Response from Bridget Logan Weber, General Manager at The French Manor Inn and Spa
Responded 2 weeks ago
Dear BigDaddyD84, I am truly saddened to hear about your disappointment in your stay, and I sincerely thank you for your feedback. For almost 30 years the Logan Family has owned and managed the beautiful French Manor atop Huckleberry Mountain, in the heart of the Pocono Mountains. Our philosophy has always been to create a relaxing four-diamond retreat for our guests, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, in an elegant and upscale setting. We take our reputation as one of the best boutique hotels very seriously, and we have our guests to thank for getting us there. I would like to assure you that your room was professionally cleaned prior to your arrival. And we are following all CDC guidelines when cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting our property. We are truly sorry that you experienced issues with your door lock during your stay. And we are surprised to hear that you found Jude at all rude as we always get such wonderful remarks about his service. Perhaps there must have been some misunderstanding. However we will certainly have a discussion with him on his communication skills. If you have any other concerns or would discuss your stay in more detail, please feel free to give me a call at the French Manor. I am disappointed that we did not fulfill your expectations on this visit, and we hope for the opportunity to make it up to you. Sincerely, Bridget Logan Weber

I spent an hour or so selecting which room I'd like for me and my husband's stay and I decided on what looked like a bright, newly updated room so I went ahead and booked it 3-4 months in advance. All 3 of my email confirmations included this room on my booking. When we arrived we were put in a completely different room and when asked why, reception said that the room I had booked, "wasn't even remotely clean" (despite them knowing about my reservation for 3-4 months). It's very much like that Seinfeld quote, “See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation and that's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding.” We were not given the promised wine and cheese upon arrival. The room we were put in was covered wall to ceiling in wood paneling with 3 very small windows with a creaky floor and bed, it was so dark and out dated but fine, I could get passed that. However, after some inspection of the room: we had no towels, there was hair in the bathtub, one of the pillows looked like it had a urine stain on it, the sheets were stained, and there were pop-rocks on the floor.... considering the current state of affairs, I wasn't confident these rooms were properly cleaned. Lastly, my husband and I took a 30 minute dip in their "salt water pool" only to notice that the pool bleached my entire swimsuit. From some research this is caused by over chlorination. I let the front staff know about this and they did credit me for the cost of my suit. The reason I gave them 2 stars and not 1 is because the property is gorgeous and there is a trailhead to a nice little hiking trail right on site.

Let me start by first saying that I really really wanted to give this place a 5 star review. The room was great, restaurant amazing, and the staff at the Spa couldn't of made our experience better The grounds of the hotel are also beautiful! If you go to this hotel and you don't have anything go wrong, you are in for an amazing and relaxing stay! For us, things turned south during our interactions with management and the front desk. First of all, we asked for recommendations on where we could find outdoor seating for lunch and what restaurants would be open in the area given the pandemic.. You'd think since it's a fairly secluded area, the front desk would be able to rattle off the restaurants around that were open. Unfortunately, the person at the front desk said she honestly didn't know and handed us a print out of restaurants in the area. I literally had to call each restaurant individually just to see if they were open and had outdoor seating. Not a great use of time for us to spend researching places but honestly, I let it go... It wasn't until the last day when we went to go have breakfast that things really turned. We asked to get seated for breakfast and the manager was the one playing host that morning. He said they had just had 7 couples come in at once at that there was no outdoor seating left and we had to sit inside. Being 9 months pregnant during a pandemic, I was REALLY not comfortable sitting inside and asked if any tables would be opening up any time soon. Without even trying to see if anything was coming available he coldly just said no and that we'd have to eat inside. OK fine. So here we are, seated inside, slightly annoyed at this point but ready for a nice breakfast. About 5 minutes later, another couple walks in and sure enough they get seated outside (and no, they did not have a reservation, I asked). On top of that, because they were busy outside, no one even came over to wait on us for 20 minutes.... and they literally had to walk by our table every time they came in from the patio.. finally I had to ask someone to get us coffee and to take our order. Very shortly after the waiter took our order the manager came over to our table. Thinking he was going to apologize for the long wait or address the fact that they JUST sat another couple outside when we specifically asked for outdoor seating! NOPE, he came over to our table and asked if we were checking out of the hotel...... SERIOUSLY? You are the manager and clearly you were short staffed that morning and you didn't think to ask how things were going or apologize??? After he walked away I asked him to come back to ask him again if any tables had opened up... again thinking maybe if I reminded him, he would acknowledge the situation and apologize for the inconvenience. He just said he would let us know if anything opened up.... At this point, I went from being slightly annoyed to fuming.... nothing is worse than bad service, especially when it's coming directly from the manager of the hotel! FINALLY, after getting our breakfast and already halfway through eating, he came over and asked if we wanted to move outside.... at this point, NO, we just wanted to get out of there. It was NOT the ideal ending to our trip. To top everything off, my husband left his toiletry bag in our hotel room. Let me just say, we just spent THOUSANDS of dollars at this hotel. When we called to ask them if a bag was left in the room, they immediately knew which room we were in and the bag that was left.... So.... you didn't call us to let us know you found something in our room? They then proceeded to let us know they would charge the card on file to ship back the toiletry bag. Are you kidding??? You are going to charge us for shipping? I can understand if you are a motel or Holiday Inn but you advertise yourself as a luxury hotel and are happy to charge premium pricing to stay at your hotel and then you charge your customers for shipping when a belonging is left? It was a toiletry bag not a suitcase! The shipping was $10 not $100! Definitely not what you'd expect their answer to be and how it would get handled by a quote "luxury hotel". As I said, the actual employees (excluding the manager and front desk) were incredibly friendly and helpful. Grounds were gorgeous and the spa was amazing... I'd just set your expectations low when it comes to receiving premium level customer service to resolve issues or make your stay better.. that part was definitely below standard.

I visited the French Manor Inn and have to say I was extremely pleased. From the bathrobes, to the fireplace, to the balcony and even the snacks in the lobby. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever experienced at a hotel. The room was clean and the staff were friendly. The breakfast was excellent and it was a bonus to be included in the price. The views were outstanding and the patio on the restaurant was breathtaking! We will come back every year without the children, it's not a place for kids which is needed at times!

Adequate room. Ours was a small room, not one of there bigger rooms. Pillows were a bit old and flat. Blankets too. Window Air conditioner noisy. Restaurant expensive for dinner. Service slow. They obviously need a better system for all aspects of service. Nice facilities in general. Besides spa and hiking there’s not much to do on property. Breakfast was very good. Service was excellent. They obviously have a good system for breakfast. Picnic lunch was excellent. Overall it was a bit pricy for what you got.
