The Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel garners praise for its spacious rooms with impressive views and comfort, despite some guests suggesting updates are needed. With its prime location near various attractions, the hotel's setting is often lauded for its classic elegance and modern touches. While the service, particularly the front desk and valet, receives commendations for its friendliness, some travelers have noted slower breakfast service. Reviews are mixed regarding value, with some pointing out the additional costs for breakfast and parking, yet cleanliness remains a strong point, with many guests appreciating the well-kept premises.

Started off great with a wonderful check in experience with Rosemary. Great room (922), fantastic location, and maybe a good breakfast. We were there 2 nights. On Saturday morning we had a terrific breakfast experience (great food and service) with Rosemary as our server; on Sunday not such a good experience. It took over 35 minutes to get our food and although the Denver omelette was good but the biscuits and gravy that I ordered the day before that were so good were not so good and were like they came from a different restaurant. Also unlike Friday and Saturday morning (all day), we had no hot water on Sunday morning. It’s unfortunate but with this hotels location and the attitude of most of the staff this place could be great but they need to be more consistent.

Can a hotel be historic, luxurious, and friendly at the same time? From our wedding night to a "milestone" birthday celebration in February, the experience at this hotel is something special. The people, from the front desk to room service, are top notch. For us, its the best place to stay in Pittsburgh.

When we go to Pittsburgh to visit family, we often stay at the Renaissance downtown because we love its location in the Cultural District near many restaurants, the lovely river view, and the large rooms. (We are Marriott Titanium members, so always use points to book and always get an upgraded room). It is an “old style” historic hotel in the former Fulton Building, with a gorgeous lobby. We’ve always had a very large room with a comfortable bed, and, as native Pittsburghers, we love the lampshades imprinted with Pittsburghese. The bathrooms are not the most modern— only partially renovated, but still have an old bathtub with old shower & shower curtain. As we are older now, we always prefer a walk-in shower for safety and look forward to the day when the Renaissance will finally update its showers. Nevertheless, we have always loved this hotel for the location and its “Old Pittsburgh” vibes. The front desk staff and valets have always been very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Although we’ve stayed here many times, we’ve never eaten in the restaurant as we always prefer to go out to our favorite restaurants or try new ones. It is a superb location for anyone visiting Pittsburgh for a convention (Convention Center is right up the street), a cultural event (hotel is surrounded by theaters and concert halls), a sports event (stadiums are a short walk across the bridge) or just to discover everything downtown Pittsburgh has to offer. You can walk to the Heinz historical center and the fabulous Strip District. If you prefer a super modern cookie-cutter hotel, this hotel is not for you. But if you are the type who prefers a lovely historic building with some local color in the decor, we recommend the Renaissance. It is worth it to pay extra for a river view room!

We stayed the first weekend in December to attend a wedding. Although this is an older hotel, it is a classic! It is centrally situated within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The Christmas market was just a few blocks away and quite quaint. The wedding reception was nice although some of the staff seemed grumpy? Maybe they aren’t paid well? The food at the wedding was surprisingly good, which is usually hard especially when the entrees were filet and salmon! Both were cooked perfectly! We especially have to give a shout out to Eddie, the valet who saved us! We ordered an Uber to take us to the wedding ceremony at a church that was 15 minutes away from the hotel and due to a crane being pulled out nearby our Uber cancelled and we couldn’t find another Uber in time. Eddie noticed our dilemma and offered to drive us! He got us to the church on time!! Thanks so Very Much Eddie! With a little modern improvements this hotel will be a destination!

Great location but nothing for Europeans. Our room 708 was spacious but desperately need of refurbishment. Cheap furniture and curtains. No slippers, no bathrobes and house keeping who didn’t replace towels. We had dinner in the restaurant. The food was ok and the waiter was a darling. But the recycling paper table cloths were ugly.

We had a wonderful stay for viewing Christmas lights downtown. When we checked out, we accidentally left an item behind in the room. I contacted the hotel and spoke with Erica to try to resolve my situation. She was able to locate the item and even shipped it to my home at NO COST! Erica was so helpful in returning our lost item and our entire experience was great!

Good location, nice lobby and a comfy bed. That’s where it stopped. The property is in need of some investment, it’s old and tired looking. No room service for a four star hotel, breakfast service was slow, amenities pretty basic. Its was fine for a quick overnight stay, but it’s a long way short of a four star property. Wouldn’t recommend for anything longer or couples/families.

First visit here as part of an event, and the decor is worth a trip. Very nice folks on staff all around. The meal was mediocre, but it was still a nice visit. Very strange that the closest bathroom is on the 2nd floor!

We drove 10 hours to The Renaissance Hotel. We arrived around 6:39pm 10/22. Hubby ran in to find valet & there was No valet!! We had to unload everything ourselves, it was freezing & windy. The front desk girl brought a luggage cart out for our luggage but didn't offer any comp!! After bringing our 2 Carts of luggage up to our room we were very disappointed! The ice machine on our floor is broken and we do not get a microwave with our room. We decided since we're so tired to go down & have a late dinner at 7:30pm. NOPE, restaurant is closed today! We were told they serve food in bar so we went there. A table opened so we seated ourselves! We waited as the 2 bar tenders served 3 different people that came in after us!! I was beginning to wonder if we were invisible! We were trying to be patient as we were exhausted as I continued to try to flag one of the bar tenders! Finally as he went to see if another table would like anything else I said.......excuse me.....can we please get some service? He was friendly & from there took care of us although we were concerned of the issues so far! After eating we went to our room & fell fast asleep! I noticed the next morning the room seemed worn & dirty! It was our son's 40th birthday & I hadn't seen him in 3 yrs so we tried to make the best of it! We were gone all day until very late as we had wonderful reservations at Altius Restaurant! We came back to a dirty room!!!! They never cleaned our room! We requested fresh towels for the morning & explained I wanted the room cleaned b4 we returned. The next day we spent it with our son again which is why we are here! We stopped back in for something & room still not cleaned. I called & explained our room had not been cleaned day before & I would like it cleaned. The Women said, hang on & let me see if it's on the schedule to be cleaned. I kindly said, since it hadn't been cleaned yesterday, our garbage is over flowing & I want it cleaned today. We arrived back tonight and room has been cleaned up but as you can see from pictures, not very well! On our way down here we stay at nice hotels that were cheaper per night and very clean! I'm VERY disappointed at this price point that we are dealing with these issues! They didn't even offer any type of comp for the inconvenience the 1st night or when our room had never been cleaned.
