Spent 2 weeks leaving messages with every media contact -NO return call, email FB message -NOTHING. FINALLY got an indignant call from owner listing personal problems which are completely understandable as they happen to EVERYONE but when you are a BUSINESS you can simply take 2 minutes to record your outgoing phone message to say you are not accepting reservations for the next ___weeks/months. NO excuse is acceptable for not being able -or having someone else able- to leave this basic message --tried again multiple times after the Thanksgiving holiday (he said he was booked through) to get a time for the next opening and again no reply --EVER. I am just a loving and empathetic potential customer, but made to feel like a pest. SO extremely disappointing and rude.
This was one of the best mansions we ever visited. We were with a bus group and had lunch there. Food and service was excellent. Then we had a chocolate tasting which was wonderful. We had a tour of the mansion and felt most welcomed. We were allowed to take pictures . We hope we can visit again.
We stayed overnight in the Amelia suite. Beautiful accommodations. We will stay again. The entire facility is gorgeous. The room was elegant. Close to downtown restaurants and entertainment. The owner is gracious and the staff extremely attentive.
We hosted a Rehearsal Dinner for our son's wedding and our guests couldn't say enough nice things about the experience. The service is exceptional and every course - appetizers, dinner and dessert - was a culinary delight. The star of the show is the mansion itself. Victorian, genteel and elegant with period pieces and details everywhere the eye can gaze. One could remain in any of the sitting rooms for hours to take in all the small details. No detail is overlooked. This is an extraordinary experience. The Mansion is also a bed and breakfast. My son and his bride stayed there on their wedding night and he said he felt like royalty!! (As an aside, when President Carter visited the area, this is where he chose to stay!) We were so proud to have been guests of The Frederick Stegmaier Mansion.…
The host at the Stegmeier is very personable and gracious. He stocks a wide array of breakfast goodies in the rooms and allows guests to help themselves. The wrap around porch outside is great for evening sit downs and a chance to watch the crow\d , including numerous students from nearby Wilkes Cleege, walk by.while enjoying your favorite beverage. The house is full to the brim with wonderful antiques, old photos and paintings as well as bric-a-brac which the owner has collected over the years. Wilkes-Barre is a surprising weekend getaway, especially for those interested in history, culture and architecture.
There aren't words to describe the amazing atmosphere that the owner, Joe Matteo, has created in this spectacular mansion. I have been in many victorian house museums and victorian Bed and Breakfasts and this is top of the list. You feel the splendor of days gone by the moment you enter the massive front doors. Each room has been decorated and restored to reflect the opulence of victorian days in such exquisite detail. We stayed in Amelia's room and it was so magical that I thought I would never be able to go to sleep for the sheer excitement of being there, however, the bed was the most comfortable I had ever slept on and I slept like a baby. I felt like I was living a dream come true to be able to sleep in such a beautiful room and simply felt as though I had been swept away to Highclere Castle. We also had great fun exploring the town on our bicycles and the riverwalk was lovely. Although we had toured the mansion before, this was our first opportunity to spend the night and it was a night I will never forget!!…
My husband and I enjoy staying in unique bed and breakfasts in the U.S. and abroad and this one ranks among the best of the best. Meticulously restored, yet extremely welcoming and homey, we felt like we became part of the Stegmaier family from the moment we crossed the threshold. From the well-stocked kitchenette in every room to the fresh fruit and pastries outside your room in the morning, Joe took care of every detail and was a kind and gracious host. A wonderful experience--we will definitely be returning to visit soon.
I'm sure this is a great place to get married or impress a business associate. The restoration is astonishing and the building is magnificent. A lot of work went into bringing this mansion back to life, including period furnishings and an abundance of art and photos on three living levels. We were comfortable and the owner was helpful and polite. The room was well stocked with traveler needs, including toothbrushes. However, our stay here did not include two things we count on in a B&B experience: (1) a welcoming common room to have a glass of wine and (2) a real breakfast. We might have been able to find a place to sit in the library but not the ladies' or mens' parlors. Frankly all the furnishings looked like don't-sit-on-me antiques. You wouldn't set your wine glass down on any of the tables. We had our drinks in the butler's pantry and then wandered around admiring everything as if we were in an art gallery -- look but don't touch. It was impressive, but not welcoming. Breakfast turned out to be do-it-yourself carbs. A kitchenette in our room (no chance to mingle with other guests at a common table) held cereals, pop tarts, and fruit. The fridge was stocked with water, juice (with sugar), yogurt (with sugar), and milk. A breakfast tray was delivered to our door at the hour of our choosing (thank you), with danish, bran muffins, and bananas. We made our own coffee. Some of the creamers were turning to cheese. I might give the place a better score if we had gone for a different reason. But the Mansion was listed as a B&B and we've stayed in better.…
We saw this place in a magazine and came here for a special occasion, splurging for the finest room. We were so glad we did. The B&B is lovingly restored and decorated in gorgeous Victorian style with exceptional wallpaper, beautiful paintings, and great furniture everywhere you look. We stayed in the same room as former President Carter and it was magnificent even just looking up at the ceiling. The mansion was rented out on the main floor for a wedding rehearsal dinner, so it looked stupendous. It‘s clearly more formal than most B&Bs, so there was almost no contact with the very talented, super hard working host, Joe, but we met and talked with a very nice woman employee whose daughter had had her wedding here-lucky daughter! Unlike every other B&B we've been to, it didn't include a hot breakfast, but they provided delicious pastries, muffins, fruit instead, delivered to our door under silver trays, plus we had a kitchenette with a small fridge, toaster, microwave, sink. There was milk and cold cereal selection. After dinner nearby we settled in for some dvd in our small, comfy den, off our bedroom. The room was quiet and comfortable for sitting in, especially with the fluffy robes. I can say that this was the most enjoyable hotel or B&B stay we've ever had in our decades of world and domestic travel because of the sheer beauty and sense of luxury. Best of all, we didn't find it too expensive for all that was included. This was truly a memorable experience, so treat yourself for a special occasion if you're near or passing through. Not all the rooms are as spectacular as this room, but were glad we spent the extra money this time.…
My husband and I have stayed in many historic hotels and inns, often furnished with antique and period furniture, but nothing, simply nothing, comes close to the Stegmaier Mansion. Staying here was more like staying in a museum, but without the velvet ropes. Every room is spectacularly decorated with antiques, draperies, statuary, and bric-a-brac. We stayed in Amelia's suite, which was a large, opulent bedroom with attached sitting room on the second floor. It was almost a shame to leave the room, but we did go out for dinner. Afterwards, we sat on the front porch, and then relaxed in the various parlors before heading upstairs for the night. Although other people were staying here, we did not see another soul, and it was as though we had the mansion to ourselves. We have never experienced anything like this before, and will likely make a special trip back just to stay here again, hopefully for more than one night. This place is a treasure.…
