The cabooses are nice and cozy. The AC and the heaters worked well. Everything in the room worked fine. Because you are sleeping in your own train car there is a lot of privacy and no noise from the next car. The bathroom was tiny and so was the shower. If you like trains then you will love this hotel and the area. If you aren't a fan of trains then you will hate this place. The Strasburg RR Station is just down the hill and excursion trains run right in front of the hotel several times a day. There is a railroad crossing so you will hear many trains horns and you will see several steam engines close up. We had breakfast at the restaurant every morning and it was very nice. The coffee tasted wonderful. I loved the chance to eat scrapple.

My husband and I were happy to finally have a short vacation during the pandemic and chose the Red Caboose Motel so that we could explore the Strasburg area. We were in Caboose 30 (Long Island) which was a Queen Couples room. We knew from looking online that it would be tight quarters but with just two of us we were fine with it. We still had a flatscreen tv, microwave and refrigerator. Our only complaint was the mattress. It was too soft and needs to be replaced. It also had a waterproof cover which made me sweat. The location is great, the scenery is beautiful and we loved Casey Jones Restaurant. They also had a very nice gift shop with the usual souvenirs and lots for children. There were also some homemade jams. Also, for $.50 you could watch a nice-sized train set go around. It could also be seen from the Casey Jones Restaurant. If we had a better mattress we would have given the motel 5 stars.

When our wedding reception venue cancelled, we called the Red Caboose Motel in a panic. Even though they don’t normally host weddings (yet!), they got creative and made it work. The Red Caboose Motel saved our wedding. We will be forever grateful. Tyler and his staff at the Red Caboose Motel went above and beyond to make our wedding everything I could’ve dreamt, and more. Everyone was so friendly, responsive, and accommodating. Tyler was there every step of the way to help us with questions or requests. He took a video of our wedding train for us. The location was perfect for our train themed wedding, and many of our guests cannot wait to come back. The food at the Casey Jones restaurant is so good, I have relatives asking us to send them their BBQ sauce. The Red Caboose Motel is the perfect wholesome, family oriented get away!

If you are planning on going, request a renovated caboose. Unfortunately we did not. The caboose we stayed in required a lot of TLC and most of the old caboose aesthetic was gone. It had a musty odor, there was dust and dirt in the corners especially next to the bunks in the cupola and the bathroom, the windows where in such disrepair the curtains were blowing with the wind and it felt like you were going to fall through the bathroom floor. We spoke to the front desk but they were booked and couldn’t move us. On the plus side, the staff was super nice and it’s located within walking distance to the toy train museum.

Our dinner was great! Good food and reasonable prices. Our waitress was fantastic! Fish and chips were better than expected and shoo fly pie was best we had on our trip. Would definitely recommend! The location was great and the scenery was spectacular.
