The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh stands out for its whimsical decor and pet-friendly amenities, with guests frequently applauding the spotless rooms and inviting atmosphere. Complimentary services like happy hour are popular, although the absence of in-room coffee makers and the cost of bottled water have been points of contention.
While the service is often highlighted as friendly and helpful, there have been occasional mentions of slow response times, casting a shadow on the hotel's value proposition for some, especially with additional charges like valet parking.

Everyone on the staff is unflaggingly cheerful and helpful. This includes the parking/doormen who hold open the door, smile and say hello as well as the front desk team who smile and greet you every time you go in or out. I had daily printing needs, and after emailing them to the front desk, they were waiting for me minutes later. I also asked for restaurant recommendations and verifications of others' suggestions and the conversation/banter was both fun and funny. The room itself was very classy, and the breakfast was particularly excellent, with homemade English muffins, thick and crisp bacon, and well-prepared eggs. It hard to make bacon and eggs differentiated, but they did it. In case it isn't clear, I truly enjoyed my stay.

The amazing craft cocktails are not needed to appreciate the spectacular rooms at this fabu hotel!
After 4 harrowing hours of driving the PA turnpike, I arrived to an amazing fun cute front desk staff offering, no insisting, me a glass of Chardonnay! How did they know my boozy genes were thirsty for that beverage I’ll never know.
I go to the room my erraticly and pharmacologically bipolar sister arranged for me which was a beautiful room (see pictures) and had the asymmetric design style down. Little more than the pillows were matched as every surface had something very thoughtful applied. Clean as a whistle, I changed my outfit& hustled to the bar where I had thought my sibling had worn a hole in the seat from being there so long but found her duplicitiousness was at a peak that day as she texted she was waiting for me for hour but yet the reality was she hadn’t even arrived yet.
After two LastWord cocktails, I found myself making friends with the other bar patrons who were on a first date and another hedge fund guy having an enticingly aromatic Branzino fish. He had bottle of white burgundy that she shared& found his taste in wines were as delicate as the Branzino.
After two more, Last words, dear ol sis arrived to tell tales of gastric distress that those too were a mere figment of imagination as her uncomfortably suited beau stated she didn’t want to leave until her TLC show was done. After that round we went to Dinner, EddieV’s, & returned for our last word! Bar was slower albeit a Monday at 10pm but staff was excellent and discrete as our slovenly behavior warranted a good thrashing instead they guided us to the elevator around the corner where we went to our rooms on the 9th floor.
Slept in which is rare so the bed was great, soft and cuddly under the duvet. Go to the Monaco to have a delightful night in town as they know what they are doing!

Thrilled that we chose the Kimpton Monaco for our 5-night stay in Pitt. Loved the location, walkable or easy to grab an Uber. Front desk staff was great, the birthday snacks and card were so thoughtful - Go Bills! We went with the King Spa room to get the fabulous soaking tub in the shower, along with a bit more space in the room.
As far as COVID restrictions, the hotel was very clean, we appreciated hand sanitizer placed throughout the property, as well as daily texts for housekeeping needs. We actually preferred that method to someone coming into the room each day while we were possibly there.
Also appreciated complimentary coffee in the morning. However, we would not recommend the grab and go breakfast, we were not happy with our choices of an açaí bowl and breakfast sandwich. Lastly, check out the great Biergarten rooftop bar/restaurant. We enjoyed some cocktails before we headed out for the night.
You won’t be disappointed with your stay at Kimpton Monaco!

Thanks for such a thoughtful review, colleena927! We absolutely love to celebrate at the Monaco, and we're delighted that we were able to make your stay extra special for your birthday. Thanks for also highlighting our current COVID restriction procedures including our contactless housekeeping service. We're working hard to keep our employees and guests safe during this challenging time and our texting service is a way to stay connected from a distance! We hope that you'll join us again soon for a soak in one of our spa bathrooms, a rooftop cocktail and a walk around the City of Bridges. We'll even forgive you for being a Bills fan! :) - Alexandra, Front Office Manager

My daughter and I stayed here for a quick trip this past weekend. The staff was amazing. Aasim, the front desk manager could not have been more helpful. I didn't get the other young man's name who mapped out for us where to go to get a flavor for the city. The valet was on the ball and ready to assist. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. Since most of the restaurants were closed, we ordered room service for dinner. The burger was out of this world! The one thing that could have made it better would have been to supply complimentary bottles of water for guests as the tap water was a bit yucky. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel is nice, clean and centrally located. The staff were nice, and we really appreciated Isaac from housekeeping for being accommodating as we were travelling with an infant and a dog. We were provided with an extra refrigerator to store baby food, a crib, a dog bed and dog water and food bowls. When my husband made the reservation over the phone, he was asked if it was for a special occasion and he said it was for my birthday. Because of that we thought the hotel might have a welcome gift in the room upon check-in like how many other hotels offer, but there was nothing. It's not a big deal, but those who are looking to celebrate birthdays may want to take it into consideration. We had breakfast in our room. It seemed like the room service menu is of less variety than what is offered at the restaurant downstairs. The food arrived promptly which I appreciated, and I was asked to sign the receipt that just had the total price and line for gratuity before seeing the itemized receipt. The total price had already included gratuity and service charge, but without knowing this I ended up tipping again. My mistake, but I really wish I was given the itemized receipt first. The food was good enough.

