My stay at East Bay B&B was nothing short of wonderful. Mike and Rebecca were great hosts, and the inn itself is very charming, comfortable and welcoming. The breakfasts Rebecca prepared tasted fabulous every morning, and Mike did a stellar job with serving us.

I stayed with family and we had the third floor suite. The rooms are lovely and it was so nice to have the sitting room available for relaxing together outside of the bedrooms. The beds were comfortable and I loved the bedding they use. Even though the inn was booked to capacity while we were there, there were no disruptions and it was quiet, peaceful and relaxing throughout our four night stay. I honestly wouldn't have known there were other guests had I not seen them at breakfast!

Obviously everyone is concerned about health and safety right now with COVID in our midst, but I could not have felt more comfortable about the cleaning and sanitization practices. There was hand sanitizer by the front door, the cleaning staff was thorough (Rebecca noted that they are even using UV lights to sanitize some surfaces), and Mike was great at handling everything safely when serving breakfast.

Overall, this was a fabulous (and much needed!) vacation, and staying at East Bay played a very large part in that. I will most definitely return and would absolutely recommend it!

This is our third stay at East Bay Bed & Breakfast, and it won't be the last! We were fortunate to be able to stay in the Captain's Suite this trip which was perfect for our family getaway. The accommodations of this suite provided us separate bedrooms while giving us a private living room where we could gather, play games and visit. The area proved to be very quiet, comfortable and away from the other guests. The entire inn has well-appointed furnishings and luxurious bedding. We are sticklers (especially during Covid) for cleanliness, and we felt completely safe returning to this property due to the standards in place to insure everything is sanitized. The main reason we return, however, is Mike & Rebecca. You will not find more gracious, kind and helpful hosts. As a well-traveled guest, it is apparent their attention to detail is of upmost importance. Making guests feel comfortable and providing them a safe space is evident. Rebecca's breakfasts are absolutely magnificent! I think if I lived locally, I'd book a stay just to enjoy breakfast! As well as providing great service, Mike is also very knowledgeable about the area, places to see, restaurants, activities and tours. This is the one place we know we can stay and be guaranteed to leave relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated. We will definitely return!

East Bay B&B is one of those hidden gems you would love. Rebecca and Mike make you feel welcome and they are very friendly. The rooms are very clean and breakfast was 5 stars. Rebecca met us at the door and showed us around explaining what they are doing to keep everyone safe from hand sanitizer as you walk in, housekeeper doing extra cleaning, using ultraviolet wands to sanitize couches and chairs and wearing mask inside the inn. The inn is also located right in town and so close to the ferry to Newport so no need to drive over the bridge. What a wonderful weekend we had and will be back very soon! Thank you Rebecca and Mike

I have travelled all over the world and as a woman of color, have never experienced the prejudice I did at this hotel. From the moment the owner Rebecca met me, she was unwelcoming. When I booked the room with her over the phone, she described it as a two-bedroom suite. She did not explain the suite was actually two separate rooms and a separate shared bathroom which was essentially located in a hotel common space. The setup is on the third floor but any guest can walk up and access the space. I have two young kids who I did not feel safe leaving in a separate room. So when I questioned Rebecca about moving some bedding around because I felt unsafe leaving my children in the room alone, she incredulously asked me ‘where are you from?, as if I must be from a third world place with such a question. I told her I’m from CT and explained that it was unclear in her description that the setup is two separate rooms, but that we will manage. She then told me I could leave and she would return my deposit. I told her that I had nowhere else to go, it’s late at night, and I picked her place because it seemed nice, and that I’ll make the sleeping arrangement work. She was also offended because I sprayed the doorknobs of our rooms with Lysol (you would think Hotel owners would be understanding of guests taking extra precautions during a pandemic).

A few minutes later I come downstairs and Rebecca was mocking me out loud to her husband. I was insulted but wished her a good night and walked out to my car to drive to my family who were at dinner. Before I got into my car Rebecca came outside and gave me a nasty look. I explained to her that she need not get offended when a guest asks questions or makes comments. Rebecca just mockingly laughed at me. I told her there is no need to laugh at me. I’m not trying to offend her in anyway. I got in my car but before I drove away, Rebecca’s husband Mike tapped my window and said, ‘you don’t need to stay at our hotel. Please get your things and make sure you leave everything else in tact’. I was shocked but silently stepped out of my car, got my things, wished them a good night, and departed. I spent the next two hours finding a place for my family on Labor Day Saturday night.

