I never write reviews, but had such a nice time at Chestnut Grove, that I felt compelled to write one. The resort has gorgeous views, great food for breakfast and dinner included, and activities for kids and adults alike. Really enjoyed my time there and will be going back.

What a GREAT week we had! Angel and Jerry continue to work really hard to improve this Wonderful Family Getaway. The new tile floors, painted cabins and scoreboards are just a few of the improvements. As always Kathleen and the entire staff are friendly and so helpful. Kevin organizes a ton of activities that you can decide to join. Anyway you choose to spend your day it’s fun and relaxing. Jerry, Angel and their staff provide something unique .... kindness! They understand what it takes to be a Great Host!

You can be busy all day or do nothing, and still be equally satisfied! I caught 106 Fish (Large Mouth Bass) Love The Place! Hope it continues to flourish!!! I’d recommend to all

This was our 9th year visiting Chestnut Grove Family Resort (CGR). My family had a great time participating in some of the planned activities (and winning a couple), swimming, hot tub, ping pong, and getting to know some of the other families, and relaxing. As usual, there are always new improvements that are listed below: 1. Cabins were painted on the outside. 2. Cushions on the outdoor pool lounge chairs. 3. Several new covered shade areas in the outdoor pool area. 4. New magnetic score poles by many games (bocci, horseshoes, shuffleboard, ladderball, corn hole etc.) making it easier to keep score and hold the equipment. 5. New tile floors are replacing the carpeting in the cabins; this is ongoing. 6. Rebuilt the bridge between the lake and the island. 7. Rebuilt dock by the lake. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment which consisted of DJ Gregg, a magic show, a comedian, and live bands. There is also nightly bingo, a campfire and hayride, and a couple of movies "under the stars" for kids. In addition, there is a full playground for children. If you are looking for gourmet food cooked by a Michelin Star Chef, this is not the place. The food is decent and, of course, there is always room for improvement. Dinners include a salad bar, soup, soft drinks, and dessert. My favorite dinner was Chicken Parmesan. The chicken was very tender and the sauce was flavorful. The best part of vacationing at CGR is that you can decide how you want spend your time. You can participate in activities, just watch, or do your own thing. There are also lots of attractions in the area appropriate for day trips such as a water park, casino, outlet shopping, horseback and pony rides, roller skating, and more. My family is already booked for next year and look forward to the new improvements and spending another fun relaxing week at CGR.

We have had a couple of family reunions here.... The biggest positive is the autonomy/independence the kids have and they love it... they are out the door and swimming, playing volleyball, ping pong, or nighttime games like “ghost in the graveyard”.... it really is a great place to bond and the entertainment is pretty fun at the bar)... they usually have a activity director who organizes activities (he wasn’t there this time but still usually is). Also, the owner is working on updating the cabins/rooms... which is a plus since they were really in poor condition (I would suggest priming/painting the dark paneling white so it isn’t so dark in the rooms). The game room was a bust for the kids since they took out a few games from last time (didn’t replace) and a couple of others were out of order... there was also a game called “candy crane” that the kids liked but the candy was really stale and melted... The HUGE problem is the food... we complained last time and the owner Jerry (who had just bought the place) said he was going to focus his efforts to get better... but didn’t... even the kid’s meals tasted bad... you can tell they are buying cheap food (hamburgers/hotdogs) and it makes a middle school cafeteria look like a gourmet restaurant... it is awful with no effort at all... with no plans to change. I brought a little weber grill and cooked burgers and hot dogs a lot... you can also get frozen pizza at the bar... breakfasts aren’t as bas as the dinners but they seem to be getting worse rather than better... and the cereal was stale (like it was the first time)... the whole food situation is a shame because we would like to continue to come here but some of my extended family refuses because of this... If they would just buy decent food and stop trying to be so ambitious with their selections and learn how to make 12 dinner meals (2 choices a night)... it should be on the top of their priority list but it’s not... Im sure this would be the number one reason why people don’t return... so frustrating because we could overlook other shortcomings but they make it hard with the meals... I mean... C’mon, you’re on vacation, you want to enjoy yourself..
