I was attending a 60th high school reunion and staying the night before and the night after the event. The setting is a cluster of buildings on what must have been a farm. It reminded me of a small college campus. Most of the buildings were ancient with date stones like 1735 and 1820 but all nicely modernized inside. It was a very comfortable and relaxing environment popular as a wedding venue. Our event was in the John Roberts house and we had a nice buffet lunch and had the building for the rest of the day in which to socialize. Our room was very comfortable with 2 exceptions. It was on the second floor up some very narrow and steep steps and the A/C was adequate but marginal. We preferred it colder than it could achieve. The buffet breakfast on the weekends was good but not exceptional. Outdoor seating at the restaurant was very comfortable on a warm summer night.

This is a collection of historic buildings (mid 18th century) updated with new but historically compatible additions. It is a wonderful escape from the unpleasantness of suburban Philadelphia. The grounds are stunningly beautiful. There is a fine restaurant and pub with indoor and outdoor seating options (reviewed separately by me and it is great!) Rooms are very commodious. Ours had a very nice bath area where there was a large shower stall, sink and wash counter and the other necessity! In the main bedroom there is a tub with jets. WiFi and a flat screened TV is provided. I think there should be a bedside table on both sides of the bed. And I do understand the staffing problems and I have stayed at other places that have them but they tell you there will be no linen/towel changes. Most do tell you that you can ask for this. But there was no such notice here. We managed of course. Perhaps this is the "new normal"? Complimentary breakfast was SPLENDID! Wonderful lay out - beautiful fruit, pastries, scones, eggs, bacon, waffles - All served on the patio outside the restaurant or wherever you choose to take it..

My husband and I were enticed by the Inn's Mid Week Special and booked a 2-night stay in a regular king room. Our room was in the Thomas Wilson House, 2nd floor. The room was spacious and immaculate. Bed was very comfortable. Only negative I would add was that there was not a vanity in the bathroom (I did like the separate thermostat for bathroom heat) and the fact that the light filtering shades in the main bedroom did not extend to the bottom of the windowsill but stopped about 6" short. I would add said windows are rather large and afford a great deal of natural sunlight. Although we knew other guests shared the house it was very quiet. The package offered a dinner credit at the Pub which we enjoyed very much. The Inn grounds are spacious and offer quite a few separate buildings for guest quarters. A wedding here would be spectacular, indoors or out! The Inn is close to The Mercer and Fairmont Castle which we enjoyed. Looking forward to returning soon ( package or not!)

This was our third visit to the Inn, but our first stay in this area of the Inn (Conrad Room 108) We have previously stayed in the Allman suite and the Thomas Moore Section. The Inn itself is lovely and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Great place for couples and peaceful. Keep in mind this is historic so if your offended by imperfections in the paint, or cracks in ceilings this isn’t necessarily the location for you. (The Conrad room seems more dated than the room we stayed at in the other building). I personally don’t mind the cosmetics as it adds to the charm. However, despite this we did some encounter negatives during our stay. First upon entering our room the smell of mildew and/or mold was overwhelming. I noticed others have had this issue with this particular room based on reviews. The smell was so overwhelming that I had to spray lysol. Cleanliness was also an issue and we made the decision to wipe down the bathroom and high touch point areas ourselves. Upon arrival home all our clothes smelled like mildew just from being in the room. In addition there was literally spiders all over the room. The toiletries left in the room hadn’t moved in so long a spider took up residence and I even found a spider in the fridge. In every corner there were webs, webs above the bed, and spiders. Even behind the headboard because I felt the need to check because I didn’t want things crawling on me at night. This just led me to discover inches of dust on the floor and more spiders. We enjoy coming to this Inn but I was just surprised at the lack of cleanliness on this visit and if the room was cleaned/prepped properly before our arrival I am terribly surprised the smell wasn’t noticed by housekeeping and perhaps a fan or dehumidifier run. Next time I will most certainly speak to the front desk and request a new room if conditions aren’t up to the standards we’ve already encountered at the Inn instead of sticking it out. We will probably be back but I’d recommend avoiding this particular room especially if you have allergies.

Thank you so much for your review. Given the rain deluges of late, your room may have had a musty odor and we apologize for that. As far as the cleanliness, there is no excuse and we have addressed all issues with the housekeeping staff. We would have been more than happy to upgrade you to one of our beautiful suites if you alerted us to these encounters. We value you and hope you will be visiting us soon. I can assure you the experience will be more suitable. All the best during these trying times. David Arena-Hotel Manager

Room 502 location and cleanliness upon entering was very good. The rug had stains all over it or it needed a good cleaning. Furniture showing a lot of stains and beat up a bit. Saggy coach and when I picked up one of the cushions to raise the height of seating area it was full of food crumbs etc. Everything worked properly and I enjoyed the bubble tub twice. I was there for four nights and was not resupplied with amenities unless I specifically asked or went to registration to get coffee for the next day. To go breakfast only' which was pastry, yogurt, apples, and instant oatmeal. I thought a Bed and Breakfast provided breakfast. For some reason the air conditioning made the room exceptionally cold. Even though upper 80's outside way too cold. Turned off the AC for 2 days before I stopped wearing a jacket. I also missed access to a microwave at least in a common guest area since I understand that the fire insurance would be exorbitant in those renovated old homes. They must be used to short stays there.

