It’s an interesting concept - a hotel that is virtually serviced. In other words, there are no humans in sight. Imagine that you let yourself in to a funky, thoughtfully renovated and repurposed YMCA in downtown Pittsburgh. You press in your code and enter in a large lobby that’s sleek, kind of interesting, and utterly empty. You take the elevator up to your room, pressing in another code to enter your large, airy room that’s decorated in a mid-century/IKEA style. It’s cool and it’s clean but it seems like a neutron bomb went off and you're the star of your very own Twilight Zone episode. There are just no people to be seen. While it seems that a virtually-serviced space would be cool, the reality is a rather cold, cheerless and kind of creepy vibe. Honestly, I hope that this is not the future of hospitality. I truly hate to crap all over this as someone has spent a lot of time and money setting this up and trying to get it right. However, it’s just not a place I’d like to come to again.

I really enjoyed my short stay at The Maverick Kasa! Whoever decided to take the old YMCA and turn it in to a hotel, had a great vision coupled with brilliant execution. The rooms are unique and tastefully appointed. The building is VERY quiet due in large part to the turn of the century construction. The Maverick is in walking distance to hotels and bars, parking, while not free, is convenient. My only complaint is the drive through Pittsburg, from the West Side, was a nightmare. But, hey, that’s Pittsburgh! The Maverick is a great place, with a high quality, unique experience, at a price that beats the large hotel chains. Book it if you are going to Pittsburgh!

My boyfriend and I came to Pittsburgh specifically to explore the iconic stomping grounds of Mac Miller. The Maverick by Kasa was extremely close to all the locations we wanted to go to. Prior to arrival, the owner was in frequent contact with me. They sent many emails and messages with details regarding the booking. I found this very helpful as I was a bit worried about having self check in. Check in went as smooth as can be. When we got to our room, we were greeted with drinks, a snack and 2 complimentary tokens to the bar on the first floor (which was soooo cute). Our stay was absolutely perfect. It felt like living in my own little apartment for the 5 days we spent there. The room was extremely clean, literally not a speck of dust. The only downfall of the property is that there isn’t free parking. However, there is lots of parking available for a cheap price. I would definitely recommend this property.