I cannot imagine how these hotel owners have the audacity to treat guests the way I was treated, especially at $450/night, unless they are prejudiced. It was truly a hurtful and humiliating experience.

Response from Mike and Rebecca Drzal, Owner at East Bay Bed & Breakfast
Responded Sep 6, 2020
We are sorry for this negative review. We think the veracity of this review is most effectively "fact-checked" by the hundreds of 5* reviews posted here and on other review platforms. We do want to specificaly correct the multiple factual inaccuracies reported here for the benefit of our prospective guests. First, the Captain's Suite occupies the entire third floor of the property and is not located in a "common space". The Captain's Suite is made up of 4 distinct rooms - two bedrooms, a hall bath and a den. Other guests are not permitted on the third floor - the Captain's Suite is private for the guests who rent the suite. Both bedrooms and the bathroom have locks and are only accesible by the guests in the suite. The 4 rooms of the Captain's Suite are not enclosed behind a door. Contrary to the reviewer's account, this was made clear via phone when she made the reservation, as is the case with all guests. The reviewer seemed quite distracted and was interrupted serveral times during the booking process, so perhaps she just did not hear it. The suite has been rented scores of times by families throughout our tenure, and we have never heard this complaint. We were more than amenable to the guest's desire to move some beds during her stay, but she continued to complain and berate us about the configuration of the third floor. We even offered a baby gate (despite her children being aged 10 and 11) to place at the top of the stairs, to no avail. Second, we want to address our COVID compliance. We have gone above and beyond to ensure the safety of our guests during the pandemic. We use high powered, residual disinfectants on all hard surfaces. Every bed linen is removed after each guest, including all blankets, pillow shams, etc. and sanitized in a strict laundry regime. The curtains (including shower curtains) and upholstered surfaces (including chairs, window seats, etc.) that remain in each room are sanitized using UV light wands. The door knobs and hand rails are cleaned daily using disinfectants. Our reviews speak for themselves about the pristine nature of our property. We did ask the reviewer not to spray the bedding and upholstered surfaces with her disinfectant spray (which appeared to be bleach based). We provide Matouk bed linens in each room. We ask our guests to be curteous of the luxurious bed linens, which are, as stated above, sanitized between each guest. This reviewer continued to spray the bed linens with her disinfectant spray after being asked to stop. As a small business, we cannot afford to have our bed linens mistreated. If she had made her concern about door knobs known, we would have offered disinfecting wipes, just as we have done on multiple ocassions this season. Lastly, we live on premises. This is not a hotel. It is an owner occupied bed & breakfast. We do expect an appropriate demeanor and respect from our guests. In our 3 years as innkeepers, all of our guests have treated us with the utmost respect....some are even like family to us. This reviewer was the exception. We will defend ourselves from mistreatment and being berated or abused by guests. As the reviewer admits, she accosted Rebecca in the driveway about "how Rebecca was looking at her". Rebecca was only in the driveway because she was removing trash deposited in the formal dining room by the reviewer upon arrival and without permission. Rebecca attempted to laugh it off, but the reviewer kept antagonizing Rebecca. It was mutually agreed that she should stay elsewhere. We did ask the reviewer where she was from, in an effort to establish rapport, which is a common way we open conversation with all guests. We even often joke with guests about Jamestown's similarities to "Mayberry". The reviewer's response was to demand to know where all the other guests were from. In today's word, real prejudice exists. As small business owners, we find it sad that this reviewer has chosen to categorize our expectations of mutual respect as "prejudice". We wish this reviewer all the best and we do hope that she found suitable accommodations for her family with an enclosed suite. As a small business, we work hard to satisfy our guests, as evidenced by our 5* rating. We take our reviews to heart and hope this type of thing never happens again at our B&B.

I've stayed here with my family a couple times and would love to return soon. The bedrooms are comfortable and clean, and the beds sleep great. My daughter was around 9 months the first time I stayed here, and though she cried out a couple of times on the third floor, I received no complaints from the hosts or other guests.
The third floor suite is perfect if staying with small children, and the rooms seem to be well-insulated.

