It is in a quiet location. It is not 5 star, but it was ok for the area. Was a good price for the area and time of year. Not a lot of options in this area. Would stay there again. You can uber around this area from here.
I was looking forward to a somewhat economical, but quality, stay close to Camelback Mountain. But I was sorely disappointed. The hotel has 5 floors, including the basement (pool, gym), and two elevators. But one of the elevators was out of service throughout our stay. And when you're claiming to be a ski lodge, one small elevator doesn't cut it -- I had to wait four 4 trips to get on an elevator with my family's bags (and that's only because I got on going the wrong way to get ahead other people waiting to get on as well). The breakfast was essentially the same as what you get at a Country Inn and Suites, Courtyard by Marriott, etc. -- except it cost $15 for adults and $10 for kids. The same mass-produced scrambled eggs, pancakes, overcooked bacon, and muffins would have been included at a one of those cheaper hotels. It's the only hotel where I've had to negotiate to get more towels in my room. It's about a half-mile from Camelback Mountain, but no shuttle to/from the base. Equipment in the gym was broken. We didn't go in the pool because it was way too small for the number of people using it.…
We stayed at this hotel to do some skiing. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was clean. However the hotel was totally outdated and needs more than just a renovation... while we stayed there one of the two elevators was out of service, the other one looked quite suspicious (see photo), the sauna was closed, the pool was unheated and very cold, the equipment in the gym was totally done... honestly it looked like they have not invested any money during the past 30 years. This could be a nice place, but not in such condition. Won’t go there again until they will have done a full renovation of everything.
My family stayed here for one night on martin luther king weekend because it was close to the mountain but not as expensive as the camelback resort. It was a great deal because it's so close to the mountain. It was snowing a lot when we got there so we decided to try out the hotel restaurant instead of leaving to go somewhere else. It was not good. Very slow service. Our food took over an hour to come out after we ordered. The waitress was very timid and seemed confused. We had to ask her for small plates and refills, but only when we could catch her because she rarely came over to us. She did tell us the kitchen was backed up which was why our food was taking forever but there was like 6 tables in the restaurant so i couldn't understand how they could possibly be backed up. The bus boy was very young and also confused. When our food finally came out it was good, not amazing, but average. Overall the room in the hotel was great, had a very comfy bed and seemed clean. The room the pool was in was freezing and there was a sign posted that said the pool heater was broken so it might be cold so we didn't get to try that out. There was an arcade that seemed like it would be fun for kids. Overall this hotel was average. The room was good, the restroom had terrible service, but if the pool wasn't broken it could have been a little better. …
Yes it is outdated but get over it. That is part of the fun. The people who work here are so very nice. Can’t beat the location. The restaurant food is delicious even if you have to wait hours for it. We already booked up to return next month. Oh, and don’t forget to bring a board game to play with your family in front of the awesome fireplace in the bar. If you complain after a night here, you don’t know how to have a good time.
