Recently spent three nights in the Belsar room. Large room, jacuzzi bathtub and separate shower, nice sitting area with a great view of the outside. We were very pleased. Breakfast was different every day, and was great each time. Definitely recommend and will plan on staying there on our next trip to south west Pennsylvania.

My boyfriend and I visited the Belsar Inn in late May and were not disappointed. Brenda, the owner, was honestly one of the nicest ladies I have ever met and was nothing but friendly to us since arriving. Upon arrival, she spent time talking with us asking our interests, careers, etc. and tried to really get to know us. We stayed in the McCoy room which was very nice. Clean, nice bathroom, and adequate space. There was a nice view from our window looking outside to the gardens (which were very beautiful). The breakfast was high quality food and you can tell that Brenda takes her time to get fresh ingredients for the guests. Brenda was helpful in explaining places that were nearby that we could visit to eat, drink, or hike. Since we like to do all three, we ended up spending a lot of our day time hiking close-by (about an hours drive). We ended up going to Mt. Davis which is the highest peak in PA. I would definitely recommend that to anyone who loves nature because the views are amazing. We also spent some time in Forbes Forest visiting Kooser State Park which was nice because it was not very populated and had a lot of cool hiking trails. There were also some really nice restaurants nearby (only about 5-10 minute drive). We love Rey Azteca (would always visit the one in Johnstown) and it is authentic Mexican for a really cheap price. We also had the chance to visit Glades Peak Winery which was awesome and had delicious wine. There's really not anything negative I could say about our trip - the location, environment, hospitality was all 5 star. We had the opportunity to meet Brenda's children and they were more than welcoming. We actually ended up hanging out with them both of the nights that we stayed there. Upon leaving, Brenda said that we were welcome back anytime which was a really nice gesture. If you are looking for a week or a weekend trip to just get away and relax, this is the place for you!

I went on line to book a room for tonight, booking.com took my information, reserved the room, and then Brenda called me stating that I must be there by 5. It is now 1:30 and I live 240 miles away, she then informed that I can not stay there if I am not there by 5pm.WHAT very disappointed and can not recommended such an establishment.

Response from TheBelsarInn, Owner at The Belsar Inn Bed & Breakfast
Responded Jul 5, 2015
Our bed and breakfast is a small inn, currently being operated by myself. I personally take reservations, clean rooms, shop for fresh foods for your breakfast, prepare your breakfast, clean up, and do the administrative functions. I am very conscientious with the inn, and my goal is to provide our guests with a very positive experience. Unfortunately your request for your stay came on the same day. I generally do not take same day reservations simply because of the preparation necessary for me to provide our guests with the best stay I can offer. However, I did offer to make an exception for you if you could be here before 5:00 PM. You were coming on a holiday weekend, and I was willing to try to make your stay as wonderful as I could possibly make it for you. I did explain to you that my husband was in an accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury, is in a rehab facility, and I was visiting him that evening. When you could not arrive before 5:00, I contacted booking.com and they refunded all of your money. As the owner of The Belsar Inn I am pleased when our guests have a good stay. We offer clean rooms, a hearty breakfast, and we work hard to accommodate our guests. Unfortunately, there are times that we cannot always please everybody. This is our first negative review in three years of operating our bed and breakfast.

Close to the PA turnpike exit, but secluded. Breakfasts were excellent and the room nice. Well run by a nice family who were very personable and accommodating. The grounds were well maintained. We have already booked another stay over the 4th of July.

We stayed 2 nights at the Belsar and used it as a base to visit the surrounding area. The covered bridge tour is fantastic. The Somerset Historical museum is very interesting as is the Flight 93 memorial site. Ohiopyle is a must see along with Mt Davis. The breakfasts were great and all you can eat.