The location was spot on, with parking closeby. The hotel whole vibe reminded you of being in Paris. I loved it. Our room was beautifully decorated both vintage and chic. The rich colors they used to decorate the whole hotel is beyond words. You literally do not want to leave you room of how enticing and comfortable it was. For going thru a pandemic, I was impressed in how well kept the hotel was. Also I didn't know that it was pet-friendly so if by chance I stayed in a room where there pets, the room was so clean and odor free that I didn't notice a thing. I would definitely stay here again.

I am so impressed with the Kimpton Hotel in Pittsburgh!! Started with making the reservations and talking to Emily at the front desk! She helped us make our dinner reservations as well as extending our stay two extra day. Alexandra one of the managers Is truly a star! She helped move our room to the one that corporate had Identified we would get which Included the spa soaking tub! She always has a smile to greet us when we walk in the door; not to mention hello and ask how our stay is going! She is professional, customer service oriented and first rate.
I Highly recommend selecting the spa room. Just relaxing in the tub is good for the soul and the muscles. The hotel is just all-around a great place.
I would rate it an 11 out of 10.
The customer service is just exceptional. The valet staff are friendly. the front desk staff are amazing and the restaurant waiter Zach was very accommodating. If you see the theme it’s everyone is friendly, professional and go out of their way to help you to provide great service. Not to mention it’s a pet friendly hotel and support COVID-19 efforts .
Extra masks are on the front table, you can see them cleaning the doorhandles as soon as someone comes in and safe distancing is apparent with signs to help remind people.
We are having an amazing stay (great location too) and look forward to coming again!

Loved this place. I usually do enjoy Kimptons but not all of them nail the right combination of informality/boutiquishness and luxury. This one does. Check in staff was friendly and they had preupgraded me based on my IHG status and room request. The room was spacious, tasteful and beautifully appointed, with high end bed and bedding, fun and functional furniture and lighting and an absolutely fabulous bathroom with a freestanding tub and massive shower enclosure. Could have lived in that bathroom. The evening social hour featured a nice selection of wines and beers and a really tasty appetizer from the bar. Breakfast at the Commoner was well presented though I personally would like to see the addition of a few vegetarian items. Another positive of this Kimpton (for me) was that I asked to be on a dog-free floor and as far as I could tell I was. I never understood how allowing pets made sense in this caliber of hotel. Two minor suggestions I can think of are to supply a water bottle or two in the room (tap water came out warm and didn't taste great) and don't put decorative pillows on the beds adjacent to the sleeping pillows (unhygienic since they never get washed), Still, overall a great stay and a property I'd recommend to others.

We really liked the hotel and that it was not the "typical hotel feeling" but more family-friendly and cozy with a unique design. We stayed for five nights initially but extended by an extra day to be able to go on an extra pittsburgh penguins game. PPG paints arena is close and you can walk there - which was great for us because the hockey games were the whole reason we visited Pittsburgh.
The staff were very nice, especially Miles and William (?). Can't remember the names of the others but everyone was happy and helpful.
The only negative thing I have to say about this hotel is that they forgot to clean our room one day and when we went down to reception and asked for new towels no one had come even after two
hours. So we had to call down again and then the staff would send the cleaning staff straight away and only then would we get new towels.
We ordered room service and wrote that the three starters had to be vegetarian but the soup came with bacon sprinkled over it. Luckily, I saw it because of a slightly larger piece of bacon. If everything had been equally finely chopped I probably would have thought it was something else and eaten.
Would also loved if the breakfast was included in the price and if the showers had a nozzle you could lift down so you don't get water in your hair.

Yes, they always hold luggage
i’m sorry i really don’t recall, but I think we had an opening window.
Thank you for asking, Robyn! Unfortunately, due to City and State regulations, our Commoner restaurant and rooftop Bergapten are the only two areas in the hotel that pets are not allowed. The only exception being if they are service animals.
Thanks so much for the great question!
Opening day for our rooftop Biergarten is April 15th and we kick off the season being open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Reservations are strongly recommended (OpenTable) and please check back often, as hours of operation are sure to change depending upon the weather.
We hope to welcome you soon!
