly dirty in places. One other (relatively minor) thing to just point out -- that the beach is not "private" as hotels.com says and is far enough of a walk that carrying beach chairs and umbrella was not possible for us, so we did not spend more time there as we had planned.…
We stayed here many years ago (as in 20), and were underwhelmed. Earlier this summer, when our home in Little Compton had some plumbing and electricity breakdowns, we called the Stone House to see if they were open and if they had any vacancy. Not only did they find us a room, but we were able to arrive early due to our circumstances. When we arrived, we were fed the breakfast that we'd missed, and when we were shown to our room, I was in SHOCK! Gone was the tiny room with the floral wallpaper-- were were in an enormous, light-filled, beautifully decorated suite (though this is not what they refer to as a suite-- I think this room, Warren, is a "standard room" -- but believe me, it was a suite by any other standard). Everything was so comfortable. We were told that complimentary "light fare" was included in an incredibly reasonable rate (similar to what we paid 20 years ago). This light fare consisted of several courses of dinner, lovely wine and cheese, homemade cookies (our daughter scored a few extra), and later, a s'mores kit to sit by the fire pit. Now that everything is up and working at our place in Rhode Island I keep looking for an excuse to go back. I can't recommend it enough.…
We recently stayed here for 5 days following the sale of our house. The staff (Cory and Olivia) were amazing and made our stay an absolute joy. The accommodations were excellent, the room was clean, the views great, and the proximity to the beach is a major plus. Also, Cory was an excellent host, a pleasure to chat with and highly attentive during the relaxing evening drinks and dining on the porch. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing and amazing vacation.