Breakfasts are delicious and generous, and the breakfast porch is bright and quiet. I have a food allergy and the hosts went out of their way to accommodate me without making me feel like a nuisance. Mike pairs fresh fruit with mint and lime, a combination I look forward to from the moment I wake up when staying here. They are also always ready with fresh coffee and a great selection of juices. I love the in-room coffee makers as well.

The hosts are friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The inn is located in a beautiful neighborhood with great views of the sea, and only a very short walk to the beach and Jamestown shops. The location is convenient to Beaver Tail, and Newport.

My family of four (our two children are in their 20s) stayed at the East Bay Bed and Breakfast for two night in August. We stayed in the Captain's Suite, which takes up the entire third floor and consists of a bathroom, a small living room, and two bedrooms. There was a heat wave going on, but luckily there was air conditioning in all the rooms. The rooms were beautiful and in great shape. The morning breakfast was STUPENDOUS. Absolutely delicious. The suite was fairly pricy (about $450 per night) but given that we had two bedrooms and it was August, I don't think the price was unreasonable.

We were invited to a wedding in Newport, and the East Bay Bed & Breakfast was a good alternative to the high priced hotels there. It's only a ten minute drive to Newport, and I liked the cozy feel of Jamestown. The wedding was re-scheduled due to Covid, and Mike & Rebecca were very gracious about switching our dates from summer 2020 to summer 2021.

The East Bay is less than a block from the water, and we spent some peaceful time just sitting on the benches by the ferry. Simpatico, a lovely restaurant with lots of outdoor seating, is located right behind the East Bay. Beavertail State Park is less than a ten minute drive, and worth visiting.

Breakfasts in the pretty front room were delicious, especially the stuffed French toast, and our hosts were very accommodating in offering some low-carb alternatives. Very pleased with our room and it's cleanliness too. I think you will be happy if you stay here!

We recently took a couples’ trip with friends and stayed at East Bay B&B. I’ve always been skeptical of B&Bs given their tendency to have outdated furnishings and feeling that they lack privacy. I could not have been more inaccurate in my assumptions. East Bay has been beautifully decorated with modern and clean decor while still respecting the era of the house. We stayed on the third floor in the Captain’s Suite. When we booked we had a few questions regarding our accommodations and Rebecca was gracious enough to answer all of them. The extra den for daytime relaxation and reading was just perfect.

The food was spectacular. We started with a scrumptious scone, followed by fresh berries and melon with lime zest but the most amazing part was the lemon curd stuffed french toast...to die for! Rebecca is an amazing cook while Mike serves as a gracious and gifted host and tour guide to help plan your day. Breakfast was large enough to allow us just to grab a quick cup of clam chowder for lunch while we enjoyed our sight seeing and shopping.

Cleanliness during COVID was a top concern for us and we could not have been more impressed. Everything was spotless and taken care of. If you’re looking for a gorgeous house with gracious hosts and delicious food, this is the place for you.

I visited East Bay July 2020 for a girls week. We stayed in the Captain’s Suite on the 3rd floor. Both bedrooms are lavishly furnished and have luscious, comfy bed linens. The den on this floor allows for extra privacy and enjoyment.

The new owners Mike and Rebecca have redone the bed and breakfast without losing any of its charm and quaintness. The restoration is quite lovely and comfortable.

Our breakfasts were gourmet with 3 courses and prepared by Rebecca. I absolutely love the homemade zucchini bread and the egg scrambles. Mike serves the breakfast. Mike is from the area and very knowledgeable and helpful about what is available in the surrounding area. Rebecca and Mike made us feel very welcome!

Jamestown is a very quaint, and quiet destination and the B&B is convenient to the ferry. Downtown Jamestown and the harbor are within walking distance.

We had a lovely relaxing time and I know we will be back soon.

One of the best B and B's we have ever encountered. Fabulous hosts and incredible breakfasts! Every detail and amenity that you could ask for and close to shops and restaurants in town. Beautifully updated turn of the century home with very comfortable bed and air conditioning. Each room has its own unique charm. Quiet and very tasteful decor. The hosts make every effort to be sure guests are well cared for. Will definitely return and highly recommend!

As stated in the previous reply it would be best to speak with Paul & Diane. They are great hosts & I am sure they can assist you. In our many visits over the years they have had many wedding guests while we were there. Reach out to them as soon as you can.