We stayed for one night and it was extremely disappointing. The customer service at this property is completely lacking! We interacted with front desk staff on two occasions and both times they came across as clearly not caring about the customer experience! Our room was #111 and it was on the first floor of a cottage. The room wasn’t very clean, the TV was analog and didn’t work well, the heating unit sounded like a wind tunnel when running and we slept horribly because the person above us was walking around/making noise until late at night and then got up at 5AM. Breakfast was a joke - it consisted of a cup of instant oatmeal and a pre packaged pastry. When checking out, I tried to share this feedback with the woman at the front desk but she didn’t care at all - not even an apology. I am posting this review with hopes that management reads these and actually takes some action to improve things.

Reservations made via phone. On arrival we were assigned to Thomas Wilson House, which was built in 1853. Our room was on the second floor-be aware that the stairs are steep. We actually saw this house moved up Horsham Road in 1997. Receptionist told us that breakfast would be "grab and go", but breakfast sandwiches advertised. When we arrived to pick up breakfast the next morning, there were no hot breakfast sandwiches, but store-bought pastry (from BJ's) wrapped in plastic. Coffee and juice available. Very disappointed. I know this is the time of COVID and no housekeeping entered the room but give guests extra towels then. Had to go to front desk and asked for extra towels on third morning. We had difficulty controlling the heat. Actually, on first night we could not get any heat and shivered during the night. We reported to front desk and fixed the next day. The next night we had trouble regulating the heat again-now hoping for a slight breeze and cooling.

Went to JAI for our 55th anniversary. First the pluses - the grounds and facilities are beautiful. We have been there a number of times over the years and this is the first time we’ve eaten outside. It was refreshing as our retirement community offer few opportunities for eating in the open air. We felt very safe in this covid situation in which we find ourselves, especially since the weather cooperated.
So much for the pluses. We started our meal with our usual drink, a Manhatten. It was filled to the brim with ice and very little bourbon. I would suggest your mixologist travel up the road to Millers Ale House for a lesson. Twice the liquor for a third less price.
Bread offered with the meal was excellent – fresh and crispy. We followed that with the chowder which was hot and very flavorful – certainly the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, our entrees were delivered before finishing our chowder. We rushed through the chowder so we could enjoy the rest of our meal.
My wife had the salmon which was very good. The vegetables mixed in the lo mein were tasty but the sauce was very salty, to the point that they were not eaten. I tried them and had to agree with her. I like Asain cuisine and realize the sauce can be salty but this was excessive.
We usually do not order dessert as an attempt to watch our weight but thought the choice of ice cream was less than inspired – vanilla and chocolate. I would have thought something a little more original would be offered. Of course, we may have been pleasantly surprised. Just an observation.
Finally, we felt we were rushed in our dinner. We had a 6:30 reservation and were walking to our car at 7:15. :45 minutes for a meal that we felt was to commemorate a milestone in our life was a disappointment. JAI had no way of knowing our occasion for dining but that should be irrelevant.

I have stayed twice here, each time in a different cottage but with the same experience. I was on a writing retreat looking to hole myself up with no distractions, so if you are there for a wedding you'll probably have a better time.

The pros: The rooms are lovely, comfortable and unique. Showers are clean and modern. I love the little nooks in each guest house- lots of living room areas to lounge in or work in a comfy chair. The staff couldn't be better- from the front desk to the bartender, everyone was lovely.

The cons: Noise. The first room I was in was over the restaurant, so the diners, the piano player, the service was all heard clearly and loudly. The second time I stayed in the Roberts house over the meeting space where cocktail hours were also heard loudly and constantly. In both rooms, the walls are very thin and I could hear the television in the next room, the conversations, the sneezes... Also the fitness room is from the 1970s. A Universal that is respectable, and one treadmill that barely got up to a trot. Luckily there's a Planet Fitness and LA Fitness 5 minutes away, and the Inn is next to a great running trail that runs along Rt 202.

I am so sorry that you encountered some disturbances during your stays with us. We do have some events happening in the houses during regular business hours. I have a nice solution for you and hope you will give us another chance. We have the Thomas Wilson house which is situated across the grounds and is completely separated from the rest of the hotel. It is VERY quiet and there are never any events happening in the common areas. Oh and thank you for the comments about our fitness facility. It is now going under a transformation to update the equipment. Without constructive criticism we cannot strive to give the best customer experience. All the best and see you soon!

We went there for a wedding, rustic village type environment / setup with few downsides.
Room was clean, the bed firm and the mechanicals while not perfect, were better than most midrange hotels. Friendly and helpful staff. No elevators and our bldg. had three levels. Montgomery Mall is within a mile, with every store you can imagine. Weekday breakfast at the hotel is weak at best; they call it "grab and go" - muffins, yogurt, OJ, and microwave breakfast sandwiches. (They tasted to be a bit too long in the freezer?) They also have a limited selection of Keurig coffee cups. (No Starbucks or dark roast)
Weekend breakfast was MUCH better. Hot omelets, etc.
I considered this place may be a good launching point for folks wanting to visit Philly? I was told there was a train nearby that takes you downtown. We had not planned for it.....so maybe another trip?
Bringing your Luggage in from the parking lot along with no elevators can be a challenge for some older guests. Call the hotel before booking.

I registered on Traillink and found a very nice map of the Trail. Traillink has a lot of good material to help you plan your trip. It also has nice reviews of the trail. Our parking lot has a wide path to the trail. I googled "202 parkway pedestrian path map"
